Wondering if anyone else has an collects or has an interest in Sgt Rock comic series 1977-1988 (302-422). I read Sgt Rock as a kid and I have started collecting this series again. I dig the Joe Kubert artwork, and the story lines are mostly real good as well. I am buying mostly for reading and secondly for collecting, but I try to buy fine or better books.

I am starting to have some doubles and would like to trade with anyone else who might want to trade to fill out their collection and I can add to my collection.

Lets make this the all Sgt Rock discussion thread and see what happens.

Thanks

Howdy, Bones. Welcome to the forum!

I'm a Sgt. Fury man myself (SEVERIN!), but I can certainly understand someone digging Kubert. I hope you're not the only one...

Howdy to you... seems like the war comics in general are heating up in popularity. Guess it may be all of the wars in the middle east in the last 10 years. I read Sgt Fury as a kid as well, but always liked the Rock better.

Pmad do you collect war comics in general or just a few titles. I would like collect more titles but at this time I don't want to go overboard on my spending $$$. I have to many other hobbies as well to support.

More later... Bones

Hmm... war books aren't really a big part of my collection; I'm working on Sgt Fury, like I mentioned, and I'll pick up moderns from Vertigo or Marvel Max when I see them; otherwise I don't think I have very many. I really liked the War Is Hell Max miniseries... and that's about it for the short version of my want list.

On the long version of my want list, though, I'm also looking for 50s war books when I can find a bargain, especially EC and Atlas titles, and DC books with stories by Russ Heath, Gene Colan or Bernie Krigstein. Now that I think about it, I'm kinda strongly interested in All-American Men Of War from around 1958-1963; I had several of those when I was a kid and I liked them a lot.

Does anyone have any good ideas for safely displaying a few comics. I would like to display a few of my favorite covers in my reading room.

Thanks, bones

Scan the covers and and print them out for whatever size frame you plan on putting them in. Also this way your not damaging the book. Or if you must have your book framed:

If you go to any custom framing store they sell some real clean frames and will make your books look very nice. I've recently got some original artwork framed and matted and am starting to swear by them. Make sure you get the UV protected glass.

electro... thanks for the suggestions, some good ones too. I like the scanning idea. I could even make my favorites poster sized.

Thanks, bones
