First 4 Spawn comic books

Alright I still got these 16 year old comic books from way back when I was a little kid. I know the value of these is not very high because the fact that so many copies were made and so many people bought them so that means lots of copies are floating all around. Right now DNA Comics will pay me 10 bucks for the first copy, a few for the 2nd and 3rd, and they said the 4th is worth a little more. These are all in near mint condition because I've only opened them once to read then stuck them right back in the plastic case. What I would like to know is how fast will the value of these comics go up? Right now they are pretty valueless and I feel like if I sell them now it would be such a waste. If I hold on to these for another say 4 years in the near perfect condition they are in how much would the value increase?

People tend to think having a signature on a comic is going to raise it’s value..Is this right or wrong?

Many people debate this issue on comic forums daily so here is a small guide to help make up your mind before you get an artist to sign your comic.

Ask yourself some simple questions beforehand:
1. Why are you getting the comic book signed?
2. Is the comic going to be just for your personal collection?
3. Should the comic be signed on the cover OR inside of the cover?

If your getting your comic signed for personal reasons then by all means get it done when you have the chance. The comic itself will hold more personal value to you even if it’s not worth much money wise. Some people get their comics signed on the inside of the comic book (first page) to not reck the front cover appearance. But again if you have no intentions of selling it get the signature where you want but if you plan to possibly resell in the future think about where the signature is going to be put.

In general people are only going to pay for a signature on a comic book if it’s a key book or they really want to own the book. As Joker states on the CPG forum- [i]“The only time signatures truly increase the value of the book is when it is a key book, signed by a key person in the creative process and CGC Signature Series encapsulation.”[/i]

Comics that are signed by well known artists and are dead could possibly raise the price of the comic but again you’ve gotta consider the condition of the book too.

Overall signatures on comics comes down to personal opinion!

Hello,

The other day I won a 1st Edition Black Panther comic in mint condition signed by John Romita Jr. aka "JR JR" and is the 1st issue of Black Panther. I don't collect comics, and would like to sell this but, I don't know the value of this. A friend who did some research for me estimated I could get at least $30 for it. I guess Romita's father was best friends with Stan Lee as well, to go on-top of him being the cover artist for this comic. The people that gave it to me (the hosts of Gamma Powered Radio) says it's worth a pretty good amount. Anybody else have a more accurate estimate of how much this is worth?

Since CPG has ignored my request to list Dime Press, an Italian fanzine of comic book noir, I've decided to start this informal record of existing sales; specifically for Dime Press #4 (the 1st "true" appearance of Hellboy). According to Amazon.com only 2000 prints of this book were ever published. And although CPG may not perceive any value in this book (yet), many collectors do and are willing to pay big to get in on the ground level of this newly realized event as illustrated in the list of following sales. Many seller's as of this date, are located in Italy...after all, it's an Italian Comic, but the buyers have been located in the USA. Anyways, this is for those who want it, have it and need it. "It" being Dime Press #4 and the going prices of this comic.

On the old forum I started something similar to this for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 first print. I was disappointed because guides weren't just inaccurate they didn't appear to even follow sales enough to give collectors, like me, a gage of going prices. I guess guides are in fear of being wrong but in an age of such wide spread communication and information one would think...*sigh*:ermm:

Hey everyone,

Well I've been buying Marvel Graphic novels for a few months now and have grown very interested in this comic world. But I want to take it further and start collecting (real) comic books, store them in a box and read them only once by me.

Now I guess my question would be should I just focus on lets say the "ultimate series" or the uncanny xmen series etc. or should I just buy what I find cheap and hope that it may have value in the future.

Im basically asking will the ultimate collection be worth money in 20 years or will time tell that? Are only owning the first few issues of a series be worth money some day? Am I wasting my time lol.
I just figure instead of buying these graphic novels which will be worth nothing in the future I should "invest" in the real deals.

And is buying off this site and ebay the way to go?

Im basically a young grasshoper hoping some jedi will teach me a few things.

I was going through my box of comics and came across a laurel and hardy 1972 1st edition... in GREAT condition except it has 25 marked on it with ink twice... must have got it as a kid at a yard sale....

how much does this alone bring down the scale... I am new at this I kinda inherited 4 boxes of comics and am jut now going through and logging year and title and number...( lots before 1981... and a lot after that too.)

is there some where i could send the oldest off too to be graded? and what does that cost. cuz i got a little lu lu too and a 1971 pep

I also have a vol 2 1971 partridege family but it has 25 cents marked on it in ink too!

I'm always on the look out for Silver age Marvel books, and purchased a bunch of SA Daredevil books. I was wondering what you guys thought of buying SA Daredevil now. Theres not much buzz or anything around the old issues or anything regarding a movie reboot and I'm not sure if Marvel owns the rights to it or not. plus, I'm not sure if Daredevil books will be desirable down the road from now. I'm not to sure if I shold keep buying and try to complete the run. Any advice would be very appreciated!:D

Here is my question. My wife and I have been collecting 1st issue and special issue comics for over 20 years now. We own a wide range titles. We bought them and immediately put them in protective covers with backboards, most have never been read. What is the best way to grade them, and is is it possible to have a 10.0 (gem) grade??

comics value with limited edition signature

Hi!

I read the sticky first on signatures increasing the value of the comic. I understand that it is of personal value depending on individual, but what if the autograph is limited edition and numbered for authenticity?

I have in my possession a Neil Gaiman autographed issue of Sandman. It is autograph number 798 of 2500? (I think I know for sure its number is less than 1000 but not sure on total number of copies off the top of my head) The comic is not in front of me at the moment.

That being said with Neil Gaiman gaining more popularity with his many books and now a movie that was a pretty big hit, what would be the value of this comic now? How about in 15 years? I'm curious so that I can get insurance on the comic if needed.

The comics are in very good condition (9.4)
And are kept in plastic covers.

I recently accuired five 3' boxes of comics from the early 90s, still sealed in a clear plastic sleeve. I was told this was from a collector and that none of them were ever opened and from the looks of it, it would appear he's telling the truth. There are about 1300 comics all together and I paid him $100 for all. According to this site and 4 days of creating a checklist it comes to arond $11000 that's if I selected the proper grading. My question is do these really go up much in value over the years or would it be best to try and sell now.

Supply vs Demand or Money vs demand

I've been collecting comics for 25 years approx...and I go back and forth between super hero comics and old four color kinds of comics and there is something I always find amazing about it.

If you have money, you can put together a run of ASM 1-500 in probably a week via ebay, or a day via any comic show of decent size. The only thing that makes your run different from someone elses is condition of each book. Actually, if Bill Gates wanted to, he could probably put 100 runs of ASM together in a couple of months via ebay as all issues are always available. The only thing stopping anyone from completing this run is money.

But if you want a run of Four Color 1-500, in any condition, you couldn't do it in a year on a bet in my opinion. You would have to be pretty resourseful to pull it off especially if you sit at home and do the buying via ebay. And yes...it would also cost a pretty penny to collect all of these.....but probably less than ASM and that is where demand comes into play.

A run of either is impressive but I think the only reason a run of ASM is impressive, is because of the value of them....not because you actually found them all.

How many people actually have a full run of Four Color??? 1-1200+ I'd sure be impressed to see that because money is only ONE of a few factors involved in putting that together. Time and effort are the other 2 biggies.

Ok, I'm jumping the gun a little I know, but just browsing through the Price Guide I was thinking about these 2 Tom and Jerry Comics I have from the late 60s with the TOPS comics insignia. Well It's not listed in thier section at all.

Does anyone have any knowledge of these comics ,what their value might be, or anything???

if there are such copies, what would either an Action comics #1 or Detective comics #27 sell for in NM condition?

i say an ACTION 1 raw would go for about 2,500,000 and a cgc copy would be about 3,500,000. a DETECTIVE 27 would probably pull about 1,500,000 raw and 2,500,000 cgc'd.

what would you say?

I have a copy of Maus chapter 7, the insert from RAW #8 (September 1986). Is that worth anything at all? I checked the price guide website, but it only has the Maus trades listed.

I'd say it's in decent condition, though I'm not a collector at all, and don't really know what counts.

I have been collecting for years and I find the different source of values all very confusing. In the end I realize a comic is only really worth what someone is willing to pay for it, but why do Wizard and CPG differ so much?

Example: CPG lists Wolverine #145D Nabisco Variant at $504 with a CGC grade of 9.6. It also states that at 9.4 sold for $500 in 2005 and a 9.8 sold for $2100 in 2006. I paid $200 for it(CGC 9.6) at Wizard World Philly over the weekend and Wizard values it at $180. Where do all of these numbers really come from?

I started this purely because I want to debate the issue a bit.

Can a signature on a comic actually hurt its value?

I was thinking of getting my Incredible Hulk #331 signed by inker Kim Demulder at the Pittsburgh Comicon coming up in late April. Now, I know next to nothing about inkers, but generally speaking, can a signature from someone who worked on the comic actually HURT that comic's value? Perhaps due to not being in the mainstream, high-demand, etc.

I once read somewhere that it could so I thought I would open it for discussion.
