According to Pedigree Comics’ CEO and President, Doug Schmell, the world’s first and only 9.8 Near-Mint/Mint copy of the coveted Amazing Spider-Man #40 headlines an incredible brand new group of freshly graded Silver and Bronze Age Marvels and DC’s that will be available in the company’s upcoming Grand Auction. The auction is scheduled to begin at 8:00 p.m. EST the night of Sunday, August 29th and last for ten (10) days, with the first half of books ending the afternoon of Wednesday, September 8th and the final half of books closing on Thursday, September 9th. The auction will feature several hundred high grade CGC certified comics and magazines, most in ultra high grade (CGC graded 9.4 and higher) and many being the highest CGC certified according to the census.
“The Amazing Spider-Man #40 is just a ridiculous copy”, states Schmell. “It is structurally perfect with white pages and it comes from an original owner collection out of Bogota, New Jersey, that was just consigned to us a few weeks ago. Only a few of the books have been graded so far, but the results have been spectacular. In addition to the Amazing Spider-Man #40, there is an Amazing Spider-Man #27 in 9.2; #28 in 8.5; #29 in 9.4; #30 in 9.0 and a gorgeous #39 in 9.4. All of these initially graded Amazing Spider-Mans will be in the auction. The remaining books from the collection will be CGC graded and available in future Grand Auctions. Amazing Spider-Man #40 is a key Silver Age book as it features the origin of the Green Goblin with a classic and vastly popular John Romita cover, his second one of the title following issue #39. Only 11 copies exist in 9.6. We anticipate the interest in this 9.8 copy to be rampant and estimate that it sells for over $30,000 in the auction”.
In addition to the Bogota books, there will be some beautiful new 1960s and 70s Marvels and DC’s that were just certified in the auction, including the best early Flash run in the world.
All of these new books will be scanned and added to the Grand Auction Preview next week. Just check out some of these brand new comics, most of which are the finest known examples:
