I believe that most of you would agree with me when I say that, for the most part, most of the Marvel storylines have been less then stellar. Agreed? Good. That being said I wonder how it would be if marvel were to concentrate on core books and really start generating some quality material. My question to you is what titles would you cut in order to accomlish this? If you were the "Man in Charge" (or women) at Marvel which titles would you give the axe?

Here is the full list of titles according to Marvel.com:

» AMAZING SPIDER-GIRL
» AMAZING SPIDER-MAN
» ASTONISHING X-MEN

That's far from a complete list. Off the top of my head missing ones include: Punisher, Marvel Comics Presents, and Squadron Supreme.

» AMAZING SPIDER-GIRL > Cancel
» AMAZING SPIDER-MAN
» ASTONISHING X-MEN
» BLACK PANTHER
» CABLE > Cancel
» CAPTAIN AMERICA
» DAREDEVIL
» FANTASTIC FOUR
» GHOST RIDER
» HULK > I won't canel it, but I'd certainly make it a better read
» INVINCIBLE IRON MAN
» IRON MAN: DIRECTOR OF S.H.I.E.L.D. > we don't we two Iron Man titles
» MARVEL ADVENTURES FANTASTIC FOUR > I'd keep these; good reads for younger kids
» MARVEL ADVENTURES SPIDER-MAN
» MARVEL ADVENTURES SUPER HEROES
» MARVEL ADVENTURES THE AVENGERS
» MIGHTY AVENGERS
» MOON KNIGHT > canceled
» MS. MARVEL
» NEW AVENGERS
» NEW EXILES > meh... I'd probably cancel it. It's not as good as it used to be...
» PUNISHER WAR JOURNAL
» RUNAWAYS
» SHE-HULK > canceled, but Ilike the character so she'd end up elsewhere
» THOR
» THUNDERBOLTS
» ULTIMATE FANTASTIC FOUR > canceled
» ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN > canceled
» ULTIMATE X-MEN > canceled
» UNCANNY X-MEN
» WOLVERINE
» WOLVERINE: FIRST CLASS > canceled
» WOLVERINE: ORIGINS > canceled
» X-FACTOR
» X-FORCE > turn into a mini-series twice a year as to not conflict w/ other X-titles
» X-MEN: FIRST CLASS > mmm.... same as above and if it didn't do well, I'd cancel it
» X-MEN: LEGACY
» YOUNG X-MEN > Cancel

Also...

Nova and Guardians of the Galaxy are keepers.

Punisher > After Ennis, I'd cancel it. It will never be the same after him.

Marvel Comics Presents > I'd keep it, but double the size and ship every other month.

The Initiative > keep it going for a while longer

I'd cancel the entire Ultimate line and put the talent on the mainstream books. I'd keep the entire line contained to a single universe for a solid year (no time hoping or other dimensions).

Here's What I'd Keep and Focus on first and Foremost:

» AMAZING SPIDER-MAN
» ASTONISHING X-MEN
» CAPTAIN AMERICA
» DAREDEVIL
» FANTASTIC FOUR
» HULK
» INVINCIBLE IRON MAN
» MIGHTY AVENGERS
» NEW AVENGERS
» PUNISHER WAR JOURNAL
» THOR
» ULTIMATE FANTASTIC FOUR
» ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN
» ULTIMATE X-MEN
» UNCANNY X-MEN
» WOLVERINE

I think most people would agree with this list, And Although I personally Like X-Force and X-factor and think they are good books, I went ahead and cut them along with other books I've heard about (Moon Knight, etc).

Honestly I don't think cutting titles is a guarantee for improved quality on the core books. If you are putting a half assed effort into a book or throwing a generic storyline out there I don't think you suddenly start seeing a difference. It's up to the artists and writers and the people doing the hiring.

The talent is out there and most of these books are capable of being well written/drawn. It's like a sports team, you can only blame management for the talent they put on the field. Whenever there is a thread about some title that is being canceled, to be honest it's usually a title I could not care less about, but you know what it's obviously someones favorite book which is why I am not a fan of cutting titles in general.

I'm a fan of cutting gimmicks, the more books the merrier, just get the proper people in place to make it happen. I really have to believe there is some better talent out there waiting to be given a chance, companies really seem to be scraping the bottom of the barrel many times and often you can tell a book is doomed to failure just by who they put on it and that can even be the case with the well known names.
