The 1948-1953 Fawcett run was a touch before my time...Though I have seen several issues from that run...:D

Paragon/AmeriComics also reprinted several issues in the late 1980s...;)

Ya the length of the right edge is really the only thing that looks that bad with the foxing(?).. The rest of the front and back cover looks really good. I was really happy with the price I got it for. Makes me want to collect more four color books.

Yes, the Cover art looks great!!!! Is it the right edge that keeps its from grading higher because on my screen it looks fantastic!!! The corners look very sharp and the spine looks pretty clean too. Nice book!!! I didn't see that one up or I might have bid against ya!!!! :hehe:

We are all showing are age admitting we've seen the tv show. I enjoyed the show but I wonder if I saw an episode now would I find it entertaining like I did as a kid.

The Popeye as with some of my buys I just buy because I like the cover art. No real rhyme or reason except I dig the cover.

I am waiting on a four color to come in the mail that you should like the cover to, at least it leaves a smile on my face. Should be here in a week or so.

I was watching that Pogo Parade auction, but bid on some House of Mystery instead. - $27.55 (+ S&H) - it should have gone for $60ish...

That is odd, 'cause Marvel was doing Conan at the time. Conan & Tarzan were popular mostly because of the Frazetta covers on the paperbacks. There must be a story behind why Marvel didn't get such an obvious property.

I've got all the DC (& Marvel) Tarzan, Korak & John Carter comics, and all the Gold Key Koraks (and a couple samples of the really old stuff)... Only have about 40-50 of the Dell/Gold Key Tarzans, nothing lower than #24.

Anyhow, a complete Dell/GK Tarzan set would be an impressive feat (not compared to a Looney Tunes run). Go check ebay, lots of issues are "missing"... if you had enough $$$, today you could buy a complete run of FF or ASM or etc...[/quote]

Which is kind of an anomoly when talking about Dell comics...:hmmmm:...Their print runs were huge...but their type of material was so often aimed at the younger readers resulting in few copies surviving in high graces...;)

Yeah, I try to be patient and wait for nice copies so I don't end up with a pile of comics from upgrades. I hate paying more money for a comic I already own. I am however, upgrading a few of my Looney Tunes.

Keep us posted on your Tarzan run. I'm curious to see how long it takes you to complete it from now. How many issues did that title run for?

Under 20 issues to go...grades run from VG to NM with the majority in F/VF catagory...

I don't touch anything above #15 in anything less than F in the Dells...and nothing less than VF in the GK's...for issues under #15 I buy almost any condition anytime it's available...:hmmmm:

Have a couple of dozen duplicates that came from replacing old "subscription crease" issues mostly...

In the GK's any dupes I have are original-owned copies that I bought off the rack and read to death...:blush:

That's quite a collection in itself to be almost complete. How far away are you? Almost could mean.....30 issues.....or 5 issues :) How picky have you been being on condition? Don't tell me your have all VF or higher on them??? ;)

Dell #68 and GK # 135, 153, 165, and 198...all VF+ or better...:cool:

Great looking books Shadow!!!! I've never started on Walt Disney's Comics and Stories....but it probably the next one to add to my list once my list gets smaller. I still have about 3 pages of stuff I'm after right now.

Pogo Possum is awesome I tried to buy a whole sest last year for $700.00 all in great shape. but passed and bought another set of something else I regret it because I don't think I will find a another deal at that price.

The Pogo Special Birthday Special was a Chuck Jones production...which even featured the voices of Walt Kelly and Chuck Jones as characters...and was on TV in May of 1969...

Pogo For President (I Go Pogo) was released in August of 1980...though my Walt Disney Home Video edition is copywritten 1979...:hmmmm:

It was written and directed by Marc Paul Chinoy...who I don't think went far after that...but it did feature the voices of Jonathan winters, Vincent Price, Ruth Buzzi, Stan Freberg, Bob Kaliban, Arnold Stang, and others...:D

"Pogo for President" was released in theaters as "I Go Pogo". There's a Viewmaster set. I have a Photohut(?) issue VHS

And there was a Chuck Jones cartoon in '68. (The Pogo Special Birthday Special)

The newspaper reprint books are better than the Dell comics, both have my highest recommendation.

I got hooked on Pogo through the Sunday funnies and a fanzine that the Kelly family used to put out...Managed to score most of the paperbacks in first editions over the years...including a hardcover edition of the hard to find "Glob"...:D

I also still have the original VHS video of "Pogo For President" claymation TV sspecial from many years ago...

The next goal is a Sunday strip original...:Wow:
