a little post to kick off an old favorite Hehe

won this today "best offer" from "artcomic" (bebe)...

i hemmed & hawed & wasn't at all sure of printing determination or pricing... but pulled the trigger Unsure
then i found this site...
http://www.sixtiesposters.com/fd89.htm

jim1968... any thoughts on value if a 1st as described?

my thoughts on this were two-fold (if it is a true 1st)... (1) flip it, or (2) as a project... perhaps have some moderate restoration performed (pressing; perhaps solvent cleaning, something to curb the foxing; perhaps the tear sealed) & make it a killer display piece. any thoughts?

I'd keep it preserved very nicely for 2 or 3 years and acquire more comix you love before investing in restoration.

Who knows, you might find a better candidate to spend your restoration dollars on in the next couple years.

It is a cool-looking cover, though. You wouldn't be wrong to fix it up.... Follow your heart, I guess.

Gotta love a cool Rick Griffin poster! I'm a HUGE fan of Quicksilver Messenger Service!
I've got the poster myself. In pefect shape they go for around $400 to $500 at shows.
This poster was only printed once, so what "sixtiesposters.duh" is talking about I dont know. (there may be a european bootleg?)
In the shape the one you bought "appears" to be in it would go for $40 to $60 due to the damage on the corners.
A great online site to look at (for the MOST you should ever pay for a poster is) www.rockposters.com it's the site for SF Rockposters. While there prices are sometimes up there at least you can have an idea of printings and what not!

My local used book store had these in their "new arrivals" box yesterday!
San Francisco Comic Book 1-5, mostly VG, $1.95 each
Cherry #1, first NM, $2.95
Cherry #2, first NM, $1.95
plus some Xmens and TMNTs cheap!
Don't forget to dig in the used bookstores!

Never got into collecting those. But I always love looking at them in San Diego, or one of the other big shows!

Hey

There were actually two printings of the FD-89 "Mornin Papa" print you have.

Here is a copied history of some sales of this print I took off of expressobeans.com,

It may give you a better idea of what yours is worth.

2008-03-21 $399.00 eBay
*** edge handling, some creasing bottom corners
2007-10-14 $159.50 eBay
*** VG a few light stains in the image area
2007-03-14 $384.67 norbyjake
    *** auction sale, top condition
2007-02-15 $500.00 norbyjake
    *** tiny corner flaw
2007-01-16 $162.50 eBay
*** tack hole in each corner, and minor paper age everywhere but the top inch of the poster (not counted)
2006-12-15 $45.00 eBay
*** tack holes each corner; rip top section; handling (not counted)
2006-01-06 $399.99 eBay
    *** minor handling left side
2005-09-24 $86.00 eBay
*** toning, edge wear, tape stains, multiple holes, top left corner missing (not counted)
2004-08-10 $191.38 eBay
2004-07-23 $125.00 eBay
2003-12-23 $203.50

eBay

 Try these poster sites:

http://www.wolfgangsvault.com/ (don't shop there, too expensive...but a good reference)

You're best shot is Eric King, whom I personally purchase through. I would also recommend ebay, once you've become familiar w/ Eric King's guide so that you don't end up purchaseing 2nd and 3rd printings.

http://www.wolfgangsvault.com/ is too expensive? That's the understatement of the century.

I have to wonder if they ever sell anything with their insane prices.
