The magazines can be among the hardest to find, I think.

As you may have read earlier in the thread, the Vicki comics are the hardest to find, especially in higher grades, at reasonable prices.

But, they do come up on eBay occasionally...I know a few Vicki's sold a # of months ago for about 1/2 guide. Unfortunately, I was the seller. :P

Thanks for the welcome. I got hold of some of these comics a few years ago and read them and I was hooked. You are right, after I sold off my "extras" I immediately hoped that I did not regret it. I am beginning to. We'll see...next, I am going to go after the magazines. I don't know, I've heard some people say that Atlas/Seaboard wasn't fresh, and that the comics were derivative, but I like the comics alot. Particularly Targitt, Phoenix, The Destructor, Demon Hunter and Planet of Vampires. I am definitely holding on to the set I have. Anyway, I kinda like the idea of an upstart brand of comics coming out to challenge the big two. Even though Atlas/Seaboard didn't last, it changed the comics world forever. You have just got to respect that.

It's too bad you didn't keep your other Atlas comics, while not an 'investment' in the financial sense, it's worthwhile to preserve, in my opinion.

I recently completed my search for all Atlas/Seaboard Comics #1's and 3d (or 2d) issue switches in VF or NM condition. I had a few completed sets, but I sold them off, only holding on the the keys. I do still have 2 complete sets: Targitt and The Scorpion.

I just wish someone could find something on those suspected puzzle magazines.

I debunked my own theory about the Swank magazines.....(Now I have these old adult magazines I need to unload. :P )

Maybe someone will stop by on here and show us a text magazine we don't know about...hopefully. (or not)

Finally got my Vicki #3! And it's even a 9.0!

So, 67 + 4 text.

Looks like I just need Gothic and Secret.

I have a feeling this means I am as close as I am going to get for a long time.

Congrats Argus. From what others have said Vicki's can be a tad more problematic in finding than expected.

Got my order in.

Now up to 66 comics + 4 text.

Only missing Vicki #3 and of course Gothic and Secret.

I got that Swank in, and it was published by Swank Magazine Corp, not Seaboard Periodicals. There is a connection though. It appears Charles Goodman was the president on Swank Magazine Corp at the same time he was heading Atlas/Seabord. (The perv....)

A low grade Thrilling Adventure Stories No. 1 turned up in a lot that arrived this week. If I ever finish the publisher I will probaby upgrade it but for now it takes me to 17 issues for this publisher.

I think it's sad when comic retailers only know Marvel & DC. The reason I'm tracking this down is that I'm tired of seeing 3,000 cover scans of Amazing Spiderman #1 & 450 cover scans of Amazing Spiderman #50. I know what the books look like. Everybody wants them. That's nice. Most of the dealers I talk to know what Atlas was, they just don't know collectors are out there trying to complete the set. For me, getting this & Gothic Romances was a prerequisite for me to collect the set. I only bought one when they came out and although I wished I had bought more, it was probably a task better saved for later. I appreciate them much more now because I didn't get them. I kinda take for granted a lot of the stuff I've amassed over the years. Don't tell Fuj.... but X-Men kinda bore me now. I still like them, I'm just bored with them.

What I find a little sad is that probably over half the dealers I spoke with at the teeny little KC con did not even know what Atlas/Seaboard was.

I found one dealer who did seem to know what Gothic Romances was, but he said he hadn't seen one for years. I am still not wholly convinced he actually did know.

Several of the 'larger' dealers (ones with actual 'wall' books up) did not even know.......

I s'pose I will have to stick with Marvel and DC........at least I am close to finishing my Tek World set! ;)

EDIT: I almost forgot, I DID pick up Movie Monsters 3 & 4 at the con so:

At the show today I picked up something for an arm and a leg...

It seems that the seller who sold me the Gothic Romances dug into his stock and found this also. He priced it extremely high in hopes he wouldn't sell it. I offered him 20% less and he took it. I still paid a lot, but this magazine is funny. There is nothing comic related about it, but it's still neat.

Thanks, Defiant, I hadn't looked at that in quite some time.

It is too bad the Goodmans have passed. The comic story is well known, but there is still much we don't know.

What's the story of 'My Secret', what else may have been published by them that were non-comics. If anyone has 'My Secret', if you ever get the chance to review the indicia and compare it to Atlas/Seaboard's other magazine indicias, are they actually the same??

I suppose I shall have to wait to die before getting the answers.
