I hafta agree with Argie on this. We do need a link back to the main site, and to be honest the boards look a little plain as is. A little clutter is not a bad thing.

I found this on another board and may help some of you...

Your cookies.sqlite is probably corrupt. Close Firefox and go to your profile (http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Profiles#How_to_find_your_profile). Rename the cookies.sqlite extension to something else, i.e. cookies.tmp. Load Fx and try logging into the site again etc, restart and see if it remembers. If it does, cookies.sqlite was corrupt and you can delete the old one which you renamed.

Bryan, feedback on the stripped down forum header....

I like the clutter being gone...but, could we get a link to the database again?

Oh, and when I first noticed the change I assumed you were thinking of a new approach to the log out problem...

I assume the pages coming fresh off the server instead of the browser cache hasn't solved the problem?

I was all set up until today when I was randomly logged out. I cleared my cache and all my cookies so we will see how it goes.

I was logged out again. I tried to hit log in numerous times and it wouldn't do anything. I had to go into a thread and try to add in a reply to bring up the sign in page.

I loved the old software but the new one has grown on me as the months have passed. I know if Bryan switches software again I won't bother posting here anymore. If you want to chat I guess it's not much of a problem but when I am trying to build information archive type threads it's just not worth it if we switch forums again.

To be honest, they should dump these forums. I think Brian needs to advance on with the times. People were not so thrilled when these were introduced and have been bugged since the start. Consider this a failed experiment and go with a new forum software.

I think the reason why this problem hasn't been fixed is because they don't KNOW exactly why this is happening.

I'm wondering if it's the server not the software of the forum because like I've mentioned before I was having this problem on the old CPG boards as well.

It's terrribly frustrating problem that needs to be fixed but how? I dunno. My idea didn't work sadly :( Well only for a while.

Or at least TRY to respond - and it isn't fixed yet. BTW - this is the first time I have responded (and I had to RE-log on, after logging on once already when I first entered the site, admins can check) since I said so, and will go back into the ether for a while, but I really had to respond to this:

Ok I was logged out when I came here today, did not log out yesterday when I left. On the third page of "posts since my last visit" I got this huge distaff error (which has been logged thank you very much) and when I go to reply to this thread, I have to log in all over again. So 4 weeks no problem, what the fersnizzle did you intelligent design specialists do between yesterday and today? And please don't say nothing.

Now here is an interesting observation, I can move around the main site extremely quickly until I log in, then it slows down to a crawl. Sometimes new pages don't even load, the listings are blank but all the rest of the page loads. If I refresh I get logged out. New problems, same old site.

I kept getting logged out too until I went into the tools>options of FF and deleted all the cookies pertaining to cpg, and then voila...here I am! For how long? Who knows?

Well I haven't added any programs since the last time I was using the database on a daily basis (with no issues) so I haven't a clue. It's just weird how it was constantly logging me out, than was fine for over a day with me using the database all throughout the day and night, than to have it go back to logging me out almost every other book on average I input.

Just so you understand how maddening this is on this end...

I log into the site from three different computers...

One at home running Win95 and using IE...with McAffee
One from my work office running WinXP and IE...with Norton 360
One from my comic office running WinXP and running FireFox...with Norton

And I've even logged on from the new workstation at work running Vista and IE...

At no time or with any system do I have a problem with the site "loosing" me...
I stay logged in all day...usually days at a time...or until I log out...

The only time I have to re-log is when I jump around in the database from the backside...at which time My Administrator log-in will "occasionally" conflict and log me out from the public side...

We've even tried duplicating it from this side...loggin in as the person having problems and trying different things...NADA! :w00t:

It doesn't appear to be happening to alot of people...it just seems to be consistant for some people. We thought we had it pinned down when set_one was having the problem...but her solution seems to only work consitently for her system...

It's obviously a conflict somewhere...but when you start looking at the possible variables between even a few people and their systems...it creates quite a challenge...;)

We just need to keep looking at everything and see if we can come up with a common factor...:cool:
