So, I am in a little financial pinch and am going to be selling off some comics at Wizard World and have never done it before, so I'm looking for some pointers.

The goods: About 100 Silver Age comics - Doctor Strange 169-182, Tales of Suspense 95-99, Tales to Astonish 97-101, Captain America 101-108, Iron Man 1-7, Fantastic Four 68-115, various Batman, Detective, Daredevil, Thor, Strange Tales, plus 80 Page Giant #12

The condition: varies - I'm no grader (and here is a lot of the problem) but they are from Very Good to Very Fine - The FFs are actually pretty nice.

The questions:

1) Do I sell them as a whole bunch? Obviously the prime picks are Iron Man #1, The 80 Page Giant, Doctor Strange 169, Fantastic Four 100 and others...

2) Do I shop them everywhere? Do I tell the dealers that?

I know they are going to say, "What do you want for them"..

3) Do I need a price going in?

The end game: I do need to sell these and I only have Friday to do it. A thousand bucks would make me feel better about my situation, but I want to maximize the deal.

I need a lot of advice - if any of you have sold at places like this, I could really use your help.

Thanks,

Justin

I'm sorry to say that the lot of books you've got won't get you $1,000 in Chicago. If they are in the VG, many dealers won't want them at all. Remember, VG Marvel books often go for 30-40% of guide. If that is fair market value, what do you think a dealer is going to want to pay? About 20-30% of fair market value. You are probably just as well to put them on eBay and save the convention ticket. That is, unless you want to go to the show to have fun as well!

Well if they pay 30% of 40% - 12% of guide, that gets me $1100. I'll take that. I suppose I will just check out a couple of the bigger dealers and offer $1500 for the lot and negotiate from there. The Iron Mans should sell.

They ususally buy CHEAP at Wizard.  Unless you have some super high grade rare stuff they basement bid that stuff....

I've seen some real cheap *** dealers.  And I've seen peopel still sell to the dealer for the cheap price.

Gater I think you misunderstood what King was saying. They will sell at 30 - 40% of guide value for their condition (VG to whatever) but you will only be able to realize at best 20% of guide value for their condition (VG to whatever.) So if 9.2 guide is $55 and VG is $12 and a dealer will only give you 20% for it then you are looking at $2.40. Averaging $10 per comic for Marvel Silver age in lots of 100 with no real Key issues (Iron Man is NOT a key and in NO WAY scarce.) then you would be accomplishing something. The Captain America issues are missing the best bets (100 & 109) but if they are in very decent shape you could get some money for them but still you wont right a sinking financial ship with comics.

Where does he get those wonderful toys!

I have yet begun to surrender.
