Thanks for all the input!

I guess when you consider that right before I bought mine, there was another Action 13 that had a so-so cover, AND the Superman story had been cut out and taped back in. That issue sold for $2300! Which I guess means that someone paid around $2200 for the cover.

nice post... CPG value for PR 0.5 is $320...
i think the book went for about fair market, no? :)

with a hard to find book like this... when it is in your price range...
you have to buy em when you see em.
and early Actions are really difficult to find.
therefore the price, to some degree, is relative.
you may have 'overpaid' by today's standard (i am skeptical),
but by the time you are ready to upgrade... you will make that difference up.

I think you did all right. I've sold over 100 coverless and partial DC Golden Age in the past year. Auctions usually started at about 35% of good price. Never less than 25% on a relist. At $400 and a good price around $1300 you hit the ballpark I've found.

$400 seems like a lot for a coverless book, but I guess of you are happy with it that is all that matters.

Not sure I would go for a coverless book unless it was a real key GA, then I might reconsider.

The reason for the high value of this book compared to other issues surrounding it is that Superman is on the cover. Without the cover, much of the reason for the high value is gone.

Now if you're able to find a cover to marry this book to, then the book might be worth it. However, it would not be surprising for the cover alone to fetch a high price, again the reason being an early appearance of Superman on the cover.

There is one aspect to this buy that I did not mention. Its rarity.

Overstreet list it as "scarce" less than two hundred issues thought to exist.

Most collectors I have talked to consider 100-150 to be a more realistic number.

The CGC census on this issue by the way is "10".

i would've paid 250 max if it was coverless. depending on what the rest of the book looks like. if the rest of the book is like fine or higher i would pay like 300.

I recently bought a copy of Action Comics 13 on Ebay. I think I paid too much for it, but; it is one that I have had some trouble finding.

It is Coverless, but; complete. It has mild water staining on the first page, and yellowed first page. The inner pages are nicer. The centerfold is there ( announcing the first issue of a new comic "Superman".), but; detached. No cut outs.

It appeared on Ebay as a "Coverless Superman comic of unknown age".

Anyway, I paid 400$ for it.

What do you all think? Too much? I do know it is considered one of the harder to find issues, in any condition.
