:hmmmm: ... but what about that suppose bullet? Doesnt it look like a clear case with the Mr. Mind bug in it or the thing from "Countdown Presents: Kamandi" in the issue with the giantic super bats? What if it is Mr. Mind bug, because you know that the new SHAZAM (A.K.A. the former Captain Marvel Jr.) supose to make a debut in the coming issues of Final Crisis (I think #4 or #5).

:w00t: If you think about it... Mr. Mind always is messing with time... and he did implant himself in all the universes... maybe Dr. Sivanna shot him back in time to grow in Metropolis, but killed Orion by mistake? The bullet did bury itself pretty far into ground.

:w00t: Oh... yeah! Isnt there actually is a Green Lantern (depicted in Sinestro Corps Sercret Origins of the Green Lantern Corps) that wears a hood all the time?

:P Anyone think that the exile Monitor will return (in Final Crisis) to her stasis as a Monitor, but with the ring and lantern specific for the Monitors to find for the "Darkest Night" arc, because the red ring and lantern is found and depicted in "Final Crisis: Rage of Red Lantern"?

"I'm the only one who knows there was a war in heaven, and evil won. The multiverse takes a single breath like a runner posed on the line and it's my breath. There is a sound. A sound like the crack of doom. Like a starter's pistol ... and this is me. And now I remember."

These ominous words followed by a lightening bolt appear at the end of "DC Universe No. 0", a one-shot prelude to the upcoming "Final Crisis." A sequel of sorts to 2005's "Infinite Crisis" and 1985's "Crisis on Infinite Earths," the series is DC Comics' most anticipated book of the year. A summer blockbuster going head-to-head on the shelves against Marvel's "Secret Invasion," the first issue of "Final Crisis" will arrive in comic shops on Thursday, May 29.

The book is written by Grant Morrison, an acclaimed British comics writer whose works include "Doom Patrol," "We3," "Animal Man," and "The Invisibles." Morrison has also worked on more mainstream superhero comics such as "X-Men" and "Justice League of America." The seven issue mini-series is illustrated by J.G. Jones.

The actual plot of "Final Crisis" is something that DC has been somewhat tight-lipped about. Early promotion for the book has been a series of pin-up images of various villains with one-word titles such as "Power" and "Envy." While most of the characters in these advertisements are familiar, much of the buzz has been around Libra, an obscure Justice League villain who is believed to play a major role in the storyline.

"I think there's a lot of interest in the comic," Kathleen Miller, the owner of Comic World on 4th Avenue, said. "I don't know if the posters are working or if it's just the build-up. DC has been very hush, hush as to what it's about."

Miller thinks the book will be a hit for DC, whose major title last year, "Countdown," was met with mixed reviews and somewhat lacking sales.

"I think this book will be a step back up for DC Comics," Miller said. "It's not going to be a weekly title like 'Countdown,' so that's going to put off some of the pressure on readers. It also gives time for anticipation to build between issues. With 'Countdown,' some weeks were fantastic, and others were lackluster."

In addition to the main series, DC will release a number of tie-in mini-series, as well as storylines in ongoing series such as "Batman" and "Green Lantern."

In "Batman R.I.P.," the Dark Knight is pitted against a deadly group of international villains called The Black Glove.

In "Legion of Three Worlds," Superman travels to the future and teams up with the Legion of Superheroes to battle a team led by an evil doppelganger of himself.

Another tie-in, "Rogues Revenge," follows a group of Flash villains whose efforts at settling a personal score leads to them paired off against the evil Libra as well as the heroes.

Isaac Morgan, a part-time employee at Purple Earth Comics, also thinks the book is going to be a big hit.

"DC has been doing a very good job not telling us too much. All we know is that this is Armageddon ... Revelations for our heroes," Morgan said.

Morgan said he is intrigued by the handling of the villain Libra.

"This is Grant Morrison doing what he does best. He's reaching into the back for a villain that people may have forgotten and turned this character into something of a legitimate threat," Morgan said. "From what we can see in 'DC Universe #0' and the new issue of 'Justice League of America,' he's turned Libra from a one-shot bad guy into this cult-like figure.

"He's like the pastor of his own religion in a way, and he's telling the villains that 'I can give you whatever you want.' His message is very empowering to the villains and they think they can win this time around," Morgan said.

While the situation is looking rather dire DC's heroes, fans may be seeing the return of an old favorite. It's believed Barry Allen, the Silver Age Flash, will be making his return to comics after being gone for more than 20 years.

"Marvel and DC are pulling their ace cards at the same time." Morgan said. " 'Final Crisis' is something that Grant Morrison has been working on ever since he's signed with DC, and 'Secret Invasion' is something that (Brian Michael) Bendis has been setting up ever since he's been with Marvel. Both have had time to tell a great story, and it will be hard to tell which one will pull out in the lead until it's all over."

:ermm: To get back on subject about Final Crisis #2... did anyone notice the bullet(A.k.a. 50 year old "Time Bullet"), that G.L. John Stewart found at the crime scene and the same bullet that Jay and Wally see Bart Allen reaching out to (seemingly looking like he trying to catch it) with "Black Racer" closely behind him, looks like a clear casing for the Mr. Mind bug or the "thing" (Referencing from "Countdown Special: Kamandi- The Last Boy on Earth" another early work from Jack Kirby) that was disposed of (that was suppose to kill it) into space ?

:hmmmm: Also... did anyone notice the time travel that Jay and Wally did to investigate Batman's ideal, after surfing the internet, about the bullet? What did it have to do with Martian Manhunter's un-timely death (or bursting of his heart) have to do with Orion's death?

:w00t: Oh... wtf was so important that Batman had to send Martian Manhunter off to do that so secret, before he was found so quickly and killed, that he keeps it from EVERYONE!!?

Exactly. i used to be a HUGE marvel fan boy, snubbed everything DC and never gave it a chance...

But once i got the money to start buying other comics and trying them, back in like...i dunno..november last year, I bought a couple DC's, probably batman and something...i don't remember..

But, i liked those, and bought more..and that turned into more and more...

I Like DC's style way better than marvels, and thats just how it is. And i appreciate them not changing anything to sell comics, i Couldnt stand another marvel right now, their universe freaking sucks ***.

and yes, i didnt know anything about DC either, but only after a few months..i'm pretty good at understanding a lot. it isn't that difficult..people just like to be lazy, like Kree..=P..or have their stuff dumbed down. I for one enjoy a complex story, although...DC isn't that complex, it's just more story driven, and you get more for the money.

Thanks for that history leson...but if i have to go back 100+ issues to figure out whats happening in the 8 issues that comprise Final Crisis...ill pass...Morrison likes to do this sort of thing...but it throws readers off because of the work involved in caring enuff about the story to actually do the research...and i am about a years worth of crappy stories past that point...

It's not a success just because you've figured out what's going on, and have read every other obscure comic Morrison has written since 2004. Understanding what the heck you're looking at should be the bare minimum!

:crazy: Does anyone realize that you dont actually have to do "research" to find the Final Crisis so far at issue #2 interesting or just intriguing.

:Wow: You guys also once more took simple conjecture to help you with some concerns you had so far with "Final Crisis" to re-read or take another look into "Final Crisis #2" and maybe look at #1 and maybe re-read and maybe... just maybe look at "DC Universe Zero".

(being the cool-hearted person I am) am not a well seasoned DC fanboy or reader... and just recently as of December of 2007 got into comics and happen to only get excited about reading them (especially DC Comics) because when surfing the internet I found a site called "Wikipedia" for DC (while looking up what a multiverse is) because I saw a movie called "The One" and has been hook with DC ever since!

:hmmmm: (This what got me into DC) Think about it like this: First time reader and new to DC comics and read a online summary of a tradepaper back of "The Kingdom" and found out that a guy name Gog hates Superman so much that he went back in time a day, every day since the day he first killed Superman to killed him again again only, because he felt Superman didnt feel his pain. This dude went went back so many times he killed him over 360 times in different ways until the birth of Superman's child from WonderWoman. You telling me that you wouldnt jump on the DC "bandwagon" after reading just a summary? Were there is even a heck of alot more story that makes you want to get into the rest of DC and read other major events and tie-ins after just reading about ONE DC super-villian and ONE DC story arc? Plus... and you want to know a cliffhanger to get you even more interested? Gog was human and used to worship Superman... geez the guy even went so far to establish a "Church of Superman"!!!!

:w00t: Plus, the first DC comic I ever picked up was "Black Adam: The Dark Age". Also, before... when I first ever got into comics and was a avid comic book reader... I was a TopCow reader of the Darkness series and I didnt get into that until I was 13 in middle-school... and Witchblade (for obvious reasons besides the story) too!

:P So... im no plant... I just read, enjoy and fall in love with my old/new favorites of when I was a child when my Dad was a DC and Conan fanboy and read to me his comics (even when I was a baby in the wound (My mom says)) until I was 6yrs old when im good and did my chores (of course)!

Guess im not high brow enuff. :P

Thats kinda why the sales of all DC's "HOT" books are dropping......they are not accessible to new readers...not to metnion lazy ones (see Kree_boy).......cept for GL...they retell the orgin every 5min.....and change it 12x durring the retelling....but thats ok....since they are working twards an event that Morrison isnt writting...;)

:Wow: You guys are completely weird to not understand some or have used some of your thinking skills to the events thats has been unfolding in the Final Crisis books.

:D Here is what I got out of the 2nd issue so far:

1) New Gods of Apokolips are doing a "body-snatchers" because Darkseid relized that he can since falling from grace back time and landing into that mob boss dudes body from "Seven Soilders vol.2" as "Death of New Gods", "Countdown", and "DC Universe Zero" depicted, if you, disreguard Grant Morrison's interviews on the passing of the buck of blame to Dan Didio.

2) Since Darkseid's fall he has used new found knowledge of "knowhow" of the future and the Source's plan that he will soon try to make himself whole at the expense using "Infinity Man" to harvest the souls of the New Gods of the Fourth World to then merge the split Fourth World to create a Fifth World. Darkseid has pre-empted the Source plans by having the New Gods of Apokolips secretly leave their bodies and reborn their souls on earth in human bodies in without tipping off to their New God counterparts (the dudes and dudettes from "Hero City") and the Source.

Also, did you even realize that "Black Racer" is still alive and he was in the hospital recovering from injuries when Darkseid went after to acquire the "Anti-Life Equation" to prevent the "ragnorvak" from affecting him when it came? Black Racer also was the first of the New Gods to be killed by Darkseid.

Things have change because Darkseid knows how things played out in the first place so things are not as you thing it should... which is probably the reason why "Black Racer" is seemingly chasing the Flash, Bart Allen. Also, maybe the reason why Darkseid is using the "Anti-life Equation" differently instead selfishly! Because Darkseid the reason why Mr. Miracle becomes the embodyment of "Anti-Life Equation".

You guys need to stop listening to reviews and interviews to get the story and just borrow, rent, or buy the stories and read!

But the problem and I think that everyone here agrees with me is that you had to read about 2 years worth of stuff to fully understand whats going, meanwhile in Secret Invasion, you can jump into it and go "ok Skrulls are impersonating heroes."

Yeah its going to end badly and all that but it seems that SI is drawing in people with early action and will sticking out til the (crummy) end.

Whereas in FC people are 2 issues in and going "ThiZ IZ BALLZ!" and dropping it. Plus they are saying "WHo the &%*$ is megayakuza?! and why should I care?"

I really enjoyed the second issue, especially the second half. I think Final Crisis is going to do a slow build 'til its break, and the last half will be a stunner. That's fairly typical of Grant Morrison, and I'm willing to give him time.

Just finished the second one myself.

I am not sure I like the way this is being laid out. Ok, so things are happening but the book jumps so much that I feel I am reading the comic version of pulp fiction.

NEVER thought I would say this but I am actually enjoying Secret Invasion more and this is from the guy who loves the JLA/JSA crossovers. Why?

Because for this being a FINAL CRISIS, I just do not have any feeling of dread. Events are happening but the whole scenario is not presented in any way for you to feel that the heroes are truly up against insurmountable world shaking odds. Just finished the second one myself.

I am not sure I like the way this is being laid out. Ok, so things are happening but the book jumps so much that I feel I am reading the comic version of pulp fiction.

NEVER thought I would say this but I am actually enjoying Secret Invasion more and this is from the guy who loves the JLA/JSA crossovers. Why?

We'll I've read good reviews for #2. Nothing bad at least, like the first...

And I reread it, I understood it more. i just read through stuff too quick sometimes late at night.

It's definantly picking up though. This issue pretty much showed how Epic final Crisis will be, around the whole universe.

Plus I love how this is such a down to earth book. Not written and kiddy style drawn like secret Invasion..:P

Graphic and just seems real worldish.

You know thought the bad part is that PC might end better than Secret Invasion, cuz Marvel events end horribly whereas DC evebts have lasting effects.

So Im going to stay with it just for the payoff.

Well with these stellar reviews it cements my choice to not bother with this. I have a hard enough time knowing what's going on in the DCU. If you guys are only partially getting what's going on I'm sure I'd be just left going WTF.
