Pedigree Comics’ President and CEO, Doug Schmell, reports that his company has just received on consignment a fabulous group of CGC graded Silver Age Marvels and DC’s for the upcoming Grand Auction. Now only two weeks away, the auction is scheduled to begin at 8:00 p.m EST the night of Sunday, August 29th and last for ten (10) days, with the first half of books ending the afternoon of Wednesday, September 8th and the final half of books closing on Thursday, September 9th. The auction will feature over five hundred high grade CGC certified comics and magazines, many being the highest CGC certified according to the census, and it is shaping up to be one of the best online auctions for high-end, investment grade comic books EVER. Almost all of the books in the Grand Auction will be listed with no reserve and the minimum bid on every item is only $100.

The new group of Silver Age comics and keys is highlighted by a beautiful CGC 9.4 copy of Tales of Suspense #39, the second highest CGC graded example of this important issue. The book is perfectly centered with off-white pages and full cover gloss and is one of only 5 to make the coveted 9.4 plateau. Only two pedigrees have ever graded higher (the Pacific Coast and White mountain copies) in 9.6. Featuring the first appearance and origin of Iron Man, Tales of Suspense #39 has been a very sought after comic book for years, but it really skyrocketed into mega-key status over two years ago, with the release of the Iron Man motion picture starring Robert Downey, Jr., Terrence Howard, Jeff Bridges and Gwyneth Paltrow.  Since then, there have been two documented sales of 9.4 copies well over $1000,000, with a private sale of $118,000 in 2009 followed by a $114,990 sale by Pedigree Comics in their November, 2009 Grand Auction.

Other new Silver Age high grade books and keys in the auction include Amazing Spider-Man #1 CGC 9.0; Amazing Spider-Man #1 CGC 7.5; Amazing Spider-Man #3 CGC 9.2; Avengers #1 CGC 9.2; Avengers #4 CGC 9.2; Flash #105 CGC 8.0; Flash #150 CGC 9.6; Flash #165 CGC 9.6 (Boston); Flash #181 CGC 9.6 (Massachusetts); Flash #187 CGC 9.6 (Pacific Coast); Green Lantern #1 CGC 9.0;  Green Lantern #3 CGC 9.2; Green Lantern #9 CGC 9.4; Green Lantern #11 CGC 9.2; Incredible Hulk #1 CGC 7.0; Justice League of America #17 CGC 9.8; Tales of Suspense #52 CGC 9.4 and Tales to Astonish #39 CGC 9.0.
