Hake’s latest auction is loaded with incredible collectibles and memorabilia,  a total of 3,205 items are up for bid. There are over 200 collecting categories covering all aspects of Pop Culture and Americana. The closing dates are June 21-23, but all items are open for bidding on June 1, 2011 at www.hakes.com.

Comic books of all ages are well represented,  from  Platinum Age to modern day.  CGC highlights include an 8.5 Mile High copy of Sensation Comics #70, the Silver Age classic Amazing Spider-Man #50 also in 8.5, the incredibly popular Bronze Age  must-have, an 8.5 copy of The Incredible Hulk #181 featuring the first full appearance of Wolverine, and the recent Identity Crisis #4, but not the standard issue, this is the little known, recalled variant, and is a 9.4 signature series copy signed by Rags Morales. Not to be overlooked is one of the key Silver Age books, Amazing Spider-Man #1 which is graded as good condition. This is just a small sampling of the comic book related material which also includes classic strip reprint books of the 1920-1930s, BLB’s, pulps, eight pagers and much more.

The original art section is truly exceptional with a wide variety of specialty pieces, comic book covers and interior pages, illustration art, paintings, prototype art and more. Artists include Rafael DeSoto, Alex Schomburg, Gray Morrow, Greg & Tim Hildebrandt, Joe Shuster (Superman comic concept art), Chester Gould, Dan Barry (an unpublished Charlie Chan cover from 1959), Murphy Anderson, Bob Kane, Jerry Robinson, Sheldon Moldoff, Joe Simon, Dave Cockrum (a stunning specialty piece of Storm from 1975), Craig Flessel, Dorian Cleavanger, Sam Glanzman, Dick Ayers, Keith Pollard, Carl Barks, Alex Toth, Stan Asch (JSA specialty piece done for editor Sheldon Mayer) and others.

Superhero collectibles in general are among the true highlights of this auction with exceptional items for  Superman, Batman, Captain Marvel, Spider-Man, Phantom, Green Hornet and many others. Items include: both rarely seen versions of the Phantom figure by Multi Products,  Superman one of a kind Marx prototype “Krypton Rocket Gun”, Batman boxed Super-Micro Secret Radio from 1966, Marvel Comics very rare Marx wind-up train, Green Hornet full display box of flicker rings, 20 different Mego World’s Greatest Super-Hero action figures from the collection of Benjamin Holcomb (author of the definitive Mego reference book), and many other incredible items.

Another highlight is items from the archives of toy designer Mel Birnkrant, creator of the Colorforms Outer Space Men. This includes all seven first series carded figures as well as concept art, full “test shot” figure set and prototype of Colossus Rex.
