Okay. This is an auction for a Captain America #100 (1968) that I wouldn't expect anyone at this forum to bid on. (I'd better not!)

The seller advertises the book in "Near Mint" condition and apparently the bidders are happy to take his word; half an hour left on it and the bids are upto $179.00! He even posted a picture of the CPG websites pricing page to illustrate his comic prowess, wow. Just with the front cover, I'd estimate this book at VG+.

*sigh* With 4 negs out of 6 total feedbacks, the blame for such a selling farce shouldn't fall soley on this seller. So frustrating to see a train wreck before it's crashed.

Legit bidding seems to have stopped between $600.00 - $741.00, 4 hours prior to the auction's end. I was watching this to keep track of the FMV...Bad bidding hurts. :angry:

best place to sell valuable comics

So I'm wondering the best method to get the most for some of my comics. Eventually my wife and I will have enough money to open up our own store, and will use a lot of what we have in the store, but we have some worth a LOT of money according to our price guides. I want to send some of them to CGC to get graded, but I just want to know whats the best way to get money for these? I noticed on Ebay most sellers aren't getting even 1/2 of what they pricing guides say they are worth...

for instance I have 1 copy of Haunt of Fear #15 (1) worth anything from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars. I'd consider it a 7.5 on the cgc scale. I'm going to be sending it to CGC to get graded, but will I be sitting on this FOREVER or is there somewhere other than ebay where I can get to get the most for it? Even when my wife does open up the comic book store of her dreams, I don't want a potentially $2500 comic sitting on a shelf... you know what i mean.

It's an old topic, but now I am tired. Again, a seller charged me $6 extra on shipping cost claming it's for handling fees, but I received my comics without bag and boards shipped in a box with some paper to fill it. The comics arrived in VF condition but announced as NM

Should I give negative feedback? I never did it, but now it's enough.

What would you do?

What is up with these sellers these days? Within a week I've had sooooo many bad experiences. Before I'd buy books posted as VF and was never really satisfied so I started buying books only posted as NM.

I bought from one guy, 5 x-men books all listed as NM and NONE of them were. They were ALL in poor condition. Complained to eBay. They offer a refund of the money I paid for the books, not for the shipping I paid PLUS I still have to pay for shipping to ship the books back. After everything is taken into consideration, I only get $1.50 of the money I spent. NOT WORTH THE CLAIM!!!!

Then another guy lists all kinds of Uncanny X-Men books as NM. I bid on them. Won them all for an average of around $1. When they arrive, I get books that are not NM but instead a low VF (7.5). I know grading is in the eye of the grader, but how can someone not tell the difference between NM and a very low VF? I have a feeling he wasn't happy they sold so low so he didn't send the NM copies.

I want to file a CLAIM, but again, i'll end up losing money.

Have you guys ever dealt with this? And this is just the two i'm telling you guys about. There's three more ---- all within a wek of each other.

But $1,000 + for #14 in G/VG condition when OS lists it at $575 in 9.7 condition?!?! I guess when you're the only guy on eBay selling them, the sky's the limit in terms of what you can charge.

I've contacted him about bringing the prices down on a bulk purchase.

Looking in the ebay comics category there are about 130,000 items of which appx.70,000 are auctions.It seems like not too long ago the number was much higher,at least double.There are less than 10 featured listings and I have seen the time when the first 7 pages were all featured listings of keys,high grades & slabbed books.

So what's happened? Have they all been moved to stores? The number of store listings is around 1.6 million.

Sorry,if that's where they have gone I guess that leaves me out.I liked scanning the auctions and getting the sweet deals that other people missed.I don't look for a specific book very often and if I do I usually will just visit lonestar.

Man,ebay really sucks these days.

By the way,I have an ebid account but haven't actually listed any comics there and the other stuff I listed there just kinda sat with very few looks.Has anyone had any experience on ebid? Care to share them if you have?

What's With Ultra-High Buy It Now Prices on CGC Comics?

Hi. I mostly buy CGC graded comics off of Ebay and have noticed some sellers consistently listing their comics with crazy, ultra-high "Buy It Now" prices. I know some people say that CGC graded comics are too expensive, period, but these are just ridiculous. What is the explanation for this? Can anyone possibly be buying these comics?

So here's an interesting situation...:hmmmm:

As it happens I sold my CGC graded X-men #1 and Avengers #1 over the weekend...NOTE: the market is down on lower grade items...after almost a week and 50+ watchers and half a dozen bidders...even CGC'd the books only pulled in 3/4 of guide...

Anyhow...it used to be that you could ship your merch through Paypal and print a shipping label that included a free "delivery confirmation"...you hand it to your local carrier or hoof it down to the local PO and they'd scan it into the system so your buyer had a confirmed shipping date...

Now, because so many people were shipping multiple packages that way and were holding up local paying customers (and getting a discounted service through Paypal) the clerks will no longer scan the packages. the only system record you will have is when the box arrives at it's destination and is scanned for delivery (doesn't always happen)...so the buyer will never know when it was actually shipped...nor will you have any idea of it's whereabouts along the way unless someone takes the effort to scan it...which I can tell you from experience is unlikely...

The breakdown here is the fact that unlike the UPS...the post office does not automatically scan packages on their way out...unless they've sold you the service themselves and then it's part of the process...

I doubt Paypal will do anything about the glitch, because they can't automatically enter it into the system when you buy the label, because they have no way of confirming that you actually shipped it...

So in a nutshell, it amounts to getting a useless delivery confirmation for free...:crazy:

And the post office wonders why they loose business...:D

What does a comic have to be worth to you, to sell on Ebay?

What I mean: At what value is it worth it to you (very subjective) to go to the effort to set up an auction? Scanning, writing the text/information. Cost of doing business on Ebay. Shipping cost etc.
Of course fair and reasonable shipping cost is a plus for me.

All factored in, do you want a (single book for example, but could be a lot) to make at least $10.00 for example? More? Less?

Just wondering folks thoughts.... I have a number of books (been collecting on/off) for almost 40 years... Will be 47 soon... and at some point have to start thinking about getting rid of some... They are really only my treasures (not my wife's or sons).

Anyway, what do you like to get in return to make it worth your while...

Missing covers-are they worth anything??

Hello

I am going through some old boxes from when we were kids, and I have some comics that are missing covers?? All of the pages are there. Did they remove them like they do with books when they don't sell and are returned to the publishers-maybe we just took off some of the covers, or they fell off??

Anyway, I have one I looked up- Our Army at War ;The Rock of Easy Co # 81 which is listed as being worth a lot of money for a mint edition- Is there any value to what I have, or should I just kick myself (again and again) that it doesn't have a cover and move on?

I've searched on the internet, and I can't find anything about this. I have a couple copies of complete Spirit comics circa 1972 and am planning on selling them, but have no idea what a fair price is. They are inside 2 sealed bags, and while the outside bag is dingy, I'm pretty sure they're in fairly, if not very good condition themselves. (pictures below.) There are 3 separate bagged sets inside the main bag, and I have NO idea what the covers of the other two look like. Or the backs of them because there is notes about each story from Will Eisner on the back. Apologies for the less than stellar pictures, but I do not have a scanner and without removing them from the bags, I can't do any better.

EDIT: I just found it on Will Eisner's site. He lists it as "The Spirit Bag #1-4". That is the ONLY mention of it on the internet according to google. =/

Eleven years ago my Dad died unexpectedly...what did I look for first? The boxes of Eerie and Creepy and assorted other horror books. I put them in bags and boards right away. Most appear never to have been opened. I would gladly sell individually or en masse to someone who might *really* love them like I did when I was eight and would sneak down to the basement to admire the covers. Just don't know where to start. Thanks in advance for any input.

I own the 4 set series of "Pokemon The First Movie Mewtwo strikes back" All sealed and the first of the set is sealed with signatures from the voice actors of ash brock and misty on the cover with a certificate of authenticity showing it is of a limited series.

My boss at work is HUGE into vintage G.I.Joe's and has a side business devoted to them. He recently warned me to STAY away from selling my comics on Ebay. I'm wondering if this scenario has happened to more than a few people.

Basically a Person sells an Item on EBAY to a Customer. The customer pays the seller the money, but when he gets the said item, he complains to the seller saying it's in terrible condition and wants his money back for the original item. You do your best to resolve the issue but end up giving the customer his money back and you get back your item. BUT the item he sends back WASN'T the item you sold him. It's the Same thing, but a completely destroyed/terrible condition item. You cannot get ebays help and you cannot get the buyer to admit to anything.

Basically my boss warned me about scams going on a LOT dealing in collectables of people who already own an item, buying one in better shape on ebay and then sending you their "Shitty" item saying to ebay that you sold them something falsely advertised.

The hype off of Jackson's passing definitely makes this the best time to unload this book...but jeez!!!

Is there a census of issues of this book owned by CPG members? According to what I've found CapitalCity circulated only 1875 issues in 1989. I guess I'll be digging mine out...untouched since '89 when I bought it. Not sure what shape it's in but if it teeters the 9.6 range I'll be sending it off to CGC. ;)

Captain America 241, CGC 9.6. Isn't this the 2nd Printing?

Overstreet lists a second printing of this book, which they say is worth about $3 in 9.2 condition, while they list the first print at $32 in 9.2 condition. I believe that this comic is the second printing. I'm basing this on the price in the diamond box and the slash through the UPC. If you do a search on ebay, most other copies of this book show the price in a regular square box and no slash through the UPC. However, the CGC label does not note this as a second print. Did CGC make a mistake or am I mistaken? Thanks.

I'm not trying to promote my listing since I'm going to yank it off ebay in the next day or two. Just wondering what you would think it would sell for? We are going broke by the minute and I have probably close to 300 CGC books now. I have such a hard time parting with them. My wife worked for Suntrust bank for years and we have watched her 401k CRASH! Times are hard but selling comics is even harder. Anywho, like I said just wondering what this lot is worth. I just took a random select group of books of mine.

I'm also going to sell grabbags of different quantities and prices. (I think this is the most exciting aspect of collecting for me). Any advice?

Hey, I don't buy graded books, but I went and bought an X-Men 137 graded 8.5. Is this a good price for it, or did I pay a huge premium for it? Not sure what it goes for in VF+ condition?

I missed an X-Men 101 graded for $22... that's actually a hole in my collection, so I am a little mad because even in FR grade they seem to sell for over $30.

Also, looking to buy a Secret Wars 8 to replace mine which received a nice fold approx 4" triangle in the corner... Is $24 ok for 9.4, or again is this a huge premium for the slab?

I was at a convention last week in Milan and was very disappointed. Only one dealer has comic book in english. But I managed to buy Amazing Spiderman 302,303,304,316 to 328 and 361,362,363 for $1.3 each, most of them are in the VF/NM range and a couple (324 and 326) are F because of a corner in bad shape. Now, I want to sell it, but I dont know how to list the lot on ebay. Should I sell it as a lot? or list individual issues with combined shipping? Or should I sell it in small lots like ASM 302-301, ASM 316-318, ASM 361-363? There are a couple of issues that are potentially interesting sales (316 i1st Venom cover, 302-304 early Mcfarlane, 361-363 first CArnage) and I'd like to make the max $$$ out of it. any advice is welcome

Do you think we should start some type of "Do Not Buy" list for sellers that over grade like crazy on their books? I am pretty sick of buying books that are advertised as NM with NO FLAWS and then you receive a chew toy....

Another take can be, a seller review, where we can post a seller name and give a review of grading accuracy & shipping.

Hi, opinion urgently needed. Here's the situation:

I bought a sketchbook (I'll not say the name of the artist) in a book shop in Spain. It's a 64 pages hard cover sketchbook printed with high quality paper. I am a fan of the artist and often I look for sketchbooks on ebay and I never saw something similar. It's like the Roll Royce of the sketchbooks. So I decided to list it on ebay with a VERY high BIN price; 16 hours after the auction started this is the result: 141 views, 15 watchers, 2 offers (50% of the asked price) and a message from a member saying I am violating copyright laws, that I have to remove my listing before Adam Hughes and Allison Sohn get me banned from ebay. Now, I know nothing about copyright laws, there is inside the front cover any kind of legal information: ISBN code, name of the editor and an email. I will ask to them about this, but also I am interested in your opinion. Lately ebay is giving my any kind of problems.

This is the one thing I absolutely HATE! about ebay title searches. The "used car salesman" of ebay love to put "not CGC" in their listings so it comes up in a CGC title search. For God sakes we know its not a CGC book and isn't 99.999999% of all comics CGC ready? Whats a comic that isn't CGC ready? Has it not found a date for the prom yet? I'm so sick of the all the shady *** comic dealers on ebay trying make that extra $0.65 on there over graded book. COUGH milehigh COUGH.

Where to auction large runs/collections

I have about a 30+ year collection of around 3000-4000 books and am starting to sell off what I have. (Just no time anymore to keep up with it anymore.) I am using Ebay for many of the smaller runs (mini series, individual books, or shorter run series), but wondered if anyone had any experience/advice on how ad where to sell larger runs. Selling off 200+ books in a lot either seems to net out pennies on the dollar, or not sell at all. I spent many years putting together this collection and would just like to get part of the value out. I hate to put up something like a full run of Ledgend of the Dark Knight, pay the listing fees for an auction worth a few hundred $$, and then have it not sell or go way below value. I know you don't get true value for books like this, but I don't want to take a total hit on it either. :)

Are there better places to post these types of auctions/lots than EBay? I have had little success with CPG auctions or other niche sites. Are there shops or other online services that buy this type of thing?
