Famed fantasy painter/illustrator, Frank Frazetta, passed away this past Monday, May 10, 2010 after suffering a stroke the evening before. Frazetta, who was most famous for his artwork that graced the covers of fantasy novels in the '60s, set the bar for sword-and-sorcery genre artwork with his beautifully rendered heroic warriors and seductive vixens.

Frazetta's began his illustrious career working on the EC line of comics, assisting Al Capp on L’il Abner and later drawing the strip for several years, and working with Harvey Kurtzman on Little Annie Fanny. In the 1960s, he turned his attention to painting and added brilliance and depth to the covers of such pulp novels as Conan and Tarzan. His work influenced many creators and inspired a line of comic from Image Comics based on his classic paintings.
