okay picked this up tonight!!!

19 comics paid $5.25 each for these....

still lots of tape on the out side casing so there really isn't any creasing will look better during the single shots.

before grading paid $100.00 value is $1516.00..

will post individual pictures after grading each one for total value.

DON"T STOP HUNTING THEY ARE OUT THERE TO BE FOUND!!

you got to love finding them encased/as well as bagged and boarded.

I love great deals and have made a few, but sadly I think I'm like a lot of people here who have to conclude they've overspent more than they've underspent.

But I've had some moments....

I found a very sexy Fox jungle comic for $5 when it should have been worth $150. The online seller mis-listed it, mis-named it, misspelled it... I am not sure how I found it. But when I did, I said, "Whoa."

Found a few other really nice comics in a similar fashion.

I've also managed to get some excellent comics at a local auction. They were hidden among a bunch of comics that looked like they'd been run over by a truck. But sitting at the bottom was a FN/FN+ copy of Strange Adventures #9, and a VG+ copy of Mystery in Space #1. Those are early DC sci-fi comics and they're very valuable. Averaging them out with the other comics in the lot, I'd say I got them for about $30 each.

Other good deals have occurred simply because I was polite and responsive to sellers who had begun listing their comics, but confessed the process was time-consuming and frustrating, and they just wanted to unload everything and be done with it. Often there are people who come across treasures, but don't care if they get the ultimate best selling price, as long as they get something. One guy sold me a huge lot of golden-age horror and sci-fi comics for $10 apiece. Realllly great considering many of them are worth more than $100 (and most were in VG or better condition). One of them was Strange Adventures #8.

I've also found some amazing stuff hiding in lots. Somebody will have a lot that is almost all crap, then over in the corner there's a comic that's worth more than the rest of the entire lot combined. You just have to cross your fingers that you're the only one who has noticed!

Craigslist mostly sucks, but I've found a few great deal there. They're usually from people whose relative passed away, or who somehow came across the items in storage or at an estate sale, and they have no idea what they've got. The trick with Craigslist is you have to see and respond to the ad right after it's posted, otherwise you discover you're the 9th person to call and the seller already has a bunch of people on the way to their house, at which point you might as well forget it.

I did get some awesome Craigslist deals though. One was from a guy who posted what he had at around 11:30 p.m. on a Wednesday, and I managed to spot the listing first thing Thursday morning. Luckily I didn't have to work that day, so I could run right over. I got a couple grand worth of high-grade, golden-age comics for a fraction of their value.

The problem with the whole "great deal" finding thing is you have to put in TIME to make these discoveries. It is very gratifying when the time you invest finally pays off. But it's still time lost. Over the course of your life, you have to consider all the ways you could be spending your time, and figure out if it's actually worth it. If you can discover a $2,000 comic but you have to miss out on day after day of fun in order to do so, did you really come out ahead?

Nah, need to sort through and pull what I want. 99% DC. From the past five years, all issues of Superman, Action, related to that, Natman, Detective, Flash, GL, JLA, JSA, etc.. Also tons of runs from 1980 on of those titles and others. Need to sort and figure it out. All bagged and boarded. probably 2500-3500 books give or take. Anyway, when the time is right, I will advertise in the proper forum.

about 15 years ago, I ran an ad in the Baltimore Sun newspaper classifieds -- "Buying Old Comics , any condition, call ............." 3 weeks into my weekly advertising, a lady calls me -- her Uncle is going blind, and has a box of old comics that he can't read any more -- you know, the "dream" call. Bottom line ---- Good+ AF15 was bought for $60 that day :woot2:

The best deal ever is up for grabs...

I'm currently selling my entire collection as a lot for the low price of $850 plus shipping if applicable. The collection is a total of 718 comics with a total value of $3,394. The majority of the collection is Daredevil (issues ranging from 54-300), Incredible Hulk (200's and 300's), as well as many 90's superman, spiderman, and X-series (X-men, X-Force, etc). I spent a few days before Christmas putting each and every comic in new bags with new boards in new short boxes as well as cataloging them on here. The collection is located in Orange County, Ca. Well, not as good as y'all have posted, but my best finds...

My UXM#266, gem mint... not a wrinkle, I think it was unread, I read it while inspected it... would easily go for top dollar, paid $5.50.

My last trip to my liquidation sale shop got me a UXM#268 for half off cover, $.50, and I'd say a 9.4 at least. Kinda sucks, because in the last four/five months of long-box checking I couldn't find one at this place and broke down paying book price ($18.00) at my LCS.:angry:

The trip before I found a Captain America Annual #8 for half cover price, $.68... which I had paid book price for months ago ($30.00+)! ARRRGH!!!:crazy:

On eBay I got a lot of 64 comics, UXM, and for about $40.00 I was getting #158 and #171 (first Rogue in a UXM issue, first Rogue joining the team) which was what I was aiming for, and a bunch of after #300 issues I could use in filling my UXM run. This guy also had some goodies in the middle... #'s 201, 210-213, and 244 to top the list, all at about 9.4/NM.:w00t: Have no idea what the seller was thinking...

I just came back from my favorite LCS and they have .10cent boxes about 5 long boxes. I was able to get 140 issues for 14.00 mosted first issues nothing big mostely worth cover to a couple $'s more.

Best deal I ever had was when I was about 10 or so in the late seventies. An ad in the paper had a comic book lot for sale for 35 dollars. I was the first caller and got slightly over 800 comics. Mostly superhero stuff. You can guess the original cover prices....10, 12, 15, 20 and I think the highest price was 25 cents if I remember correctly. I was REALLY happy then and still have great thoughts about that day. And yes I still have them.

Most of the comic lots I buy on eBay are usually pretty awesome, and cheap. One box I got for $50 and I found a lot of old 1940-1950 Dell comic's in there.

10 years ago my local comic shop got in a Life With Archie number 2. They were selling it for $50, but because I was one of their regular customer's, they sold it to my dad for $25 (I was 12 at the time, sooo...)

About 1994, I purchased about 2200 books for $500. The Dell's alone would have been worth it. But, here are a few other goodies from that batch.

Capt America 100-112, Venus 17, Challengers of the Unknown 4, Silver Surfer 1-17, Uncanny X-Men 94-111, GS X-Men 1, Conan 1-50 and a ton of other goodies.

I have two stories you can tell me which is hte better deal.

Back in the early 90s I picked up 2 copies of Valiant's Harbinger 1 - 6, so I could keep 6 in NM condition and the other 6 to clip the coupons to get issue 0. I think it was around '93, but I can't remember for sure, all I know is that the Valiant wave was riding high. It was at this time that I went to a comic con and traded those 7 issues for Green Lantern issues 76 - 87. No cash exchanged hands, it was just a trade of books. At the time this was a decent deal and for all I know he had these GL issues for 2 years with no movement, but here comes a kid with Valiants that are red hot, and he wants these slow moving books. Today that would not fly, but that's what makes it such a great deal. Like I told a friend at the time of the deal, I could always find the Valiants again, but the GLs will be difficult to find and only get more expensive.

Now for a more recent deal. I recently purchased a large collection from a guy who's kids no longer wanted them. It seems that his kids have moved out of the area and neither wanted the comic collection. He had a list and it seemed like a nice collection; Wolverine issues 1 -139, complete run of X-Factor and the New Mutants. I called him and asked what he wanted, he said $300.00. I offered $150.00 and the deal was done. Well the list was only about 30% complete. Sure there were books like X-men and Star Trek, but there were some nice gems. Complete run of the Transformers, with issues 70 - 80 in the best shape. Dead Pool 1 - 33 and both mini series. and the best find, a 3 pack of So Much Fun comics, still sealed in the bag! Like I said there is trash in there, really does anyone want any of the 2099 books? Still this was a great find.

Got some comics at half price for 10 cents each today they where suppose to put $1.00 tags on them nothing special couple of $5.00 thru $10.00 issues but kind of fun. They were cool about it but the second I was done boy did they grab that box and change the prices.

What was funny there was a BARBIE #50 which I would never buy but kept on looking at it and when I got home looked it up it was worth $12.00 go figure. Now can't pull the trigger for a $1 but .10cents would have been nice.

yes plan on going two hours before it begins I went 30 minutes early and was #426 and it took me two hours to get in. This one was there warehouse in downtown seattle. I'm sure they do them in the other states as well. Jesse

Wisconsin is the closest to you. However I will tell you that when i started buying from them two years ago there was only 5 states they where in. As of this year twelve. but I just went on line and see they are in 15 states now. So you never know. Still like the feel of the friendly neighborhood comic book (1st store i ever bought from in Vegas 1982) store though. but you can't beat .75 cent comics for .38cent each (they get you for that extra penny thoses thiefs lol)

I still hit the thrift stores every once in a while but they but those darn stickers on the cover and they leave that residue on them.

If anybody know how to get that off let me know.

All the comics are half price of cover and they have specialty area for more expesive stuff as well golden age usually 40% of book. they have a sweet Batman #10 in about nm for $700.00 right just can't seem to pull the trigger on it though. let me know if you need any more info?

My best find was about 6 years ago. I was bidding on some books on ebay and a fellow ebay member contacted me and said he was interested in selling his collection, but he didn't want to do the whole ebay listing thing for the issues. He sent me an excel spreadsheet of everything he had and to my surprise there was Iron Fist 14 (first appearance of Sabretooth), Spider-man 300 (first appearance of Venom), and a bunch of Uncanny X-men numbered between 100 - 150. Plus there was a lot of other stuff, but those are the main ones worth mentioning.

I told him which ones I was interested in. He came back and said he would give the ones I wanted to me for $120. I accepted. Sure I remember it being a little risky sending a payment to a random guy without any type of written or digital contract in place, but I figured it would be worth it if this guy was for real. And sure enough, within a week he had sent everything.

I currently have the Iron Fist 14 hanging on my wall in a shadowbox graded by CGC as 9.4. I haven't graded the Spider-man yet, but I did notice that on the inside of the cover it was signed by Todd Mcfarlane. He told me that ahead of time, but I wasn't sure to believe if it was real or not, but after doing some research I found that Mcfarlane has been known to sign comics on the inside of the cover rather than on the outside.

Oh and one of those X-men was number 142 and it has a John Byrne signature inside the cover as well.

I never seem to get deals. Best I ever did was 600 uncirculated bronze issues of Marvel superheroes types for 33 cents an issue. i resold at $1/each.

Best deal/find I ever had was getting an Incredible Hulk 181 8.5 for grading my bosses' friend's collection about 12 years ago (with a few Neal Adams X-men to boot).
