Less than a day after their 202nd Auction closed, Alex Winter, Consignment Director of Hake's Americana & Collectibles told ComicsPirceGuide.com that the "Hake’s auction #202 was the highest grossing auction in the company’s forty five years of history. The response to what was our largest catalog ever was overwhelming with a near record number of bidders involved with the 3,213 lot auction. Many record prices were set in a wide variety of categories including baseball, political, premiums, and music and of course, comic characters."
It is the variety of their offerings that brings so many out for a Hake’s Auction. From CGC Graded Comic Books to the oddest of collectible memoribilia (see the Sky King Ring below), a Hake's Auction holds something for everyone.
The Pennsylvania-based auction house has seen incredible growth in the past few years. They have aggressively gone after the collector market with ads in magazines such as Record Collector (an English publication with a massive base around the world) to cover their music consignments to ads in The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide to help bring in comic and comic-related collectables. From founder Ted Hake's presence on the History Channel as an occasional commentator to the publication of The Hake's Guide to Disney Collectibles, The Hake's Pop Culture Guide and other reference books, Hake's has firmly established a reputation as one of the most knowledgeable and well-served auction houses in the world.
"The results of the Hake's auction continue to prove that quality and rarity in the collectibles market are continuing to see strong demand from collectors and investors alike. The savvy buyer knows how truly difficult these types of items are to obtain," said Tom Gordon III, President of ComicsPriceGuide.com.
