What I would normally do in a case like this is note it in the comment, perhaps making it a neutral rather than negative (though after the messages from them, you are definitely on the right path here). After all, the book arrived and was as expected, and in a timely manner, and at the price you expected. (That in itself isn't worth negative feedback is it?)

The issue was not with the cost of the S&H - but with the packing. So I'd neutral it, with a comment like "Goods as expected, shipped quickly - but poorly packed and not protected".

Mmm...I think some sellers shipping fees have always been high no matter what. But I think sometimes sellers who ship internationally will take advantage of their buyers...Not saying it happens all the time but it does pop up every so often. I've just bid on auctions where the sellers are like this...I've had many good experiences on eBay to let these two sour my opinion...But I guess because eBays rules have changed moreso it'll change the way i leave feedback...This still doesn't mean I wouldn't have negged the first seller as I would of..They deserved it and still do even if i copped a neg back in return...My score shows you i'm a honest buyer/seller.

Lol, yea...$10shipping is seeming to be bad for me from within Australia or from the usa...Ahhhh nunchucks!! But overal I will take your advice and message the seller beforehand to find out exactly what's what.

Well that's definitely annoying. Given that this is the second time you've payed $10 for shipping, seen that actual costs were much lower, and got upset over it, it might be time to stop bidding on items with $10 S/H charges. Otherwise it's just gonna keep happening, no?

Or else contact the seller before hand and confirm that they'll really be using the 10 bucks to cover expenses.

I understand your points...If I overcharge a buyer on something I will give them a refund especially if it's $5.40 over. As your main price for shipping does include your handling charges...But the $5.40 for handling is a bit over the top...Granted it isn't as bad as last time.

I don't want to 'just neg them' because then it's just being nasty..So it's why I sent them a message explaining my points but all in a nice mannor. I want to try and work things out before using the feedback system...All it might take is for someone to send them a message for them to wisen up their act (then again maybe not).

It's not really a buyers remorse..It's more of 'I'm tired of people hiking up their shipping costs.' and i will say something about it to the seller. And it does get a little sketchy because it's being sent overseas.

I also understand that the buyer does bear some responsiblity when it comes to the final shipping costs but like i stated i thought $10 was alright because i thought it was going to come in one of those prepaid usps flatrate bags...$1 or $2 over their stated price I won't bat an eyelid by $5.40 i do.

I won an auction for $1.70US and within their auctions they state that they combine comics soo I message them telling them I want to place a few more bids but the auctions end in 2 days..Is it alright? They told me that they didn't combine the shipping THOUGH it states it in their auction....Humm...Sooo shipping to Australia was $10. I'd also lost a bunch of their other auctions on the same day i won the $1.70 comic.

I thought fine..They must be going to used the USPS bags which are around that price to ship internationally. I paid.

The comic arrives in a normal white envelope with one piece of cardboard..And it states $4.60 on the bag....$5.40 was pocketed. The comic wasn't insured otherwise I would have paid an extra $1.70.

Now seriously...The cardboard, sticky tape wouldn't cost that extra $5.40. I've sent the seller a friendly message asking them about shipping and if it was possible to get a refund on that extra money as I call that over the top.

BMX, you (general 'you,' not specifically you) do not have the right to tell the purchaser of an item they should be happy with everything just because you say so. It will always be a customer's right to complain if they feel they have been mistreated. Set was unhappy because a seller charged her money, only to line his pockets, not to make her feel good about her purchase, nor to properly ship the item; then used extortion to mitigate an horrible judgement call on their part. How else would you explain the offer of half of the shipping price back? The seller is unscrupulous, if that is unclear to you, then sorry but the fact remains, he tried to circumvent the process AND he did not make his customer happy. It is the same with insurance, if a seller charges you for insurance, and does not buy it and you get the item safely anyway, should you have had to pay for the insurance? No, you are paying for a service you did not get, irrelevant of whether it was needed. Set paid for shipping and handling and would not have said a word, if any reasonable care was taken in the shipping of her item, but none was delivered. There are too many good sellers out there who know what it takes to have a good customer base, and yes there are customers out there who complain about every little thing, but this is not a person extorting a seller for lower shipping, this is a customer who was treated unfairly by a seller and extorted for offering her opinion on the subject.

The real kicker is, even if Set agreed to remove the feedback, which would have to be done with the approval of both the seller and the buyer, there is really little chance she would have received anything from the seller, because once the feedback was removed, he would owe her nothing and there would be nothing she could do about it.

Look I'm not trying to defend the guy because he was obviously trying to circumvent Ebay's policy....but this new change doesn't really help things at all...now buyers are just going to be leaving knee jerk negatives for sellers. Uh, I'm a girl ;) And I did try and work it out with the seller like I said..And they were only willing to give me any money back IF I removed my neg...Otherwise they were not willing to work out anything at all with me..So I did infact neg them because I couldn't sort things out when I had tried.

I will not outright neg a person unless really needed. I thought in this case it was justified..I was thinking of leaving a neut because I was unhappy with what had happened with exessive shipping..BUT when the guy wasn't willing to reason it really left a sour taste in my mouth..hence the neg.

Because it wasn't what I expected! $10 for shipping = $1 bag...Where did the $9 go certainly not into the packaging? Into the sellers pocket. But like I've stated before within this thread eBay allows for some extra handling but not EXCESSIVE pricing like he did. I went about it the right way (like I stated before) by messaging the seller and kindly asking for refund..He dirrectly told me NO but it wasn't until I left him a neg did he send me a private email telling me he'd refund me $5 if I would agree to take way the neg..That is shady.

I'm tired of people trying to rip off eBay and think it's 'alright'. Ever think for a second why eBay is getting crazy with all these new rules and fees?! Might have something to do with the way sellers are treating their buyers....All it takes is a few to spoil it for everyone.

Yes, and don't get snippy...I did read your whole post and actually what your bolded was my point too...I AGREED because I thought it was FINE because of where I live.

eBay clearly states you are not allowed to over charge on shipping and in this case (doesn't matter if the buyer agrees) it truely was a rip off..excessive shipping.

Wow Set this really sucks...I hope you keep up on the reporting of this A$$ with ebay. That behavior should not be tolerated.

Following up with this goof-balls line of thinking...how long would ebay itself tolerate an auction that stated the following:

"I know shipping and handling costs are elevated, but because ebay is a monopoly money sucker I must charge this amount to increase my profit and avoid ebay fees."

I'm sure an auction reading like this would last a long time. :P

It's too bad that ebay limits the amount of space for feedback reply...I would have just quoted this guys e-mail to you as the reply.

Man what an idiot that seller is! Talk about shootin' yerself in the foot eh? And I'll tell you what, this guy's follow-up behavior has me rethinking my position on the original point of this thread. The guy's obviously shady.

Hmm...Now this is contradicting himself...Because he is indeed trying to get around the eBay fees...So if he lists his items for $35 with free shipping THEN eBay would be eating into his money but the $25 plus $10 s/h they don't touch the $10. And as it seems he is all about earning extra dollars from his shipping..I don't really see this as avalid excuse to charge the way he is and he's trying to pull the wool over my eyes but trouble is for him it's not working which he knows and it's pissed him off.

Honestly, if he wants to play the eBay game, he should be playing by their rules. If he doesn't like the fees they charge, he doesn't need to use them for selling his stuff.

If he truly thinks it's okay to add his costs into his postage fees, then why can't he add them into his starting bid costs instead?

Oh wow...this seller is now harassing me through eBay..I'd actually forgotten about him (pervious week I learnt how you can do follow up to someones feedback).

Today there was this in my inbox:

Spazz- Thanks for explaining it..I understand what you mean now..I bought the item on a BIN so I couldn't do what you say but yeah.

Dead- HA..Joking aside..You know if someone is going to do that then they should be smart enough not to get caught by hiding their charges. $9 isn't the worst I've been ripped off...I recall it was around $60 to $90US on shipping. Very different story all together.

I won around 150 comics from a seller in the USA..They told me shipping would be $100US...I thought it was fine because of the weight of the books...They told me it would also be arriving by Airmail which could take up to a month, I was fine with this.

2 months passed and I didn't see the item so I got in contact with the seller telling them my concern...They got in touch with the post office which in turn let me know that AusPost had been looking for my package and was just wondering if I'd actually recieved in....i had to fill out a form to let them that I didn't.

Another 2 months pass and the comics arrive on CHRISTMAS DAY....Yea..strange. Anyways, I take a look at the package and noticed he'd sent in Freight (slowest way possible) not via AIR like he said. On the package shipping was around $30US......Now this really made me mad. For one the package was 4 months late, I was told it'd be shipped one way but wasn't.....And then the biggest kicker was I found out how badly I'd been ripped off with shipping.

I couldn't complain to eBay because it was TOO late to complain...that was the worst shipping experience I've had.

Here's a different point of view:

Since you didn't believe, at first, that $10.00 was to much to pay and found out that it only costs $1.00...maybe, just maybe, everybody has been ripping you of for your entire life and this person just got caught. I think you should negative everybody...everywhere...all the time:P

Just to clarify what I was talking about. Lets say i'm willing to spend $30 on a comic. I'm fine with a $3 shipping fee so my bid will be $30 on the comic. If the Shipping costs $10 then i'll bid $23 tops. In other words, they can charge what they want but I will not be spending more than I want to.

If I calculate my time taken (perhaps a little under 1 hour) against my usually hourly rate and then add in materials and petrol, a $9 handling/processing fee does not seem quite as high as it did.

Obviously this applies to small volume sellers, mass volume sellers processing 10+ packages a day would have transporation to post office costs spread across a number of auctions.

Very big 'professional' sellers will be employing people to process the orders for them and will have wages bills to meet.

Again in my first post I said I messaged the buyer asking for a refund on my shipping...I went about it in the manner I was told to do by eBay..I was friendly about it as well. But when I get a straight out NO then what can I do? So I neg them. I was unhappy with their rip off service.[/quote]

That was totally the right move, and you're right that it's what ebay says to do first. I also think they have some kind of system for handling disputes, I don't really know how it works. But basically, I think they set a time when you and the seller can get together with someone from ebay and hash it out. At least that's the impression I get.

But look man. It obviously bugged you a lot that he charged so much above the actual shipping cost, and then refused to do anything meaningful about it. Negative feedback is there as a recourse for you to use when you feel like you got burned; you feel like you got burned so you used it. Makes sense to me. I probably wouldn't have, but believe me, you have many many reasons to be happy you're not me! ;)

Okay again....How the heck do I respond by saying this in a different manner.

I LIVE OUTSIDE OF THE MAIN PART OF AUSTRALIA!! We get higher shipping costs because of living in Tasmania as our packages have to travel extra distance via sea or air. Usually (not always) this can put the price of shipping up due to this very fact- WHERE I LIVE.

To me the $10 charge WAS FAIR...I agreed with their terms...I fully thought it was a FINE to charge me that much. So like I said beforehand I AGREED to the $10 charge! With the fact there was Handling included....What I didn't expect was to get a bag only costing $1 to send to me.

A $9 handling fee is unreasonable especially when the seller does not use anything to protect the package.
