Hake’s latest auction is loaded with incredible collectibles and memorabilia,  in all a total of 3,204 items are up for bid. There are over 200 collecting categories covering all aspects of Pop Culture and Americana. The closing dates are November 8-10 2011 , but all items are open for bidding now at www.hakes.com.

Comic books of all ages are well represented,  from  Victorian Age to modern day.  CGC highlights include Detective Comics #38 (first appearance of Robin) and Wonder Woman #1, both 3.0 unrestored copies and a pair of rare premium/promotional comics: The Lone Ranger Comics Ice Cream #1 from 1939 in 5.0 and Terry And The Pirates Libby’s Juice from 1941 in 7.0.

Other comics include Sun Fun Komiks #1 from 1939, Marvel Comics Multi-Bag unopened pack with four classic 1968 issues, Iron Man #1 from 1967, Amazing Spider-Man #129 featuring the first appearance of the Punisher, complete run of Iron Fist from 1975-1977 and runs of classic John Byrne X-Men from #101 to 131. Frank Miller’s Dark Knight items included signed first printings, French hardcover editions and a DC presentation piece (from the collection of Chip Kidd).

The original art section is truly exceptional with a wide variety of specialty pieces, comic book pages, illustration art, paintings, prototype art and more. Artists include Rafael DeSoto, Hannes Bok, Bill Ward, Charles Addams, Charles Schulz, Chuck Jones, Harvey Kurtzman, Kelly Freas, H.G. Peter, Carmine Infantino, Sheldon Moldoff, Bob Kane, John Bolton, Alex Ross, Joe Simon, George Tuska, Jack Kirby, Sal Buscema, Wendy Pini, Fred Hembeck, Vaughn Bode, Mark E. Rogers, Steve Rude and others.

Superhero collectibles in general are among the true highlights of this auction with exceptional items for  Superman, Batman, Captain Marvel, Spider-Man, Phantom, Green Hornet and many others. Items include: Supermen of America rare ring and patch, Batman 1966 Burry’s/Aurora giant store display sign, Hoppy the Marvel Bunny doll from 1946, Green Hornet Colorforms Signal Ray Mint on card from 1966, complete 1940s Justice Society of America club kit, Bowen signed statues and many other exceptional items.

Mego World’s Greatest Super-Hero action figures are represented by 20 examples from the collection of Benjamin Holcomb (author of the definitive Mego reference book) as well as those from  Morris Kotzer, founder and president of Parkdale Novelty, exclusive distributor of Mego toys in Canada in the 1970s which includes a prototype Superman 12”.
