The Hollywood Report's Heat Vision blog is reporting that an offer for the title role in Marvel Studios' upcoming film The First Avenger: Captain America has been made. Chris Evans, who previously played Johnny Storm/Human Torch in Fox's Fantastic Four franchise, may be the one to wield the shield as Captain America/Steve Rogers. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Evans offer includes staring in up to three Captain America films, as well as in the highly-anticipated film, The Avengers.

Evans, who will also star in two other comic book films this summer (as Jensen in the adaptation of the Vertigo series The Losers and as Lucas Lee in Edgar Wright's Scott Pilgrim Vs. The Universe), apparently has beaten out actors Michael Cassidy, Patrick Flueger, Scott Porter, Wilson Blethel, Mike Vogel, John Krasinski and Chace Crawford for the role. Although there has been no word from Evan's camp on the acceptance of the offer, fans can expect an announcement from the studio if and when the offer is accepted.
