I think you'll find it a lot easier with the community holding the doors open for you rather than trying to slam them shut. But be cautious, even the cleanest slate, once it has been written on, leaves an impression.

Unfortunaly that is true , but I think if I am open to all questions and can answer them without an attitude, I just may be ok. So far the response to my change has been good. :) That tells me I am atleast going in the right direction now. I also want to thank all those who did come to my defense and stuck by me even though it was getting ugly. :hehe:

If that's your decision, then you got my support. This ain't no dang defeat, but a new direction. Go ahead and commit to it with all ya got and I believe that one day you'll be one of the best in the business.

One of my college professors told me a story one time when I was in a bad place and struggling to advance in my studies. I hit a plateau, and no matter how much I tried, it seemed like everyone was advancing but me. He said to me "Dave (cuz that's my name), what's the most important trait that you need to become great?" I automatically answered that it was either raw ability or intelligence. He laughed. I was feeling so sorry for myself that I was like, "Dang, I even got that question wrong." He said the most important thing that a person needs to be great is perseverance. There are smart people everywhere, there are beautiful people everywhere, heck there are even gifted people everywhere, but those who would be great must be able to try and fail and fall and get up until they find that they have stumbled, and crashed their way to their goals. You'll get where you wanna go MasterCPU, but you sure as hell won't get there without bruises and scrapes. Hell, where's the livin' in taking the easy route? ;)

That's just it, Tex. If he was solely doing this for himself and his personal books, most of us probably wouldn't care (I know some still would though). But seeing decent mid-grade copies of silver age books being ruined kinda makes me sad.

I mean, using the example above and the X-men which he pulled the pics of, I can easily say 'wow, the white is so much whiter' which is all MCPU wants to hear. However, if someone pours a bottle of bleach in the wash, fading the colour of the clothes and permanently ruining the integrity of the fibre of the fabrics and then goes 'but look how white the whites are!' they deserve a good smack down.

If MCPU's goal is to offer his services to the public, he needs to show some care when working on books and not just the target the results of the specific work he is doing. I don't care how white the cleaning makes the book if colour is removed or more creases result. If, as a potential customer, I asked him to provide better before and after pics of his work and he came back with 'those are the default settings on my camera -- they're good enough' you can bet I'd take my business elsewhere. And you could also bet that I would let him know he's being an ***.

Imo, Boboset, this is why we need veteran posters like yourself and others who who have the knowledge (or know where to go to get the knowledge) and the experience to help guide noobs like myself. If it wasn't for Universal Soldier pointing me toward the archives of the CGC boards, I wouldn't have thought about looking into restoration issues like I have for the past month or so. It sucks that I had to go elsewhere to get this information, but it just wasn't available for me here. I guess that I could be considered as one of those who glorify what MasterCPU does without knowing what I'm talking about. Boba, I consider you a friend, and like an older, wiser brother so don't get upset with me. I'm not at all upset, and I'm hoping that I'm not misconstruing what you have said. If I am I do apologize.

I am just going to be plain about this. I know that resto is a big deal to many of you. It is not to me. It's just that simple. I love my comics and I'd never sell any of them unless I was in a severe financial bind. I have a few that I'd really like to have looking better and that's why I took the chance, and sent them to MasterCPU. It's a first for me. I love to have my comics, to read them, to display them. I am not using them as an investment, nor as a means of increasing my financial worth. It's my hobby, my passion, and I want to do it and enjoy it my way. So far I am happy with the results he has shown.

That said, if MasterCPU is found to be doing something sneaky and underhanded, and is selling off comics to people without divulging information, or passing himself off to be an expert and he is not (if he is a fraud), then have at him boys. Crucify him and run him off the boards. But if he is not a professional, and says that he's NOT a professional, and divulges all resto as he should, I do not at all understand the problem.

Let me explain. Say that I were a millionaire and I purchased a copy of Action Comics #1 (I wish) and I rent it in twain directly after I received it, and then burnt it like kindling. Then what's that to anyone but me and my bank account? If someone sends comics to MasterCPU, like I did, knowing full well that he could screw them up, like I did, no one suffers but me.

If MasterCPU is not great at comics resto, then he'll need time to get better. If he's a little sensitive, and he can be at times, then he needs to build up a tolerance and be willing to go head to head with logic and proof as his weapon against those who are questioning his abilities and motives. But I think that we all should remember that comics collecting, or restoration is a love, a hobby, and a passion that is shared by us all in our own particular ways. We should be here encouraging each other in our several pursuits and having meaningful discourse without, jabs, verbal assaults, and humiliations.

I have been silent on this matter hoping that it would work itself out, that we as friends and as humans could have a proper discourse and problem solve without unnecessary, untoward confrontations. I have had enough confrontations and personally felt enough hatred to fill up two lifetimes. I tried to leave it all in a desert very far away. I love CPG. I could never stay away too long. Let's keep it fun, let's make it enjoyable, let's make it educational.

I have total confidence that we can do it.

Please work this out.

In my experience, good posters tend to either stifle or ignore consistently weaker posters and only move on when something newer and better pops up to occupy their time. I'm guessing a few newer and flashier forums have probably popped up that have put a drain on CPG?

That's not what they said and I think you know that.

What is being said is that any amateur work done should be onextremely low quality issues of non importance ... and that you should not be offering your "services" to the masses, or your work for sale.These seem to bevery understandable reasons for people who thoroughly enjoy their hobby and wish it to be held to the highest of standards, not reflected only toward you, but towards everyone.
I assume that you began posting the work that you do (and the fact that you continue to put up your work makes me believe I am correct) because you wanted real feedback about what you are doing, not just "oohs" and "aahs" for the magic. I've read the posts from CGCand CPG and find most responses toward you/your work respectful, eventhough it was not what you were hoping for. Only now, after you have left many unanswered questions, are people digging first and looking second (yourself included). You really should have expected some razzing and some curiosity towards your motives ... even now so more than before.
By not taking (or now sometimes mocking) the advice of more learned professionals, by removing pictures, and by using "goon squad" you only continue to feed the flame instead of trying to extinguish it.

You should put the picture back, imo, and consider what I've said in this and your other thread(s).

I don't know what you are reading but that’s not what I have noticed. From the beginning I have received one insultafter another which was drowning out the constructive criticism. I could post a dozen if you like but it’s unlikely that will change your opinion which is why I get tired of addressing posts. I feel that most people ignore the answers they don't like and choose to ignore the truth when it doesn't suit them. The people who post positive along with negative get my attention and I give great thought to what they say. If all their post are negative and put downs I am not going to pay attention to them. I could go on but I think it’s a waste of time as no one listens to me accept what they can find fault in what I say. Hell I got one guy who just cares about my spelling mistakes and I am supposed to listen to him? C'mon, give me a break. Also I like Kenny but his work is not perfect yet he doesn't get any criticism at all because he's been doing it for a while and works for CI and I think that’s bullshit. I thought the comic just needed to look better than before but all I get is crease this and Ct that and key book this. I am not going to let people tell me what I can or can't do and those that try will get the big ignore from me from now on. I'd keep posting your work even if all your feedback was negative. I was actually interested in seeing the results of this process on an amateur level, but now I can't. I probably would also have asked a bunch of questions about your rig and how you got the results you did. So just like a writer who's immensely proud of how many rejection letters they've tacked to the ceiling, I'd relish every negative comment thrown my way and keep posting anyway if I were you. It's the closest thing to the "mark of an honest man" you'll find on a forum.

That's not what they said and I think you know that.

What is being said is that any amateur work done should be on extremely low quality issues of non importance ... and that you should not be offering your "services" to the masses, or your work for sale. These seem to be very understandable reasons for people who thoroughly enjoy their hobby and wish it to be held to the highest of standards, not reflected only toward you, but towards everyone.
