....Avengers: Children's Crusade #4 is selling for upwards of $20.00 on ebay ? Did it have a low print run, first appearance of a character, or what. I can't find any info on this.

My guess? That because it takes so long for Heinberg to finish anything and the very good reviews the series is getting there have been readers coming on to the series and the previously ordered volumes cannot cope with the upswing in demand. Once a modern books starts getting decent profit in a few week or so then it fuels even more price bumps as people not only speculate on the title but start buying and flipping them.

It sounds like #4 is particularly hard to find but that isn't really a surprise necessarily as sales numbers on minis continue to drop with successive releases. Since only two issues would have been out when #4 was solicited it got caught in that gap where the number of copies sold and thus printed by Marvel would have dropped. Unfortunately the series has been getting good reviews and instead of dropping in interest rose and #4 therefore became a hot commodity because of numbers.

This would be a guess based on the fact that Heinberg takes forever to get anything done, reviews that don't indicate anything major happening, except Iron Lad coming back, and knowing the typical buying behaviors of collectors and printing behaviors of companies.

Heinberg is a good writer but I will not touch anything he does because he cannot meet his obligations in a timely matter. It took him two plus years to get the 12 or 13 issues of Young Avengers out (it was supposed to be monthly and it took two years for him to get five of his six issues of Wonder Woman v3 out. He was so slow in getting his work done that the sixth part was put in the first annual. That shows complete and utter disrespect to the fans and shows that Marvel and DC editing is lacking. Product should come on time as advertised. There is nothing more I hate than product not coming out on time. It screws my budgeting up.

Thanks for the info. I was just curious because there's a few being bid on at over $20.00, and a BIN at $50.00. I have one, so I wanted to get some info so I can decide whether to get rid of it now or hold on to it for a bit. Thanks again.

#4 is actually pretty hard to find at all. I caught on to this series late and have been looking for #4 for months. More often than not there are no copies for sale on ebay, and the few that do come up are not cheap. It is the only issue of the series that I am still missing.

I actually just got another one, someone was selling the whole 9 issue set for $39.99 so I jumped on it. Figured people are paying that just for #4 so the rest are gravy.

99% of the books that come out now are going to take years to realize a profit. So any chance you have to make money, if that is goal, then why sit and wait? Lots of people sit on stuff thinking that if I wait I will make even more. The simple fact is that the sellers market window can disappear just as fast as it appears and then you either gets angry at someone else because you got significantly less for your copy that everyone else, you can sell the book, or you end out with more than one copy that you cannot sell and you may have even bought one at the inflated price and ended out in the red overall.

Back when the Death of Superman story arc came out I bought two of each part from my LCS at the time. Two weeks later when that issue was out on newsstands I bought all the copies from a string of convenience stores on my road home from work. I probably ended out with 10-16 copies of each part and five copies of the black back direct market #75. Two weeks later, well before the books hit their peaks, I had dealt of all but two copies of each part which I desired to keep for myself. I made something like $450 profit in cash and trade. Which is pretty damn good return for two weeks. Some of the stuff I got in trade is also worth much more and a few went down in value but are still worth decent coin (my Platinum #75's). The great thing is that despite prices falling way down on these issues I can still make profit on the 5 dupes I still have left (one part I now have only one copy left).

So the moral of my story is if trying to profit is part of your goal don't get greedy or you might end out with nothing. A whole lot of small profits can give you a big one. (Case in point I bought three Justice League of America original art pages for a grand total of $15 and out of the blue I sold one for $325! You just never know when your profit ship may come in so if you have the opportunity to make ANY profit take it.)

Thanks for the advice oxbladder. I very rarely sell stuff just because I love comics so much I feel sh!tty when i get rid of any, but lately I've just had a lot of good luck picking up books for cover that ended up skyrocketing in price, so I figured I'd get while the getting's good with convention season coming up. Figure it's a good way to cash in and pick up all the older key back issues I've always wanted. It can be a double-edged sword though. I got burned by selling my Ultimate Spider-Man collection too soon a bunch of years back... Cost myself at least a few hundred on that one. Same with TWD's early issues. I literally lost out on thousands because I sold them when the show first started instead of waiting. I get sick yo my stomach every time I go on ebay Smile

Yeah losing out sucks but at the same time you still made very good money and there was no guarantee that any of what you sold was going to go up even more. I only regret selling one book and that is not because if I waited until now I could have made over $16K.
