Questions for Quesada?

Hey guys,

A lot of us on this board share a certain distaste for what Joey Q. has done with our beloved Marvel Universe. I'm going to try to attend one of the panels he's on and ask him about this. I'm thinking of asking something like this but I'm open to suggestion for how to phrase it.

Q: Hi Joe, I have always believed that the main job of the Editor in Chief is assuring that all the titles flow seemlessly together to create a living breathing universe. I think one of the main knocks on your work over the years has been a deterioration of that feeling. We have had countless occasions where major events happen like World War Hulk in which New York is evacuated and all but destroyed. Meanwhile in most other titles this has no effect. This is causing a lot of dissapointment amongst the fans. Do you have any plans to work on this or is this part of your plan to not handicap writers but worrying about continuity?

Something like that anyway. I want to hear what he has to say. I'll film it and post it on youtube for you guys :)

why I should start picking up Marvel titles again? I stopped buying them well over a year ago, and frankly I dont think much has changed. I stopped picking them up because I thought the writing was poor and I couldn't justify supporting a company whom I thought could be doing much better by cutting the number of titles and concentrating on a core group. To me, alot of the titles were rehashes of the past and not very original. I know there a coulple good titles out there, but is marvel redeemable at all? How many titles does Wolverine have to be in anyhow?

I believe that by cutting the number of titles and concentrating on titles like UXM you would build a stroger base due to better writing and art. So can someone convice me? Go ahead......

Ultimate Origins

Wow...did anyone else pick this up?
I havent picked up anything with Ultimate in the title except Ult Spidey for quite some time now....FF just went too far out there for me to pick it up....Ult X-men got down right weird....and the Ultimates were given the Manga treatment with some sloppy story telling....

Last book i picked up that wasnt Spidey was Ult Human...and that was just OK in my book...
But i went ahead and picked up Ult Origins the other day since its leading into Ultimatum...the revamp event to jumpstart the Ultimate Universe out of its current slump....

must say i really liked this issue....and i love the take on alot of the characters and connections that they have to other characters that are pretty familiar from the Ultimate books...all in all a very good read. Wont give any spoilers myself...but if others that have read it feel the need............avast ye matey...and spoil away!

I was wondering if anyone has picked this up or has gotten a chance to thumb through it at their LCS. I am a fan of the Marvels mini and Earth X and could use some advice. I read somewhere that it is in-continuity and with some kind of big reveal. Not sure where I read this but will post it here when I find it again.

The reason I ask is because I'm afraid to pick up new Marvel books due to their relentless crap-attack on our pockets. With the exception of a few books, the crap Marvel is putting out is not worth the cover price of the books. Having dropped all Spiderman related books from my pull list, I now have some room to add what might be some decent reads with characters not seen in almost 60 years.

Also, if Bucky can com back from the dead, can't the original Human Torch or Toro or do so as well?

The only gripe i really had was that Logan was basically aged like a normal human...this was touched upon i think when they talked about his healing factor in the book....but nothing fleshed out....

But..
I am kind of reserving my final voice about the book till i hear some feedback about what others liked/disliked. Just to see if I was being to hard/easy on this book.

Seems like every post I see is complaining about Spider-man. I haven't read any Spidey comics in like 25 years, so I have no idea what's doing. Any one care to do a quickie update? What's with MJ? What's Brand New Day? What's the difference between all the various Spider-man comics I see in the LCS? Is it really all that terrible?

What's with the continuity?

How many titles does wolverine and cyclops have to be in?
Wait for it . . . . 70 cagillion. Well, it does not necessarily
bother me, but basically no marvel title has any continuity.
That is what bothers me. Is this like this for any other publisher?
What is the management at marvel thinking? This is not how
you keep your customers buying your comics. Also, I know
this is happening in Captain America, Spider-man, Daredevil, and
Hulk series too. Is there more?

I believe that most of you would agree with me when I say that, for the most part, most of the Marvel storylines have been less then stellar. Agreed? Good. That being said I wonder how it would be if marvel were to concentrate on core books and really start generating some quality material. My question to you is what titles would you cut in order to accomlish this? If you were the "Man in Charge" (or women) at Marvel which titles would you give the axe?

Mighty Avengers #15

So this is pretty much another filler book of backstory on the whole how did they do the switcheroo with Hank Pym. I enjoyed the read quite a bit especially a fairly realistic take on the problems with Hank and Janet's marriage and this sudden British hottie taking him in.

What I didn't like was how easy he got taken out. The guy's a serious veteran who's fought just about everyone in the Marvel U at some point and he went down easy. The other thing I am wondering about, is he dead? He looked kind of dead in the panel where she smashes him. It wouldn't be above Bendis to axe a random Marvel character like that so it may be. If so I'm pretty saddened by it. The guy is an original Avenger FFS.

I did LOVE the classic cover though. I think that's Avengers 217 or thereabouts without going into the vault and looking.

or is this one of the worst written books ever? I know it's been awhile since the last issue, but I had no idea what the hell was going on. The story seemed to jump every 3rd page to another character without any refrence of why they were they or what they were doing.

Am I an idiot, or was this really a big,stinking pile of crap like I think?

Didnt have a chance to read my books Wednesday night....

Just got done, and i must say...there were 2 books from Marvel that really stood out....one of them was Incredible Herc......this book is just plain good...i cant belive that it keeps shedding readers like it is ( according to sales figures )...and this being a SI tie-in was really enjoyable. The reveal of a Skrull Traitor with them was kinda cool and just unexpected as to who/what it was....

The talk/fight with Nightmare was really well done.....I havent seen Nightmare written as well as he was here in a long time if ever.....hes not one of my fav. characters.......but his use here made sense as where anywhere else hes written in to a story hes just filler till next issue....Kudo's to Pak...alot of unexpected moments in the book...and alot of the humor that has become common place (and well written as well) for this book is just as fresh as the day Herc. took over the book.
Highly Recommended.

New Avengers #41

So this issue mostly focused on Ka-Zar and Shanna's view of the events of the past while. It felt like a bit of a filler issue and it mostly served Bendis' point of being able to say "Hey look I've been planting this stuff for years!" by having it turn out the SHIELD agents from the first arc of the New Avengers were in fact Skrulls.

Funny part to me is that Ka-Zar and Sheena never thought they should really mention it to any of their many super hero friends in all that time. I guess they just got busy taking care of Zabu or something.

So it didn't really move the plot along more other than to show that Skrulls are indeed everywhere. Most of the tie in books so far haven't really done too much or made them essential reading. You could definitely just stick to the mini-series I'm thinking.

I'll be blunt. Whedon and Cassady should have stopped with Issue #12.

With that said, the issue wasn't that bad. In fact it tied up most loose ends alright, and ended the far to long story arc. It was definitly better then Final Crisis #1, and overall wasn't that bad. However, after all the hype whedon and Cassady have had, I really don't think they cared much for these final few issues of Astonising X-men, and really would have been thought of with much kinder thoughts had they quit with issue #12. Essentialy though, their really wasn't any suprises, and the story played out pretty much like I expected it to. Not great, not horrible, just ok.... but I'm happy to ave a new creative team on the title now, and I'm looking forward to issue #25.

Seriously, why aren't more people reading this book? I'm loving the deeper then normal comic story this book has. Yes, the concept is cheesy "12 Heros from 1942 are captured by Nazis and are drugged then placed in Cryogenic sleep, until the Nazis can find a way to extract their powers and use them." Of course as any history book tells you Nazis lost. "So the Heros are awoken from their sleep after being found some 60 something years later, to find the world they know is either gone or changed dramitcally."

That's where the fun begins with great backstories for the characters, deep thought provoking revelations by the heros of old awaken to this new world, where their family are dead, old and resentful, or in their regular time period (the one from 'future') but it's not the way it should have been.

They do a great job conveying emotions in this comic. I love the way they make these heros feel real and that this comic is plausible if the world had heroes this is the trails they would have.

Like Rockman a supposed King of a lost underground civilization is truly a Cole minor who lost his family during the Coal mines collapses that engulfed the mining town, including his wife and daughter. The fumes from said collapses had some other chemical in them giving him near-invunerable ability. After years of denial he slips into a psycotic-snap which he believes his whole family is from an underground civilization that one day he will find a way to be with them again.

After his great grand niece contacts the general who watches over the heroes and shows him the picture of the Real Rockman, he gives her the cold shoulder saying "No thats not him". The Soldier there with him asks why he would lie, stating the picture does look alot like him.

"Because even if it was true, would you rather know everyone you loved is gone and never coming back, or live with the idea, the hope that one day you will meet them again?"

I've been reading this comics since issue 1 and it just keeps getting better, great book I just hope there are others who are enjoying this book too. If not I hope this at least gets a few people to check out this very deep comic, with one of the best ongoing stories I've read in a long time.

Secret Invasion: Who Do You Trust?

Any thoughts on this one shot. ? I enjoyed the Beast And Wonder Man Story. I still hoping the Beast turns out to be a Skrull. And the Beast in the one shot is the real deal.

The other stories were ok. The Captain Marvel Storyline filled in a gap.

And I liked the Agents of Atlas had an appearance.

In issue Amzing Spider-Man #563, look on the third page at the panel where he's webbing the guy in the face who's trying to hit him with a bottle. The bottle is called Brand Echh and Spidey say's "Sorry pal, that's not my brand." This is a reference to Not Brand Echh!, a Marvel title from the late 60's. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Not_Brand_Echh

Anyone psyched for True Believers? Being an old Flash fan I'm looking forward to the return of Cary Bates to comics (He wrote the Flash for like 500 years or something). I always thought he was really good at writing the kind of comics that you could follow if you just picked up a single issue, but would get even more out of if you followed along from month to month. It's my favorite kind of comics writing.

Is anyone on the board reading this? I just picked up the new format of #'s 1, 2 & 3. I really dig this. It has some very dark stories. I think they are stand alone but related somehow.

I haven't heard anyone talk about this book. My LCS owner recommended it and I'm glad he did. I have since added it to my pulls.

Did anyone hear about the new arc about a new character, Anti-Venom, being introduced in the summer for Spider-Man?

John Romita Jr. will be back on Amazing, funny thing is he announced this last summer that he would be back on Spider-Man.

I don't understand why MJ is on that pic, and with JRJR's familiar art it almost looks like brand new day will come to an end but since Slott will be writing it I doubt it.

God I hate BND, not only is it bad enough spidey's history is all ruined but why did they bring back the whole dialog from the old books as well. It makes me feel like i'm a 5 year old, it is just so ackward reading those writing devices in a current series and not a flashback.

I wonder if the error was in the original avengers 2... where Rick jones says the hulk has to turn into Doctor Donald Blake, which was Thors alter ego.

Also Space Phatoms power shunts the person he is imperosonating off world to limbo... so when he was impersonating Spider Man in beyond.. spiderman was really in limbo.. now that can explain away the demasking and even the mephisto stuff.

Also on page hat when Rick jones is introducing himself to the hulk, I so wanted to read him say "I'm Rick Jones b*&#^"

I just got my monthly shipment of comic books, and I know that King Size Hulk has two variant covers, but my copy has both of them stapled on the same comic, one after another. Did anyone else get something like this?

Alrighty, if anyone is reading Secret Invasion and you are old enough to remember Mockingbird, who was Hawkeyes wife, was killed in West Coast Avengers #41 or somewhere around there I think. That was back in 1989 I believe.

Anyways, in Secret Invasion, shes back and tells Hawkeye that she's only been gone for a couple of years. Its been almost 20 years in our time, so is it safe to assume that 20 years in Marvel time equals 2 in ours?

So a typical Marvel Week goes like this:

House of M was on Mon - Tues, Civil War was from Wed - Thurs, Captain America was killed Thursday afternoon, World War Hulk was on Friday, Brand New Day started Friday night, and Secret Invasion rounds out the week from Sat - Sun!!

Does that sound about right?

Anyone else try out this new one from Marvel's new Soliel imprint? The story/writing were solid, but the art was awesome!I heard one reviewer mention a similarity to Dr. Suess, which I can see.

I'd reccommend it to anyone wanting to try out a little something different.Pitt the Cat, I think you especially would enjoy this one.

The only drawback is the cover price was, I think $6.

I have recently come across a LARGE amount of comics (probably a few hundred) that I seemed to have moved form place to place that belonged to my brother.

I am in need of some sort of way to price them out to see if there is anything of worth or should they just be tossed?!?!

I have no idea what's in any of these bins but they are way too heavy to push around the garage any longer and my husband is about ready to use them as kindling for our Chiminea.

Is there anyone out there that can offer a helping hand?

Adding to the excitement for some of its hottest upcoming titles, Marvel Comics has announced special variant editions with Secret Invasion-style covers featuring Skrully versions of some of the publisher’s brightest stars!

The new Skrully variants are similar to the ones seen on Captain Marvel #4, Young X-Men #1 and others. Retailers will be permitted to order one copy of each variant for every 10 copies of the regular edition ordered.

what is going on with cyclops on that 2 page spread near the end of the book. 1. i am not sure the human body has that many muscles 2. no vein in the body is as thick as a water hose. ... i wouls still rather look at this art than JRJ crap but man tone down the muscles every now and then
