Michael Turner has always been one of my top 5 favorite artists. He was alwaysw tied for #1 with Alex Ross, for me. I hate to see him go.

Does anyone know if there will be any DC or Marvel M. Turner varient covers that will be released over the next few months? His final works.

ComicCon SF 2006: Sunday evening as the vendors closed, I was chatting with my friends when Michael Turner walked toward the four strangers beside us. He was slim and bald (nothing like the picture found on his Aspen website) but had a smile from ear to ear. I couldn't help eavesdroping into his conversation. "Where to eat?" asked his friend. Michael said something like, 'anywhere you want, I'm open to anything right now. You figure it out and I'll meet you there.' There was a bit more that filled their discussion. Then he turned to clean up his station only to whip back around and with the trip of his tongue said "just make sure I can have a steak!"

It was a moment where, after a long weekend of being "Michael the Artist-here sign my book" he was being "Michael the friend - let's hang." And I couldn't bring myself to interupting this moment for fear of embarrassment. I look back and think how rare it is to catch the artist with his guard down. Not behind the table trying to please his fans but out among us trying to figure out how to spend the evening with friends. Sure a signature would have been more concrete but what a gift to have witnessed Michael as he was with those who he had chosen as friends. And for that memory I thank him along with all the other gifts he has given our community of comic readers and more.

We should count ourselves lucky to have lived at a time and place where we could appreciate such a kind and gifted human being.

I received the news of Michaels passing early Saturday morning and was very saddened by it. I had the pleasure of getting to know him through the years and truely enjoyed every moment. He was a regular at the Pittsburgh Comicon for many years and had been unable to make it the past couple years due to his battle with cancer. He was a generous man who always made time for his fans no matter the amount of pain he was in. It seemed like every night when it was time to close the show we had to all but wrestle with him to get him to finish just one last sketch for a fan so we could lock the doors for the night. He will be missed by all who knew him.

I didn't know. I was walking around at the comicon yesterday when they announced it over the intercom system. Froze me in my tracks....you just dont expect to hear news like that and tragic one as well.

Sad for all of us, his family, friends and all of us in the comic community.

Although I wasn't his biggest fan, I did like his covers. Some of them were awe-inspiring.

This is a big hit to Aspen Comics as well as the comic community. My thoughts/wishes goes out to his family.

I loved Fathom. I got all the back issues not too long ago, the very first volume. man, that was one hell of an artist. Just drew gorgeously.
