You definitely need to weigh the cost to profit ratio. Ebay just raised their fees and shipping cost have also gone up globally. If someone pays you by PayPal then they will also take a cut. So make sure that once you decide to sell something that you come out in the black once all the fees have been taken away....but for starters I would say get a PayPal account and get verified. Most buyers feel more secure if PayPal is involved. I personally hate PP but they're a necessary evil if you wish to do business on Ebay. Although I have pretty much stopped selling on Ebay I was a Silver power seller for a number of years so if you have anymore questions just post away and I will answer what I can....D

Well the first tip i'll give you is this. Become a trusted seller in the comic community by having very descipt auctions and include a scan of the front and back. If you are selling a lot of comics then try to best describe them all but pictures are not necessary as the price for all the photos will kill your profit. But if its 1 comic, make sure the potential buyers can see everything there is to know about it. What scares most buyers is the "hidden" defects that are not in the pictures. I have bought countless comics that only showed the front of the comic and purchased it based on that only to receive a comic with a bunch of stains on the back. Eventually your feedback will show that you are up front about what you sell and you will get many bidders. You rep is very important so do anything you can to make sure it isn't tarnished.

Dropping your pants will not get you comics.

What I do is make sure that I have cardboard, not the white backing boards but actual cardboard to sandwich the comic in and a DO NOT BEND written on the outside.  I've had a few comics destroyed because the seller failed to make sure it was packaged right and the mailman folded the package to squeeze it into my mailbox.

Here is an example of how I post my auctions:

Up for auction is Captain America #16 Vol. 5.  This series is hot right now so bid before the prices increase.  It is in Very Fine condition with minor wear along the spine.  The scan is of the comic you will be receiving.

I accept only paypal and will mail the comic as soon as payment is made.  It will be shipped bagged/boarded and in-between cardboard to ensure no damage during shipment, plus a DO NOT BEND written on the outside of the package.  I combine shipping.

good tips everybody. there are some things in there that i had not thought about. I am already registered with paypal so thats a plus.
Do you usually sell with no reserve?
Do you do a buy it now?
I have noticed that the auctions with higher starting bids or that have reserves are usually not met. I just dont like that i might not get at least what i paid for the books or have to sell them well below the price guide. I know i have gotten plenty of books for next to nothing. Those are some concerns i have. Thanks again.

I rarely use reserves...the fee costs to much...i just start the book at the minimum I'm willing to take and let it go from there...better than starting a book at .99 hoping a bidding war will happen only to sell you book for .99. On eh flip side if you know it's a hot book and folks are paying premiums for it than you can usually start it low and not have to worry.

I offer BIN because some people don't want to wait for an auction to end or they don't want to get into a bidding war...you have to remember though as soon as someone places one bid the BIN goes away unless you set a reserve....D

I've had that happen to me a few times and kicked myself for it, dont use a low starting price unless you're OK with letting it go for that much.
