I still say we go by decades when possible...

20's-'49 - Platinum

50-59 - Gold

60's Silver

70's Bronze

80's Copper

90's - Iron

2000's - Modern (soon to be tin, or maybe the "Ultmate" or "Movie" age)

2010-2020 - Soon to be modern

Now obviously not everything always fits well within these nice and tidy 10 year time frames, but looking back, (at least as far as the x-books go) this would work well.  1963-1969 was pretty much an era, the 70's brought the all new all different team and a new era, the 80's again saw major revisions, which again can be seen in the 90's.  Finally, the 2000's saw alot of books really grow up more in terms of art and story telling, which to me signals another age.  If that isn't as close to a definition of different ages then I don't know what is.  This line of reasoning would also transfer quite easily across titles as I'd be willing to bet that other posters could fit their favorite books into this same structure.  Finally, this makes it nice and simple for everyone to keep track of when the ages would more or less change, or at least be transitioning, because realistically anytime from X8 - X3 could be a transition time and the age would like change during that point.

I think the 90s could be reffered to as the 'clone age'  or possibly 'Somehow Spawn is the most popular character, when he's poorly written but the arts decent and ironically Todd Mcfarlane buys Mark Mcguires home run ball which is destined to drop in price like Spawn#1 will age'  or the 'holofoil age'  which I actually like, no need to keep messing around with the metals, that just seems kind of stupid, especially considering comics are due for many more multiple ages anyways.

I always think of the bronze age and least the early part as the Silver Age.  I think the whole inane labeling of ages is way to much opinion based to mean anything.  I look at a .12 cent Marvel and think, ohhh thats an old comic, I look at a .35 cent Marvel and think, oh thats an old comic.  Aside from the two extra h's  in oh, not much changes.  How about this for a new age breakdown.

pre normal .12 cent price age

WOW, that is a really old comic, I can't believe that thing cost 10 cents when it came out, MAN how old is that comic!?! age

.12-.35 cent price age

oh cool that comic must be really old, why is 'insert adjective' man drawn with seemigly no genitals under his costume? age

.40-1.00

oh cool, comic books... age

1.25-......

oh cool, Wolverine's in the comic too age

....makes as much sense to me at least

platinum: anything before Action comics #1

golden: 1938-1957

silver: 1958-1969

bronze: 1970- 1979

copper: 1980-1997

modern: 1998-2008

I say change copper to 'fools gold' age and the modern to copper, and everything 2008-up is the modern age.....lol
