Anyways, I believe I posted this after being away from the site for awhile and visiting the grading and comic values and seeing the quality of books and topics take a nose dive from what I remember in the old forum. First and Foremost I love to read the comics, but the value associated with the things is whats kept me 'collecting' them for a while now. I remember grading some really key books in the grading sections way back when and am now reduced to grading inferior stuff. Not that I care what people want help grading, if its not interesting I'll just pass it by... now where can I request changing my name to FsUkCuKll?

RE: a way to improve site by erasing topics
Sherlock_Holmes206 (6/12/2008)
Monthly shipping will always pretty much leave me in that same position.
Right there with ya. I think there is a bit of a lack of good discussion of current comics and storylines at times but this place still feels like home. There have been people who started out that noobish and then later became good posters so I wouldn't want to scare them away if we're trying to grow the board.

You do have to wonder though how people can't figure out the search functions on the front page!
The fact that so many of the members here gave up on or will be giving up on current books is one of the main reasons there is so few discussions. There are really not that many members here when you think about it that post on a regular basis and if a great percentage of them don't even buy new books it leaves discussions to the same small core group of people.

I myself collect a ton of moderns but am so behind on my reading that even if I finally get to a certain book the discussion is long past by than. It's somewhat frustrating to me still to see a comic board where so many people bash COMICS. Even if you read a bad run and dropped a title that doesn't necessarily mean that book is bad forever and not worth picking up. Unfortunately most people drop a book or books and don't even bother checking up on what's going on with it later to see if it has improved in THEIR mind (as other people may have always enjoyed it to some degree).

RE: a way to improve site by erasing topics

I really don't find noob posts bothering me or believe that people are leaving the boards because of them. That's just one example, I'm not agaisnt noobs, but I don't think the forum should be cluttered by simple questions that should be self explanitory.

RE: a way to improve site by erasing topics

Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it.

RE: a way to improve site by erasing topics

Here's an idea, that may help those who are seriously looking for answers, but might not understand how everyone would like them to go about it.

I know when I first come to the forum page I see the "messages to and from the CPG Administrator" section containing: Rules... then Questions about CPG and then Old forum archives. What about adding a section (put it at the top so that it might grab the attention of those who first discover the forum and title it "FAQ's by new Forum Members...read before posting" Have it include various ideas and thoughts that long time members have gathered through their experiences:

such as:

1. step by step on using the CPG site (I know it's easy, but how many times have you posted "here it is"...I've done it several times and I'm a noob.)
2. when asking about the worth/grade of a comic always post a picture
3. etc....

I'm sure w/ everyone's input, this might prove to be useful.

RE: a way to improve site by erasing topics

Bobost its comments like that that make people the way they are now.who are you to judge them maybe some of these guys need to find out whats really bothering them.look in the mirror or think hard what it really is.No matter how many people hate the cook doesn't make me want them away from whatever they want to talk about.I think they do a great job running this site.everyones got their own story thats what makes it spin.

RE: a way to improve site by erasing topics

It'd be less fun if we couldn't make fun of them though..:P

Besides, the good ones who stay around and take it are usually the people who end up staying and contributing. think of it as initiation.

RE: a way to improve site by erasing topics

What if the thread initiator asks for it to be deleted?

RE: a way to improve site by erasing topics
Shadow (6/9/2008)
Sometimes all it takes is a little mentoring...
Thanks Shadow.

or.....just be like everyone when I was new here and tell me I'm a dolt (an exageration...kinda) for not using search, and then ignore every other question the "noob" might have until he/she either goes away (leading to "top 'dollor'" jokes from now til eternity) or, pain stakingly sticks with it until their coveted post count (not BC or "before change" of course) is high enough for acknowledgement.

an exageration...kinda :P

RE: a way to improve site by erasing topics

Yeah, this one would be a little tough. Thats what the fricking price guide is for. Admins. lets start deleting those crappy topics as a means of quality control, admins should private message a standard copied brief overview of how to search for a title to that individual. Look through the comic values section and see what these lazy new members who will only come to the site once or twice to have someone else actually look up there comics are doing to our site. This is ruining important parts of the site, and making it a FAR less interesting place to visit, and a million notchs below the CGC boards. Havent you noticed long standing members disapearing from the boards or annoucing they are leaving, this policy can only help.
