Matt Nelson and Stephen Ritter have proudly announced the launch of their new Comic Book Pedigrees website today. This website provides fandom with a massive database of pedigreed images to peruse, starting with over 22,000 scans, and will continue to grow with your contributions. Any collector can upload scans of pedigree comics to the website using our very simple system. They estimate there are over 100,000 pedigreed comic books in the hobby today, leaving plenty more to be discovered.

The website currently acknowledges 63 different pedigreed collections, and will accept scans of either CGC or ungraded copies (as long as the ungraded copies exhibit some sort of markings to identify them). Every scan you will display your screen name and date next to it. They only ask that the scans submitted are as sharp as possible, and big enough to read the CGC label, or view identifiable markings. Only front cover scans are displayed on the site.

In addition to uploading scans, you can also utilize the buy/bid function for any pedigree book on the site. If the pedigree comic is for sale or auction on one of our authorized sale sites, simply paste the URL into the field and a buy/bid link will be added to that pedigree book. That link takes any viewer directly to the website page where the book is being offered for sale or auction. Buy/bid links will expire after 60 days. If you're interested in joining the authorized sale sites, visit this section of the website for more information.

Stephen and Matt are hard at work on the long-anticipated pedigree book, due out spring of 2012. You can read an update of their progrees on the site. Their idea for a community database of pedigree scans has been in gestation for years, but with the imminent arrival of the book next year and the discovery of three new pedigree collections this year, they felt now was a good time to launch the new website for the hobby. They hope that you enjoy perusing the pedigrees, and just as important, contribute any scans you yourself may have.

The website will continue to change and grow with your suggestions and contributions, so please provide them with any feedback you have, positive or negative. And look for them at the Big Apple New York show in two weeks, San Diego Comic-con, Chicago Wizard World, Baltimore and New York Comic-Con later this year. Happy uploading!
