I just read Crossed #0 by Garth Ennis,

It was like a car wreck. I couldn't look at it, but I couldn't look away. I do not even like horror comics, but after my friend let me read his, I went straight to the comic shop to buy it, but they did not have it. I went to good 'ol ebay and bought the Red variant. This story has me intrigued. I just wanted to know what all of you gents thought of it.

Ahh..I hate this...I just remember what the comic looks like and not the name of it.....But I remember one letter and it was in the top middle 'X'.

Cover description- Yellow high school bus in the background, teens infront (mostly girls..i think even one blowing bubble gum), some brick walls of the school to the right (really not sure if this is correct though)...And in the front is this angry looking guy with possible headphones on, backpack and I think he is holding a wepon of some sort.

The top of the cover is white and the X is in black and possbly embossed. Then below it is the picture I described.

Urrgghhh....That's all I remember...Don't know who's it published by either...Just this description in my head...Oh and of course it's a modern comic :P I also think it's very new..Say from around Nov to Feb...Haha.

I hope someone can work this out..haha..I wish I could >_<;;

Anybody pick this first issue up? I just finished reading it and i'm already looking foward to the second issue. I've never read anything by Zenoscope or the creative team (Raven Gregory and Vic Drujiniu) before. what else have they done and what titles do Zenoscope have?

I'm sure my recommendation doesn't mean much but if any of you guys haven't picked this up and fancy something new to read then it's certainly worth a try.

Zombie's Recommendation Thread

Well, Tex suggested I start a thread with my recommendations. I wasn't so sure it was a good idea at first, but figured I'd give it a shot. I'm not goig to bother with books that already have a wide audience(Blackest Night, Walking Dead, Amazing Spider-Man,Etc.). This will be more for books that are likely to be overlooked on your LCS's rack.

I'll try to post a short review for any book that meets this criteria that I think is worth reviewing. I'm not going to bother with the duds.

Everyone else is free too add books that they would like to recommend to others, and discussion/feedback on any I post is encouraged and appreciated.

Ok, first up is Victorian Undead from Wildstorm, written by Ian Eddington with art by Davide Fabbri. The basic plot is summed up best by saying Sherlock Holmes vs. zombies.

I don't know about all of you, but to me, that's some pretty art.The layouts are solid too.

Now, when writing a extremely smart character like Sherlock Holmes, it all comes down to how smart is the person writing him. Hard to judge for sure after only 1 issue, but Eddington seems to know what he's doing and where he's going with the story, so I'm going to give this book a conditional 3 and 1/2 zombies. So i guess that translates to a "read if the subject matter interests you."

Next up is the new 28 Days Later series from Boom! Studios. I've tried to do a little research and find out if this is an ongoing or mini, but haven't found out for sure yet. Either way, it's at issue four now. Written by Michael Alan Nelson with art by Declan Shalvey, this book picks up shortly after the end of the movie, but before 28 Weeks Later. The focus of the story is on the Selena character of the film as she agrees to lead a team of documentary journalists into the quarrantine area to report on the story. I don't think I'm spoiling to much by saying things don't go exactly to plan.

I just rewatched the movie to compare it to the book, and I'd say the writer does a good job with keeping Selena "in character" while showing a little more of here backstory that was only hinted at it in the movie. Unfortunately, I can't say the art is anything special. It's not bad, and gets the job done, but that's about it. Last up for my inaugral post to this thread is Starr the Slayer, a 4 issue mini released by Marvel under the Max imprint.I must admit that I'd never heard of the original series until I was doing research on this one, so I can comment on how it compares, but I can say that this was one of the best minis I've read in awhile.Daniel Way's story of a Conan-type barbarian who starts as a villager and becomes a fighter in the gladiator pits is kind of hard to describe, as it also involves the fictional creator of Starr who is brought to Starr's world through magic. But it's got some good action and twists and some of the funniest dialogue I've read outside of a Deadpool comic.

As for the art, it's by Richard Corben. I know he's not everyone's cup of tea, but I'm a fan, and I think this is some of his best work.

The ghost of a deceased, dickless (literally... it gets cut off) special forces operative enters the body of his goody two-shoes brother, who happens to be a Catholic priest, and they join like Volton to become a freaky creature who slices folks up. Also, there's a subplot involving "scientific documents".

It has potential. Like most things these days, it's all "muscles and guns" as Damien Knox might say. Most amusing indeed.

Are Comic Books Getting Too Expensive?

So someone brought up the amount of time it takes to read an issue of Buffy is it pertains to ratio of comic books per episode of live action. The general consensus seems to be about 10-12 minutes, or, 3-4 comics = approximately one episode.

With that in mind, I can't help but feel like I've been getting kind of ripped off (Secret Invasion obviously being a huge catalyst for this thinking as it would cost 300 dollars per person to read the entire Secret Invasion storyline). Is the digital revolution around the corner? Because I'm ready for it, bring it on! I'm spending 30 bucks a week on comic books just to read the bare minimum! I can't count the number of comics I would *like* to be reading if not for the price tags.

Image Comics - Phonogram: Singles Club recall

Just a heads up on issue 5 of Phonogram: Singles Club from image.

There was a printer's error where the first print run was barcoded as issue #4 instead of 5. The issue bar code is numbered 00411 instead of 0511.

The print run was pulped, but some had already been shipped. The shipments were supposed to be recalled to be pulped, but some were sold anyway.

For the sake of accuracy, you may want to check your issues to see if you have an error issue or not. The error issue has been entered into the database already.

Review: Daredevil Noir

Of all the superheroes born during the Silver Age, Daredevil has been able to hold my interest (in all his forms save cinematic) the longest. Something about him always seemed [i]viable[/i] to me, despite the unrelenting barrage of fan assertions over the past 4 decades that his powers have been more than a little exaggerated at times. In fact, the comments started pouring in as early as the '64 debut, and that's one thing Daredevil Noir doesn't do - [i]make Matt out be significantly more than he conceivably is[/i].

By the way, I disagree with those folks regardless. He does what he does. Just read it and enjoy it.

Anyway, this is just a quick review of Daredevil Noir. It's [u]readable[/u]. It's jam-packed with corny, unoriginal noir dialogue, but it does focus on countless colloquial "Kitchen" elements of his universe that I've always thought were excellent hooks in terms of highlighting the trigger for Murdock's simultaneously "devil-may-care" yet direct approach to the crime fighting process. The Noir angle is a grimmer, grittier and remarkably Batmanesque take on the whole affair sporting the art of Tomm Coker, which somehow overshadows this spin's shortcomings; specifically the sluggish plot progression. Like most current issues, it's overpriced and unnecessarily resplendent, but it's worth it for the "kid sittin' on yer bed readin' comics" feeling you get from flipping through it and seeing really excellent art on almost every page.

So I stopped by my LCS today and saw Ultimate Spidey number 1.....so I grabbed a copy...then I saw 2 variations up at the register for sale.....one had a diff cover and was 6.99, and the 3rd was a silver foil variant of the regular edition and they wanted 19.99 for that. So I hesitated and thought about it....and decided to splurge and grab the silver edition. I asked about any others and they told me there was a rarer one but they didn't have it...but if they did...it would have costed me 74.99. YIKES!!!!

Anyone buy any of these? Your thoughts on them??? Will it/can it be as popular or good as the first USM??

It's a shame no one buys comics other then Marvel or DC. I mean come on, Secret Invasion? Final Crisis? How comics can DC have with Crisis in the title? There are many titles that come out each month, it's a shame no one will try anything new. Batman and Superman and most of DC's popular characters have been around for 60 years or more. How many times can they tell the same story? Not to mention it seems every year DC tries to either delete Earth-2 from history or embrass it. Marvel characters are 40 years or more. X-Men was good when I first started collecting comics in '85. Now it's one big soap opera. They made Spider-Man that way too.

There's so much other stuff that's creator owned that's good. Or at least looks good. 10% of the comic collecting world will try these comics. It is a shame that all these comics are sitting on shelves.

I've been out of comics for 6yrs. I used to be an avid DC collector. Now I'm looking at new stuff. From different companies that have different characters then Spider-Man or Batman.

Other then this my biggest complaint is the price of comics. I'd rather they go back to newsprint and other cheap ways of making comics. But oh well.

Hey,

Has any one read existence 2.0? It's about a physicist, Sylvester Baladine, who finds his mind transferred into the body of the hitman who killed him. He begins to enjoy his new life in a younger, better looking body, until he finds out that the very people who plotted his murder have kidnapped the one only person he loves - his daughter. With only limited time before she dies, Sylvester confront the past he was happy to bury and figure out who tried to kill him and why they want his daughter, inadvertently making himself a target once more.

I found this comic to be very, very, very entertaining. The story was fast paced, and the only thing that really redeems the main character is his love for his daughter. He's a bit of a bastige. It's a cool concept that I can't really remember in comics before. He has a device that helps him jump into bodies. I don't know yet if the old body necessarily needs to be dead or dying. What's super awesome it that if he lets go of himself and relaxes, he can tap into all of the skills of the old body!

Is anyone else reading this? If so, what do you think?
