Hi, thanks for the responses!

..I have checked the signature and he has used this kind of signature on his early works..

But my main problem is the vividness of the painting ..it is all quite static.

I guess we'll never be sure, but it is a nice painting for a very reasonable price!!

Well...I still think it's an original. :D

1966 would put it just before he moved to New York...

The test would be the style of signature...

My earliest piece is a self-published limited print (450 copies) of the figures for "Sleep"

...the two figures from this piece minus any background or foreground detail...and by this time (1974-5?) he was already using the stylized "J" in a box...

I'd drop a note to Jim Vadeboncoeur, Jr., whom I believe you can contact through Bud Plant Books...;)
Mr. Vadeboncoeur may be able to tell you something about his signature during those years...or find a copy of the Burroughs Bulletin from that era that has a signed illustration...:cool:

Is it possible, however, that there may be another artist named Jeff Jones? Or Jack Jones? Or Joe Jones? Or John Jones? Or Jane Jones? J could stand for a lot, and Jones is pretty common. It's not like we're talking Horatio Finsterwald III here....sorry to rain on the parade, but....

I'd bet it's original. Jeff Jones is far too obscure an illustrator to be worth going through the paces forging him.

the winning bidder just happened to be at the right place at the right time. Excellant score!

The last I heard from people close to Jeff, he had checked himself into an asylum and was convinced he was a woman trapped in a man's body...:w00t:
When I met him in Seattle in 1975 or 76 and bought some prints from him, he seemed manly enough to me...:D

They say the line between genius and insanity is paper thin...;)

My brother has won a Jeff Jones piece on eBay.
He has won it at a very low price and we were wondering if it is a original.

..a while ago I bid on a Frazetta drawing (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEDWX:IT&item=320263119680) which was also very affordable for a Frazetta, but I got several emails that it might be a forgery...

There are rumors that there are enough forgeries on eBay and we were just wondering :)
..any help would be very welcome!
