Are the prices that these comics are commanding bloated due to the movie or is it the fact that collectors decided to offload them because of the movie and they're hard to find?

Prolly due to the Ironman movie.  Stirs up a lot of new interest.  If the movie tanked I dont think we would be having this discussion, but ironman seems to be a big hit.  Prices will go up, just like it did for spidey.

That is a good question. Even with a wildly popular movie, is it enough to send Iron Man books on a permanent price incline? Only time will tell for sure. I don't think it will have the same success as Spider-man...but who knows? If you wanted to invest in Iron Man books, it's too late now. Should have jumped on that boat a year ago.

From what I have seen the early issues of Iron Man Vol. 1 have been rising for the last 2 years, was that because of the hype of the movie or simply because of the comic itself? Who knows. The early issues of Tales of Suspense have not risen at the same rate that those other issues have, outside of #39.

I believe that Civil War played a part in these early increases...Iron Man became a main player and Marvel put his face everywhere (and in every book) after that. With the hype of Captain America dying, people wanted to see how it happened and what led up to his demise...again Iron Man was all over that as well. Now that the Iron Man movie has brought in an opening of $110 million (tenth highest opening ever) and tentative plans for IM2 in 2010 and Avengers in 2011...I would think those elevated prices are now probably the norm.

Key issues are the ones that rise. People really only care about key issues. I don't think there are many people who are actually trying to complete runs of titles. TOS #39, 50 and 52 are on the rise because they are keys. Other titles are the same way. ASM #53 didn't skyrocket in price more than any other non-key issues in the run. The keys are the ones that rise. Iron Man #1 has done well, but that isn't even a good book. I bet a lot of people who bought that book out of Iron Man hype were VERY disappointed....because that is a pretty crappy book.
