According to a Los Angeles Times interview with producer Joel Silver, the new script for Warner Bros. film adaptation of Sgt. Rock will be set in the not-to-distant future. Abandoning the character's World War II roots and placing the hero on the battlefiled of a futuristic war may seem like a stretch for the studio that has not had much success in adapting DC's character's to film, but Silver is confident in the success of the story.
"It's a little bit in the future," Silver said. "As a war movie, it's not going to be 'where it's been,' it's going to be 'where it's going.' We didn't want to do Iraq, we didn't want to do a contemporary war. We wanted to do a sort of futuristic war. It's pretty strong. Chad St. John wrote the script and we've got Francis Lawrence involved in developing it with us. It's not a 'go' movie yet but I'm feeling good about it."
The lastest version of the script was turned in this week and a production date has yet to be set by Warner Bros.
