Published in May 1984, with a known pritn run of 3,000, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is one of the most fun and noostalgic books of the Modern (Copper) era. It's publication by Mirage Publishings led to not only a run of black and white independent books, it also brought a lot of new readers into the comic hobby. It also brought TV and screen success for the turtles.
A copy of #1, CGC graded 7.5, recently brought $1,100 in a Buy It Now sale on eBay. According to the CGC Census, there are 41 other copies of the title at 7.5. Overall there are 297 copies universally graded and a total of 331 overall. This means over ten percent of the title’s first issue are in the Cencus. Which may be the record for the percentage of a title’s run that are officially graded.
