A very fine condition copy of the rare Champion Comics ashcan realized $2,261.76 after obtaining 15 bids. The ashcan comic had off-white pages and featured stamps on the front cover indicating it was the Library of Congress copy.

Ashcans were prototype books produced by publishers to secure the trademark for a particular title and never were supposed to be offered for sale. At most, a handful of copies were produced for internal use and filing with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, hence their extreme level of rarity.

Currently, only two copies of the Champion Comics ashcan are known to exist.
