I also do not believe that a single team really needs multiple books. Keep it streamlined and I think everything flows better. I buy almost all of these books and A LOT are completely pointless (At least when it comes to the Marvel U as a whole). I would like to take this time to point out that I am aware that just because I have this slight obsession it does not qualify me to make this decision but despite my failings here is a list of those books I believe could be cut or at least condensed into a single title:
AMAZING SPIDER-GIRL
» ASTONISHING X-MEN
» BLACK PANTHER
» GHOST RIDER
» IRON MAN: DIRECTOR OF S.H.I.E.L.D.
» MARVEL ADVENTURES FANTASTIC FOUR
» MARVEL ADVENTURES SPIDER-MAN
» MARVEL ADVENTURES SUPER HEROES
» MARVEL ADVENTURES THE AVENGERS
» MOON KNIGHT
» MS. MARVEL
» PUNISHER WAR JOURNAL
» RUNAWAYS
» SHE-HULK
» WOLVERINE: FIRST CLASS
» WOLVERINE: ORIGINS
» X-MEN: FIRST CLASS
» X-MEN: LEGACY

I make this list completely independent of current teams working on the titles. My decisions are based purely on streamlining the Marvel U. Presumably the best teams would take over individual books. My one exception and personal decision is keeping New Exiles although pointless I love it.

RE: Question for all you Marvelites

!

RE: Question for all you Marvelites

It's funny, because I was just thinking today after reading X-men: Original Sin that Marvel has yet to have Wolvy, X-23 and his son, Daken, all grace the same page. So I drew this quick sketch http://chamber005.deviantart.com/ and titled it X Nuclear.

I think it would be pretty damn awesome if they eventually pulled out the more mainstream characters like Angel and Wolvy, and injected someone like Daken. Sort of like how prime-time shows will have a person with star power in the first season to get people interested and then move forward in the second season without them.

RE: Question for all you Marvelites

I think that X-Force has been a fantastic book so far, but I question it's longevity and it's use of 'main' characters like Angel and Wolverine. I think that the book would be more intersting with B-list characters kicking @$$ or as a 2 times a year mini series, which would not cluster up the 'Where's Wolverine" game so much.

Young X-Men is a bad book. Really, it's a million times worse than New X-Men. They should have kepy New X-Men for a while longer. It was a great read, had intersting charcters and the art was good. This new team (both creative and fictional) just don't cut it.

RE: Question for all you Marvelites

X-Force could be better... the art is too 'dark' for me, meaning I CAN'T SEE HALF THE S%^& THATS HAPPENING! No joke, 90% of pages are like deep black, I can't tell what the heck is supposed to be happening, action wise!

The other thing that turned me off was Archangel's return. C'mon, I joined the X-Factor wagon back in issue #24, thought it was a cool story, what happened... now they got Angel with blue skin and feathers (non-metal), Angel with blood that heals people (gay), and now the return of Archangel/ or is it he can turn his wings to metal and go Archangel mode? Yep, I'm confused. When these writers keep messing with characters, I lose a lot of interest. Villains are different, they need to be brought along to put up a good fight with superheroes, stagnated villains are boring. Superheroes, on the otherhand, shouldn't be messed with as much as, say, ARCHANGEL.

Anywho, the idea is good, I like a 'mutie wetwork team', especially Wolverine at the lead. Just needs better art and direction. (First mission: Off Pierce. For good. He hates muties the most, and Wolvie owes him big-time for his capture in Australia.)

RE: Question for all you Marvelites

People who are touting the cancellation of X-force and Young X-men are friggin NUTS. Those two books are the friggin future of the franchise! You MUST have a no-holds-bar X-title (X-force) and you MUST have an up-and-coming X-men title (Young X-men). Morphing either of these principles into a NEW title is fine (New Mutants to Generation X to NYX to New Mutants vol 2 to New X-men Academy X to Young X-men...) but the idea must continue to exist in the MU.

UXM and X-men are there to keep the mutant universe intact. I expect awesome stories, for sure, but those titles should feel like "home" (fighting for a world that hates and fears them), where books like Astonishing X-men, Young X-men, X-factor, Cable, Wolverine, Deadpool and X-force can be more risky -- risky because if it doesn't work, you can always kill off the characters or cancel the book and try-try again.

And make no mistake -- New Warriors is also an X-book. Nothing but mutants over there. Depowered though they may be.

Regardless, Secret Invasion has been a TREMENDOUS strain on my wallet. I've loved-loved-loved the storyline thus far, but, all-in-all, there are upwards of 100 different comics included in this epic. That's 300 (or more) dollars spent on a single story line!! :w00t:

I thought Onslaught was a tough storyline to afford!!

RE: Question for all you Marvelites

» AMAZING SPIDER-GIRL
» AMAZING SPIDER-MAN
» ASTONISHING X-MEN.........50-50 on this one
» BLACK PANTHER................CANCEL (After Secret Invasion)
» CABLE ............................CANCEL
» CAPTAIN AMERICA
» DAREDEVIL
» FANTASTIC FOUR
» GHOST RIDER....................CANCEL
» HULK
» INVINCIBLE IRON MAN.........50-50
» IRON MAN: DIRECTOR OF S.H.I.E.L.D. .......50-50
» MARVEL ADVENTURES FANTASTIC FOUR.....CANCEL
» MARVEL ADVENTURES SPIDER-MAN............CANCEL
» MARVEL ADVENTURES SUPER HEROES.........CANCEL
» MARVEL ADVENTURES THE AVENGERS.........CANCEL
» MIGHTY AVENGERS
» MOON KNIGHT...............CANCEL
» MS. I really can't sing the praises of X-factor enough. It features characters that I love, is written in a manner that causes me to laugh till my wife thinks I'm crazy, and at the same time makes the reader care for the characters.

Young X-men, X-force, and Cable are all carrying on different threads of Messiah Complex and are good reads. I feel the strain of so many X-titles each month on my comic budget, but I remind myself of other times. In the 90's the X-titles grew too many in number.

The list used to be:

Uncanny X-men, X-men v2, Cable, X-man, X-factor v1, X-force, X-men Unlimited, Generation X, Excalibur and 2 character based mini series at a time. It was too much and the bottom falls out and books got canceled.

I just want these books to be left alone, uncanceled long enough to tell the story. I'll understand when the day for axing them comes, but that time isn't now.

And one question, to the people wanting to cancel Ms. Marvel, have you read it? Its really good. I'm not saying its lighting the world on fire like walking dead, but its really good. It deals with a second tier hero, that knows shes a second tier hero. She gets into messes where eventually she will lose, the hero won't win.

RE: Question for all you Marvelites

You know for what it's worth, even though I cut them, I'm currently loving Cable and X-force. I think that without a doubt these titles are currently displaying the best writing/art that either title has ever seen. I'd actually be quite disappointed if either of these 2 titles were cut. My list is small enough right now... If I were to suddenly lose X-factor, X-Force, Cable & Young X-men, I'd be down to about 5-6 titles a month max.

RE: Question for all you Marvelites

keep

» AMAZING SPIDER-MAN
» ASTONISHING X-MEN
» BLACK PANTHER (w/ diff writer)
» CAPTAIN AMERICA
» DAREDEVIL
» FANTASTIC FOUR
» HULK
» INVINCIBLE IRON MAN
» MIGHTY AVENGERS
» MOON KNIGHT
» NEW AVENGERS
» PUNISHER WAR JOURNAL
» RUNAWAYS
» THOR
» UNCANNY X-MEN
» WOLVERINE

the young readers books are fine too

» MARVEL ADVENTURES FANTASTIC FOUR
» MARVEL ADVENTURES SPIDER-MAN
» MARVEL ADVENTURES SUPER HEROES
» MARVEL ADVENTURES THE AVENGERS

I didn't count ultimate books

RE: Question for all you Marvelites

Keep Em!!! (* I only read about 8 of these)
» AMAZING SPIDER-MAN
» ASTONISHING X-MEN
» CAPTAIN AMERICA
» DAREDEVIL
» FANTASTIC FOUR
» HULK
» INVINCIBLE IRON MAN
» MIGHTY AVENGERS <STRIKE>
</STRIKE>» PUNISHER WAR JOURNAL
» THOR
» UNCANNY X-MEN
» WOLVERINE
» X-FACTOR <STRIKE>
</STRIKE>» X-MEN: LEGACY

Love the Ultimate universe Keep Em!

» ULTIMATE FANTASTIC FOUR
» ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN
» ULTIMATE X-MEN

Kids line, keep em.

» MARVEL ADVENTURES FANTASTIC FOUR
» MARVEL ADVENTURES SPIDER-MAN
» MARVEL ADVENTURES SUPER HEROES
» MARVEL ADVENTURES THE AVENGERS

Dump Em!!!

<STRIKE>» AMAZING SPIDER-GIRL
» BLACK PANTHER
» CABLE
» GHOST RIDER
» IRON MAN: DIRECTOR OF S.H.I.E.L.D.
» MOON KNIGHT
» MS. If you are putting a half assed effort into a book or throwing a generic storyline out there I don't think you suddenly start seeing a difference. It's up to the artists and writers and the people doing the hiring.

The talent is out there and most of these books are capable of being well written/drawn. It's like a sports team, you can only blame management for the talent they put on the field. Whenever there is a thread about some title that is being canceled, to be honest it's usually a title I could not care less about, but you know what it's obviously someones favorite book which is why I am not a fan of cutting titles in general.

I'm a fan of cutting gimmicks, the more books the merrier, just get the proper people in place to make it happen. I really have to believe there is some better talent out there waiting to be given a chance, companies really seem to be scraping the bottom of the barrel many times and often you can tell a book is doomed to failure just by who they put on it and that can even be the case with the well known names.
RE: Question for all you Marvelites

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN(chill out on so many issues tho)
CAPTAIN AMERICA(sweet)
DAREDEVIL(sweet)
FANTASTIC FOUR(meh could be better)
HULK(gotta hava hulk series but just make it better)
INVINCIBLE IRON MAN(shorter iron man name)
MARVEL ADVENTURES FANTASTIC FOUR(kids)
MARVEL ADVENTURES SPIDER-MAN
MARVEL ADVENTURES SUPER HEROES
MARVEL ADVENTURES THE AVENGERS
MIGHTY AVENGERS(rename to something else)
MS.
