A lot of harsh grades coming from "the citizens". I only see a few defects (that I can see from the scans). You've got a small chip out of the top-right corner on the front cover, a couple of small spine creases, and a couple of creases on the back cover. I would give it an 8.0. Unless the back cover is really dirty and it's not from your scanner. If that's the case, I would then give it a 7.0.

Whatever the grade, really nice looking book.
Funny thing is that point on the cover that looks like a chip is a discoloration and not a chip. This is why this whole grading of scans is not quite the panacea it would appear to be. I showed this comic to 2 dealers and both graded it 8.5 - 9 under regular light and observation. Nice white pages and sharp corners, etc. The scan seems to harshen the book, at least in this case. While I'm holding onto it for the nonce, I've been offered top dollar by both people I showed it to, and somewhere I have a House of Secrets #92 that looks even better, but it's in one of many boxes stashed away in my closet that will take some time to figure out and reach, as well as an even better copy of ST #1. That scan was of my lesser copy I was thinking of parting with. I just wanted to check out this whole scan and grade routine. It's an interesting but flawed science to be sure, thus far. Thanks for the input though, folks!

RE: Grade My Swamp Thing

looks pretty good to me 8.0-8.5

RE: Grade My Swamp Thing

Man! Thanks for pointing this out.....of course maybe I just need to wipe down the glass as it's been a few years since it's been used and cleaned.....

RE: Grade My Swamp Thing

Well if it's not really dirty then I think I'd give it an 8.5.

RE: Grade My Swamp Thing

I think it's a deficiency in my scanner, it's very old and probably could use an adjustment, because I just pulled the book out and looked at it under light and it's pretty white, not dingy as it appears in the scan. Oh well, I use it mostly to put books on Abe with, and not really for evaluating comics. Trust me, that Swamp Thing looks almost as new when seen in person.

RE: Grade My Swamp Thing

The front's beautiful, like 8.5. But the back's so dirty I'd take a number off, call it 7.5.

RE: Grade My Swamp Thing

Aside from the CBC's around the staples it looks like a real solid book. Probably a 8.0 - 8.5 with out the soiling. I would think a 7.0 -7.5 is a reasonable guess.

RE: Grade My Swamp Thing

Bigger scans definitely make a difference.

7.0 was my first estimate...the soiled back may bring that down a bit: 6.5.

Good scan size the second time.

RE: Grade My Swamp Thing

New Scans....first time scanning for this kind of use and wasn't sure how big to create the file. Hope these ones give a better idea. Thanks.

They are bigger at photobucket, but when shown here they appear smaller. Is there a way to fix that or can the images be analyzed ok at this size? Still trying to figure all this out.

RE: Grade My Swamp Thing

7.0

still have to see a larger scan

RE: Grade My Swamp Thing

Wish I could see it larger (or in person even ;))

I'd say between a 7.0 and 7.5

Looks like a little chipping on the top of the cover, and slight scuffing. Corners are slightly blunted maybe? Hard to tell for sure with those scans. Decent looking copy though. I keep trying to upgrade my Swampies, and if I ever find a really nice copy of HoS 92 I'm gonna spend all the monies I have on it. I'm all about getting one with as perfect a front cover as possible.

RE: Grade My Swamp Thing

I'll give it a conservative 7.0 pending a larger image.

RE: Grade My Swamp Thing

Some kind of creases made in the binding process.
