Comicspriceguide.com has been informed by Pedigree Comics’ CEO and President, Doug Schmell, that he just brokered the sale for the best existing copy of Detective Comics #62 for a record price of $32,000. The example, from the recently found Pinnacle Hill Collection, is the world’s only CGC certified 9.4 (Near-Mint) copy of this great issue. The previous sale of this same copy occurred in February, 2010 for $26,290.

Featuring the second ever Joker cover and published in April, 1942 (22 months after the Joker’s initial cover appearance in Detective Comics #40) , this is a very popular and sought-after issue and features a great Joker cover pose by the legendary Jerry Robinson (story by Batman co-creator Bill Finger). The copy in question is a gorgeous 9.4 with off-white pages, exact centering and cover alignment and exceptional eye appeal. It is truly the nicest known copy of Detective Comics #62 and most likely will always be. Only 28 total unrestored copies have passed through the CGC’s doors (with an additional two in restored condition) and the next highest certified one is in 9.0. The highest graded restored copy is only a 5.0.

The seller is a high grade Gold and Silver Age DC collector who concentrates on single highest CGC certified copies. The buyer is a private collector who focuses on high grade Golden Age Detective Comics. Both buyer and seller were extremely pleased with the sale.

Pedigree Comics is now accepting consignments for the upcoming July Grand Auction. Please go to the site for all consignment information or contact Doug Schmell at 561-422-1120 or 561-596-911 or by email at DougSchmell@pedigreecomics.com. Consignors maximize their profits selling in the Grand Auction, more so than on any other auction site or auction house. Pedigree does not charge a Buyers Premium, an amount that most bidders take into consideration when bidding in other sites (the bidders simply deduct that Buyers Premium amount from their final bidding price, meaning less money to the consignor and more to the auction site). The higher the value of your book(s) that sell in a Grand Auction, the more money you take home under Pedigree Comics’ Climbing Scale.

Prospective consignors can also upload their own scans, item information, descriptions and reserve amounts for the July Grand Auction by utilizing the Automated Consignment System. Just register onto the Web site, click "Customer Page" under "Your Account" and then click "Consignments" (under "Auctions"). You will then be able to enter the Pedigree Comics Consignment Management System and upload your own CGC certified books and magazines. They will receive an email notification automatically once you have uploaded the information and they will then review the information imparted for accuracy. The item(s) will then be added to the July Grand Auction to be bid on.
