Subliminal images

I remember old Freddy W. saying "there are pictures within pictures... for children who know how to look," but does anybody ever notice artists getting sneaky and slipping something into a picture that hadn't-oughta be there?

I came up with one a couple of weeks ago -- there's a picture of The Flash that I came across, that shows his ... um... stuff quite clearly. Has anyone else seen that? It's in a 2009 issue of... some DC title. Let's make a contest out of it -- if anybody can find that picture in two weeks' time, I'll give that person some comics or something. First correct answer. And if nobody can find it, I'll post the "offending" image on my blog, at the end of the contest period.

Or maybe I'm just a perv...

superman memorial set

i dont exactly no what to look up and when i do look something up it has "2.0-9.2" idk what that means, anyone got any idea

DC Comics - Collecting 1982

A few years back on the old boards Mike Ballard announced he was collecting all Marvel's from the year 1960 and kept us all updated on his progress. I think he eventually finished?

I have decided to try something less ambitions and try for all DC's from 1982. Why 1982?

1982 was the year that I really discovered DC's in a big way having previously collected Marvel from 1978. I already have a good portion of them and they are still all inexpensive.

Rather than this just being a list of my new buys I am hoping this thread can become a flashback to the DC comics of 1982, discussing the artists, writers and storylines of the day, reminding us of those covers, sharing favourite characters and titles etc as well as discussing our 1982 collections.

If the thread takes off I will start a few for other years/companies as well.

To start us off here are is a checklist of all the DC newsstand comics cover dated 1982. Did I miss any? Also I need to check what promotional comics they put out in 1982 and will add these later.

Superman In Action Comics

I have some "Superman In Action Comics" issues, and I cannot find the title on ComicsPriceGuide.com.
The issue that I have in my hand at the moment, is from 1998, #18, and has a split cover - on top is Superman Blue (w/Sam Bradley & The Inkling).
On bottom is Superman Red.

Top left shows "#743, Apr 98.

Any idea why this title isn't listed? What's the value? Most of my comics were read and then stored in a box. Not folded, faded or crimpled. Near mint, if not mint.

I have a box of comics called Super A. They are copyrighted by warner educational services, with the characters copyrighted by dc comics.They also say Science Research Association Inc. A subsidiary of IBM. From what I gather they were printed to use in schools and never sold to the public. If anyone has any info for me on a value please let me know.

Keep or sell Green Lantern #76

I went threw my collection and found that I got a green lantern number 76. The only thing wrong that really runied my day was that someone at some point 3 ringed hole punch it like to stick it in a 3ring binder. What should I do with it. I hope it was ok to ask but I am really conflicted about if I should sell or keep it and I cant make up my mind I could really use some feed back

I have found a box that has not been opened of Topps made in Ireland Mfg, original deluxe reissue edition of Batman. Series 1, 2, & 3 ,1966 reissued in 1989, trading cards.There are 143 cards.
The descriptions are that in the sixties, Topps produced three series of hand painted trading cards.
The art work featured rendered paintings by Norm Sanders,& from pencil drawings by artist Bob Powell.
Using the original film negatives,the complete collection of 143 cards are reproduced on high gloss white card stock. Mostly of what I just said came off the box itself. lol

Any ideal about this from you #knowledgeable# people. are they rare,where do I find out anything about them? Thanks for reading the redkat

Trying to find a check list of comics in a storie's series

I was hoping someone could lead me in the right direction to find a complete list of comics and their tie in issues...I'm almost done collecting all the crisis on infinite earths tie in and infinite crisis tie ins. now i'm trying to do final crisis and the tie ins to the blackest night, but don't know where to begin. Any help would be appreciative. :)

DC continuity -- 25 years of retcon

DC has spent almost 25 years now tinkering with the history and coherence of their universe -- as a recently returned OG collector, what are the titles I need to come to terms with in order to get up to speed on the changes they've made? I guess the Crisis On Infinite Earths series was the first one... and it looks like they used Secret Origins Vol. 2 to plug up some minor holes... Is the Millenium series (and related crossover books) something I need to pay attention to? What others, between COIE and Blackest Night, have juggled all the 'facts' into new arrangements?

How can I tell which version I have? I have bought several copies when they came out around in 92 or so.. but haven't picked them up since. I wasn't aware that there is so many versions. I have gone on the CPG site but none of the pics that are shown show the color scheme that I have. ?? The Superman logo is yellow text with blue background. and what about the black bag? I haven't even opened them to know if they are different versions, and don't plan on opening.

DC's 75th Anniversary

It's the 75th anniversary of DC Comics.

Are they planning to do ANYTHING AT ALL about it.

If they don't, or if they leave it later in the year, it would be a disgrace.

But five months is such a short time and I have heard nothing whatosever yet.

Question about finding the value of a comic (Can't find the comic in the list)

Hello there,

I've got a "Year One Batman" 1995 Annual edition comic that I'd like to find a value for (and add to my collection). When I do a search in the Comic Price Guide's search, I can't find anything like this. The Issue is numbered 19, and it was $3.95 US when I purchased it. The cover shows a picture of Batman tied to a stake in a field with leaves blowing around him and grass on his costume. The designers were "Moench, Blevins, and Manley" according to the cover.

Any information about this issue will be greatly appreciated.

Does the 2nd cover exist or is that a pre-production cover they never ran with. Does anyone have both versions?

I was really excited when I first heard of this new weekly newspaper-sized series. I picked up #1 when it hit stores. I love the format! Unfolding it & holding it up, it brings me back to my childhood when I would digest the Sunday comics page. My beef with the series is the fact that it costs $4 an issue. I read the strips contained in #1, pushed away from the table, & let the experience sink in. While I appreciate the layout & the way the art panels take up the page, I just don't really feel like I'm getting the content for the money. At this rate, if I stuck with it for the 12 week run, I'm gonna blow $48 for complete stories in a format that I'm not even sure will survive the physical elements of time. Newspapers yellow badly over time. I'm only really interested in maybe four of the strips. So far, I've avoided the next three issues. I would love to see more of this kind of newspaper-strip type book in the future, but I would only be willing to pay maybe $2 an ish, if I'm only following certain strips. I'm interested to see how this series will be collected & sold as a trade. Would they shrink it down to a TPB sized book or release a massive newspaper sized slab? Anyone reading [b]Wednesday Comics[/b]? Opinions? Am I wrong or just a cheapskate?

Question About a Couple of Series

Was thinking about putting together runs of these series. The Saga of Swamp Thing/ Swamp Thing volume2 is 171 issues and Animal Man is the 1988 series that runs 89 issues. Both were early Vertigo books, thus my interest.

My question is, does anyone collect either of these series? I was curious how hard the books are to track down and are these bargain bin books or tough buys?

I only have one issue of the 2 series, Swamp Thing #37 (1st Constantine), so thought I would get some info before I started these.

If this question has been asked and answered before I apologize as I am new to the form scene although I have been collecting a long time.

As I was going through/re-organizing my books I came across a copy of DC Comics' Damage #12. It's the conclusion to the Fragments storyline and has a photo cover.

The picture of the kid/young man posing as Damage looks strikingly similar to actor Jeremy Piven of HBO's Entourage. :unsure:

Is it him? :dontknow:

The issue was out in early '96 so the picture was most likely taken a few months earlier around when he was 30.

Any info?

I have these really old, i'm talking 1993ish comics called the VCs (Vacuum Cleaners).

There was only 5 ever made by DC and they were about a group of army types killing aliens. Very Gears of War type stuff.

I've tried tracking them down to see if they have any value now but can't find them anywhere.

Any ideas would be great please!

DC Comics - Collecting 1989

I started work in 1986 and immediately started buying almost every DC title as it came out. Looking down the list of 1989 titles the only titles I passed by and had to pick up as back issues some years later were Beautiful Stories, Cops, Gilgamesh, Gregory, Kissyful, Score and Sgt Rock. I also could not afford any of the graphic novels and trades on my young mans salary.

I was 21 by 1989 and had never taken a break from comics since I started collecting in 1978 aged 10.

DC 1989 felt very different than DC 1982, quite a lot had happened in the 7 years since DC had become my favorite universe. We now had graphic novels and trade collections, and amazing Vertigo titles like Sandman and variant covers ramping up with Legends of the Dark Knight.

Highlights of reading in 1989 DC were Action Comics with Perez, Advanced Dungeons and Dragons (I was an avid player and loved the comic), Animal Man with Morrison, The launch of Legends of the Dark Knight, a beautiful and sexy Blackhawk relaunch, Black Orchid, the Catwoman mini, the fun Dr Fate, the Morrison Doom Patrol, El Diablo, Grell's Green Arrow, Hawk and Dove (I liked it), Hawkword although changing the continuity timeline drove me mad at the time, Hellblazer, Magic Wars in the Legion, L.E.G.I.O.N, Who is Wonder Girl and Perez back on Titans, The Question a classic, the Sandman launch, Skreemer one of the best comics ever.

Things I was less keen on in 1989 included Starlin and Aparo on Batman, the dreadful Blasters Special, Checkmate, Haywire, Hero Hotline, the Huntress series (I was still miffed Helena Wayne was gone), New Gods and Mister Miracle, The dreadful New Guardians, The Phantom, and The Power of the Atom which felt very dated at the time.

Teen Titans DC Giant #1

I have looked all over the price guide area and can not find the price for this. It is the DC Giant for Teen Titans and it is #1 in the Giants. it has 31660 or something like that on the cover. I actually have two of them. One is in really bad shape while the other is probably in fair or good condition. How do I find this comic?

I guess I should add the two that are combined are Monster Bait and Skis of Death.
