If a comic has a slight bend in it I will press it with two heavy books..Place it between both of them and allow it to naturally flatten out.

I guess if it's got huge spinal roll and it's flattened it might effect the price but doing what I do every so often I don't think effects the price at all.

"Pressing" in this context refers to a book being inserted into a dry mount heat press. The press tends to be heated at around 175-200 degrees. Pressing won't help some books at all, but generally speaking it will help most books (some more than others). Pressing diminishes the visibility of creases, surface wear such as thumbnail creases, humidity damage/warping etc. Water can also be used in the process to help remove certain defects more effectively.

Pressing is the subject of probably the biggest debate in the hobby. Some people hate it, some people don't care. Some consider it resto, and some don't (CGC doesn't consider it resto). I am on the side that doesn't care, and doesn't consider it resto.

I agree with King. I don't care about pressing. It's like this... there's no "for" and "against" it's really "those that don't care" and "against".

Either way, if the a book can benefit from being pressed then so be it. I don't care if people are doing it simply for profit either.

I personally don't have a problem with pressing either, as long as it doesn't damage the book in the process. If you do some google searches you can find out quite a bit of information and opinions on the matter.

I guess the only valid argument I have seen is we don't really know what the long term effect is going to be on the comics that were pressed. Maybe this is a red herring maybe it isn't.

So how can you tell by looking at a book if it's been pressed? Does it show some type of sign?

Thanks

From what I have read, unless it is a completely amature job, there is no way to tell if a book has been pressed by a machine,as opposed to just being pressed by being stacked for years.

Interesting stuff...  I'd fall into the category that doesn't care either.  I really don't see much difference between this and sticking a book in a full long box thats tightly packed and letting it sit for years.  Either way you're going to get similair results.

I don't really care, but it should be disclosed.
