According to Peter Georgiou of IESB, director Sam Raimi is very interested in getting back into the director's chair and wants his next film to be the revamp of the 1930s pulp classic, The Shadow. After acquiring the movie rights to the character in 2006, Raimi has shown considerable interest in getting this film off the ground through Columbia Pictures and with Spider-man 4 officailly canceled, this may be his chance to put the fear back into the hearts of men. Raimi attempted to aquire the right to The Shadow back in the 1980s without much success and many feel that his Darkman fim was directly influenced by the pulp character.
The Shadow is one of the most famous and recognizable pulp characters of the 20th century, having been featured in numerours comic books, comic strips, television shows, video games and motion pictures since the 1930s. The character has not been featured in motion pictures in more the 15 years (the last being the 1994 film staring Alec Baldwin) and is in a prime position for a new blockbuster. Originally, when it was announced that Raimi has finally aquired the film rights to the character, it was speculated that film would debut in 2012, but no new information has been release by the studio to date.
