FYI I have the Spider-Man DVD and the Marvel watermarks only appear if you're not running Adobe Acrobat Reader version 6.0.1 or later.

I hope I never get caught in one of those time warps. I don't want to be a 80 year old man trying to dress like a teen, but I also don't want someone to look at me and say, "I'm guessing you stopped buying anything new in 2015" when it's the year 2030.

I still bemoan the rise of the compact disc and the death of the good old LP and gatefold sleeves!

Well, it could never match the experience of holding the book in your hands, but for ease and convenience - and price - it is a decent alternative.

PS I can sometimes age a comic just by it's smell.... :P

I started getting these as well. they are great references when you need them instead of going to get the box and then pulling the comic out of the bag and freaking putting it back without the tape catching it.

Having seen the marvel logo though.

I've only picked up the 500+ X-men edition, but I'd say it's not a bad deal. Personally, I haven't used it all that much. I much much MUCH prefer to read the stories in print rather then in pixel, but it's a nice reference resource when I need it. My collection does not have watermarks anywhere on it either for what it's worth.

Don't get me wrong, my goal is to own ALL of the individual issues one day and buying these would not lessen that desire for me, that's why I've never just ran out and purchased TPB's. But to be able to have the issues at your fingertips for reading or reference is kind of a neat thing.

I wonder if Marvel will do different series other than just re-releasing what is already available on the 500+ collections. I'm curious how well these will sell since you get so much less. Everywhere I looked I cannot find out what the special bonus features these new releases have, unspecified is the word that keeps popping up.

I like the cases these come in, but like I said I wonder how you would know what's what when you line them up on a shelf as there appears to be no title designation on the side. I wouldn't have any problems reading them and my girlfriend could finally read some series since she cannot touch my books. I have nothing against digital comics, I just couldn't read them exclusively.

I thought I read somewhere that the Marvel reader versions were not the best quality and that's what these are which is another of the reasons I am apprehensive about picking them up and it just seems to make more sense from a financial standpoint to track down the 500+ collections.

I have the FF, ASM and X-men 500+ collections, and believe me all the crap about it not being the same as reading the actual book (which is true to a point), is more than made up for the ease at which I can sit down and read through 2-10 issues in ones sitting and not have to worry about stopping suddenly due to a 'child' emergency or digging the ones I actually own out of the boxes.

Thanks for this post Sherlock -- I knew that Gitcorp (or whatever they are called) lost the Marvel license to do the 500+ DVDs and they can't make them anymore. The reason given was that it was in conflict with Marvel's online back issues, which sounded lame. Now I know it's because they've licensed to someone else with less issues per DVD.

I've thought about getting some of these mainly just to have available as reference material. My question is I was going to pre-order the Iron Man and Hulk dvd archives which come out in September and contain the first 50 issues of their original comic series, but than thought why would anyone buy these when you could buy other Marvel collections that have over 500 issues for not much more than double the cost of these 50 issue ones? Also the 50 issue collections do not seem to have anything printed along the side which would make them confusing as to what was what when lining up on a shelf:
