Do yall know what it is worth. It is not in a plastic cover or anything like that. I would say it is in pretty good condition but not perfect. Can anybody estimate its worth?

I recently purchased this comic because it looked cool and rare. It is in decent shape, printed 1982, and is in French. The comic consist of three different stories; X-Men 101, the Defenders, and Nova. I was able to find some information on STLComics site but not much. Can someone tell me where I could find more information and a possible value for this comic?

Identify these Marvel coins, please.

While I was cleaning out my closet this week, I stumbled upon a box full of my old comics and Hot Wheels. At the bottom of this box, I found a smaller box, 4x4x2" with these 4 coins sitting in them.

They are gold(in color), have a nice weight to them, the three Marvel coins are produced by AMC, the Darryl Strawberry one is made by BANDAI. Marvel coins were stamped year 1987, Darryl was stamped 1990.

Face side of Marvels feature the character, in my case Captain America, Incredible Hulk, and The Amazing Spider-Man. Then on the tail side has Cartoon Celebrities ontop, some sorta logo in the middle. Can't seem to find any information on these coins. Only thing I found was one coin from Marvel's Adventure City Niagara Falls, but this doesn't look anything like it. Pics are below, I also uploaded uneditted ones for better detail. Whats up everyone! I've been picking up a lot of new comics, and since most are Marvel (I also pick up GL from 'that other company', but I won't go there;)) I've decided to post a weekly message on what I think is the good, the bad, and the ugly in my favorite universe.:w00t:

Lets start off this week with 'Doctor Voodoo', the dude that replaced one of my favs as Sorcerer Supreme in the MU.

Was Jericho ever a 'doctor'? I know he's a shaman, or priest, something like that, and while I'm not totally familiar with the character, calling him 'doctor' is kind of stretching it. :doze: I'm not totally averse to changing things up, but I can't get behind a wannabe doctor. Keeping the name 'Brother Voodoo' would've been cool, no need to rip off another characters name (or parts thereof). Who knows, maybe the next title to come out will be 'Brother Strange'... Stephen can sport some gold chains since he doesn't have The Eye of Agamotto anymore. Word. :D

Haven't felt the need to pick up Astonishing X-men since collecting again, but the latest story looks to be promising... and who can pass up The Brood? Yep, another title added to my pull-list. (Who knows, maybe Frost can get impaled and Wolverine can put her out of her and my misery. The one character that shouldn't be an X-Man as far as I'm concerned.)

Hulk has been a decent read, but getting tired of waiting to see who the 'Rulk' really is... GET ON WITH IT ALREADY!! And now we have a 'She-Rulk'... who didn't see that coming? (Answer: Me. I honestly didn't think about it, despite Marvel's penchant for making 'Lady This' and 'Lady That' lately. THANK GOD 'Lady Rulk' is too stupid to use.) (Message to Brubaker: Oh King of Offing Characters, make yourself useful and off Lady Bullseye. And Lady Mastermind. And Lady Sinister [or whatever the hell shes called]. Matter of fact, have Lady Deathstrike do it, she can get tired of all the 'Ladies' running around and show everyone that originality counts for something.:guilty: )

Thats it for now, stop by next week for more ranting, raving, mind-bending diatribes...

Hi folks, new to the forum, but a 40+ year comics reader and collector.

My primary job is standup comedy, with some fight directing and acting mixed in here and there, but my passion is art and comics.

I've recently started a series of art pieces that owe a LOT to X-Men #1 in all its permutations, but I've got several questions that are proving to be nigh-impossible to get clear answers for. Any help from this forum would be greatly appreciated!

1) Just how many copies were sold? I've read accounts that range from 5 million to 8 million copies, but that's a huge margin of error. Where can I pin it down? None of the distributors seem to have any online records of sales before '96.

2) Is there any sort of breakdown as to how many of each version was sold? Direct market distribution seems to have been the way of the world then as well, but how many copies were sold on newsstands? And did the usual returns rate apply? (I've read that about 75% of all comics sales were direct to shops, and that 2/3 of all newsstand copies are returned for credit.) It would seem likely that more of the #1-E (deluxe gatefold) sold than the other single issues, but its higher price might have negated that...

3) Are all those copies still out there? I mean even allowing for little brothers, aggressive pets, spillage of beers or bong water, and stupid, stupid burglars, there would still be millions of copies out there in dark, lonely places. Does anyone know of any mass recyclings? There are bound to have been boxes of these that ended up burned, flooded, or sold from storage spaces.....but is there any way to figure out what's left?

4) Do you have any stories of excess enthusiasm for its resale potential? We've all read of the guy who pre-ordered 5000(!) copies for himself, but does he really exist? Does he post on this forum? Anybody want to rat him out, or a similarly deluded buddy? I don't want to shame anyone, we all got caught up in early '90s frenzy of quick returns. Hell, I sold less than a hundred fairly new comics in June of '93 (X-Force #1, Uncanny X-Men in the #240-290 era, Dark Knight Returns, etc) for about $800. The same comics were worth about $100 by fall..... Did over-investment in X-Men #1 actually cost anyone their store?

5) Would I be remiss to claim that X-Men #1, in its own record-breaking way, may have helped lead to Marvel's '93 bankruptcy? There was rampant speculating in the market sales back then, with a lot of blame to be spread around, but when 5 (or 6, or 7, or 8....) million copies go out and maybe, MAYBE 10% of them were opened and read, a lot of comics did no one any good......and would likely sour one from any more risky mass purchases....

6) Do you personally have a box, or 2, or 50 in your basement? And what breakdown of A-E's?

Thanks for any help you might be able to give, these answers will form the basis for my next comedy/art project.

Marvel Comics - Collecting 1982

Last year I started the 1982 DC thread and thought it was time we took at look at Marvel's in 1982. As we start 1982 I am a Marvel Zombie collecting both the UK and US distributed titles. By the time we hit '82 the uk price variants had ended and duel US/UK pricing on issues had been introduced. The volume of Marvel's black and white weekly reprints dwindled in '82 and Marvel switched focus in the UK from Super-hero titles to targeting younger readers with titles like Rupert, Kim and Scooby-Doo.

By the summer my passion had changed from Marvel to DC. Titles like Team America, Time Bandits and Marvel Two in One seeming less sophisticated than the Great Darkness Saga running in Legion of Super-Heroes and the Wolfman/Perez New Teen Titans. It was not all over for Marvel. I was still a big Avengers fan.

I remember going to the comic shop and not being able to afford both Wolverine 1 and Hercules 1 and eventually settling for Hercules (oh well). I still don't own the Wolverine limited series and need to correct that.

Favourite Marvel titles back in 1982 were the UK Captain America magazines, Avengers, Conan (I traded those away in the 90's and want them back damn it), Dazzler, Defenders, Hercules (it was the Layton art), Micronauts (I loved this), Power Man (I have no idea why I loved this), Rom (Also traded away in the 90's). I was not much into X-Men until 1983 so most of my 1982 issues were purchased as back issues later on.

Daredevil #168 - Should I buy?

I have the opportunity to get this comic for $40, and I'm not sure if it would be a smart investment. The grade is a questionable 8.0 - 9.0 and I am not too good at grading anyways. So what would you do?

marvel continuity

Marvel hasn't put as much energy into switching things around with retcon-ing as DC has, but their universe has had some alterations since its naive & uncomplicated beginnings. What are the essential titles to bring an old-time collector up to speed on post 1980 developments? I've seen hints at an overview/reorganizing of Marvel's universe in a book called Conspiracy, and in Marvels Project that's coming out now -- any others? Civil War, obviously (I guess...), that's one I have yet to tackle.

Hello all. Recently, an opportunity to purchase this issue of Silver Surfer (at a very reasonable price) has popped up, and although I have done my own research on this, I can't find out much about how this issue is supposedly "low distribution" and, therefore, far more valuable than any of the other issues 2-10 (#1 naturally being the most valuable if it's in decent condition).

If anyone here has some detailed information on why #4 is listed at $600 for 9.4 condition when all the issues around it don't even top $300 in value, I would greatly appreciate you sharing it with me.

Psylocke and Revanche Question

I just finished reading Uncanny X-Men #508 and I have a question about who's who. When Spiral went to Tokyo, who's body did she steal? Kwannon's or Betsy Braddock's? And I've been trying to figure out how these two characters came to be? Would someone mind explaining it to me? When Betsy Braddock's mind was put into Kwannon's body, did Kwannon's mind get put in Betsy's body? So has the Psylocke I've been reading about been a Betsy in the body of the Japanese woman Kwannon? So does that mean the body Spiral stole was just the original British body belonging to Betsy? I'm confused...

Is it possible for you guys to determine edition on these babies just by looking at this image? I'm looking to buy the Spider-Man, X-Men (still shrink-wrapped) and the bottom left Sub-Mariner (still shrink-wrapped as well) and was suggested buying all three for $70 including shipping. I just wanna know if I'm overpaying on these. I do want them, but not running around like crazy looking.

Ideas?

As many of you know, I am an avid collector of all things X-men. I have a full run of X-men v2, but have been tracking down the variants lately.

My question is, does issue #1G actually exist? I've searched and searched and have never seen one. Does anyone have a copy? The scan posted in the guide has no identifying marks, so I've been checking print info in a ton of books, but no "Second Printing" indacia have shown up.

I was putting away a bunch of captain America comics I just got at a garage sale and I came across #156 and thought thats a cool cover opened it up and started reading it and couldnt put it down! holy crap it was good.I didnt know sharon had been around that long?I have been reading cap for the last 10 years only new stuff but wow this story was great.I recomend it if you like the new stuff .This story could be a good way for marvel to bring cap back ?lol

I have 0 experience with this type of stuff but I looks at the grading thing and I would put them at a 7.0 I guess. There is nothing major wrong with them at all. You can see the spines are curled up a bit. I can put them in between some heavy books and they will probably flatten.

Daredevil and Spidey are neck in neck for me in terms of my two favourite classic Marvel characters. Brubaker's run though has really knocked it out of the park in terms of quality of writing so for me DD has been in the lead for a while. This final arc Brubaker has done was really one of the best pieces I've read in years. Bringing back the Kingpin in a slightly more original approach than normal. Getting the Owl involved, Dakota North, Tarantula, the Hand. It really all came together in the final issue of the arc. And the shocker of the end with Matt taking over as leader of the hand was just great.

It actually felt like it made sense on some level. DD has nothing to live for and so gives in to the dark side so to speak by joining them. What will be curious is if he's actually going to be killing people/approving of the Hand killing people. That will be a major departure for the character and maybe too much to believe. Brubaker did say he was going to hand it over to Diggle with it in very bad shape for him to write his way out of.

Anyone else check this? DD's readership has been so low I am a little concerned it'll drop further with Brubaker off the book, as he has his own fan base who read whatever he writes.

X-Men #47 currently priced at $25 (the image below is the actual book). I'm in the process of putting in a big order from this LCS, and might have leverage down to roughly $10 on this book. What do you think? What kind of cash would the grade of the book justify?

Punisher max ongoing story

Anyone reading Punisher Max series? Its been really good .I just finished this weeks issue Frank is such a bad *** .I cant say I am crazy about the cartoon style art in them lately .I liked the more gritty real life tim brad street style art .I heard a rumor that sales were down and they may cancel this series .If so that would make me sick .Punisher Max is about the only book I like to read.
