Blechh. Did anyone else read this and feel totally underwhelmed? (If underwhelmed isn't a real word it should be created for this issue.) Man, I just felt so let down by this comic. I was really looking forward to it, and from everything I've heard recently, Grant Morrison is supposed to be a great writer, but this thing was so disjointed and flat, it seemed like it was written by committee.
There were a bunch of incongruities and strangely handled elements in the issue. The weirdest thing for me was how shocked all the super heroes were by the death of Orion. I mean, didn't DC just put out a whole limited series called Death of the New Gods? And weren't New Gods dying in the way-too-long Countdown to Final Crisis weekly?
What a bummer, I really thought this was gonna be a kick *** comic. The only parts I really liked were the stone age bits at beginning and end. There's a pretty good review of it here: http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=user_review&id=139. I pretty much agree with everything this fellow has to say, unfortunately.
I really hope number 2 is better.
