Last night I entered my entire X-Men collection into the CPG database.  I was able to select all of the X-Men comics I own in a matter of minutes.  Great.  I was able to go to the Change Condition screen and update the condition of all of them in just a few minutes too.  Again great.  Then, I spent the next 3 hours adjusting quantities because I have so many duplicate issues and I was forced to edit them one by one via the Update Issue screen.  ARRRGH!

How about this for an idea?  Why not simply copy the source code from the Change Conditions screen into a new "Change Quantities" screen. Replace the grades currently in the drop down list with the numbers 1-25 and save the results to the quantity field instead of the condition field in the database.  Finally, add a link just under the Change Conditions link called Change Quantities. With this simple and easy to implement fix, people with lots of duplicate issues would be able to update their quantities in a fraction of the time currently required and this problem would be largely solved.

I have yet to see any responses from CPG regarding suggestions that have been offered pertaining to interface issues. So I am asking again... would whoever the website guru is at CPG please consider making this minor fix and let me know if you can/will do it soon?

Thanks!

Mark

Mark, you are going to have to have patience as this is not anybody's sole source of employment. Bryan (BNeeley) is always working on things, but he does not really update the general populace (us) with things until he actually gets around to putting them into affect. Many of us have faced frustration in the past, and though he rarely speaks, the all-knowing, all-seeing Mr. B. reads a lot, works a lot and surprizes us a lot. Please do not feel ignored, he will do his best.

Where does he get those wonderful toys!

I have yet begun to surrender.

May not be as minor as it seems or as easy as copying code and changing one or two field names. Sometimes when dealing with complex relational databases, what seems like a simple change may cause issues in other areas. If it something that can be easily applied I'm sure they will take it into consideration.

I am sure Bryan has seen these threads, like Joker said.

He always has several projects he is working on around here, and sometimes they do take time.  I have brought up ideas several times in the past, and I can only recall one being implemented quickly (I suggested that the quantity of an issue shows in that blue box in the title screens).

And I will also add that I have suggested similar changes to the 'change condition' option so that you can adjust multiple fields.  And as you can see, that hasn't been implemented.

I know that Bryan is doing what he can........

I guess that Bryan is the man I was trying to reach and I hope I haven't made him mad! I understand people being busy and I didn't mean to sound too pushy about the quantity thing. It is, however, nice to know that I am at least being heard.

I just feel that the difficult way that quantity changes must be entered should be considerred a major bug because it greatly diminishes the usablilty of the website (at least for me). If you guys tried changing the quantities on about 30 issues you will see what I mean. And I have hundreds if not thousands of multiple issues to deal with.

I am more than willing to help out with the coding if anyone is up for that. I am a .Net developer (with some ASPx experience) and I have been working in the business for over 15 years.  Just to prove that I am sincere about helping out, I am going to post a little program that I threw together tonight in another thread, so check it out if you are interested in dumping your Excel file data into another database.
