A piece of original art by commercial artist Edgar Church dated 1920 sold for $443.98 on eBay after obtaining nine bids. The signed painting on board measured 7.25” x 14.5” and was in very fine condition.
Edgar Church is known to comic book collectors as the individual who originally assembled the Edgar Church/Mile High Golden Age comic book collection. The Church collection was the first original owner collection to ever be deemed a pedigree and was discovered in 1977 by Chuck Rozanski owner of Mile High Comics located in Denver, Colorado. The collection featured over 14,000 vintage comic books from the 1930s and later with the majority in high-grade condition.
The motivation for Mr. Church to acquire comic books was to use them as reference tools and inspiration for his artwork. He began his art career as a freelance artist around 1912 and then worked for Mountain Bell Phone Company from 1925-1953.
