ComicsPriceGuide.com has learned that Pedigree Comics' upcoming Grand Auction will be a major comic book event and will feature many rare and sought after CGC graded books and magazines. The auction starts the night of Monday, January 18th and lasts for ten (10) days, ending on Thursday evening, January 28th. The company's 7th live online auction promises to be one of the best events ever for high end certified items, particularly Silver Age (1960's) Marvels and DC's.
You can now start viewing some of the books currently listed in the auction. Just go to their Web site (www.PedigreeComics.com), click on the "Grand Auctions" banner and then click on the "Auction Listings" menu at the top. There are over 200 comics already uploaded for you to look at with many more to come over the next two weeks. According to Pedigree's CEO, Doug Schmell: "We have received some incredible new books for the auction, including some spectacular high grade early Silver Age Marvels, and we are sure this is one auction you will not want to miss. There will be well over 300 CGC certified comics and magazines to choose from, almost every one in ultra high grade (9.4 and higher)". Here are some of the Grand Auction highlights:
Silver Age Marvels:
The feature book of the auction is the White Mountain copy of Fantastic Four #1 in CGC certified 9.2. It is only one of two copies in 9.2 and stands as the 6th best known example of this mega key issue. Other high grade Silver Age Marvels include a gorgeous 9.2 copy of X-Men #1; X-Men #2 in 9.4; X-Men #3 in 9.4 and X-Men #4 in 9.4. Another fabulous book in the auction is the highest graded copy of Daredevil #1, in CGC graded 9.6, representing the first time a Near-Mint Plus copy has ever been offered for sale. The second highest graded and only 9.2 copy of Tales to Astonish #27, featuring the first appearance of Ant-Man, will be included in the auction as well. For the Spider-Man collectors there is a gorgeous VF/NM (9.0) example of Amazing Spider-Man #1 with off-white to white pages and for you Avengers and Captain America fans, there will be a beautiful 9.4 copy of Avengers #4, the second highest CGC certified one. Bronze Age Marvels:
There are some unbelievable 1970's Marvel keys here, a few that are the best known copies. The frontliner is the basically perfect 9.8 with white pages copy of X-Men #94. Only the 4th copy to ever receive a NM/M from the CGC graders, this example is the only one to have white pages and, while the 3 other known 9.8's have some form of a miswrap, this one is exactly centered. Other highlights include the best known Giant-Size X-Men #1 (9.8 and white pages); Amazing Spider-Man #100 in 9.8 (top CGC copy); Amazing Spider-Man #129 in 9.8 (highest CGC rated); Incredible Hulk #180 9.8 with white pages (best known copy); Incredible Hulk #181 9.8 (highest graded); Marvel Spotlight 5 9.6; Amazing Adventures 11 9.6; Ghost Rider 1 9.6; Hero for Hire 1 9.6; Tomb of Dracula 1 9.6 and many more. There will also be a great group of 9.8 Tomb of Draculas, all of which are the highest graded copy. Issues include #9, #14, #15, #20, #21, #24, #30, #31, #34 and #35.
Pacific Coast Silver Age DC'S:
This amazing group features over 40 brand new books that have not been offered for sale before, including an amazing group of early Silver Age DC's from the Pacific Coast Collection. The Pacific Coast books (nearly 30 in total) include the absolute best early runs of Aquaman (#4 - #20), Atom (5, 7 and 8) and Metal Men (2, 5-12), with almost every book in 9.4, 9.6 and 9.8 condition. There are also a few non-Pacific Coast issues within the runs, including Aquman #3 in 9.8 (single highest certified), a killer copy of Showcase #34 in 9.4 and the best existing copy of Metal Men #1, a white-paged 9.6 copy from the Curator Collection. Almost every single book from these runs is the highest certified copy and over half are the single highest.
Mound City Collection:
This original owner collection out of St. Louis, Missouri, is one of the best early Silver Age (Marvel and DC) finds in years, Dubbed the Mound City Collection, the books (over 3,000 in total) were auctioned off in early November with some astounding results. Pedigree Comics hand-picked 34 books from the collection, all 9.2 and higher. The Mound City books include some ultra high grade early Silver Age Marvels and DC's from a myriad of titles including Adventure Comics, Detective Comics, Fantastic Four, Flash, Incredible Hulk, Journey Into Mystery, Justice League of America, Strange Tales, World's Finest Comics and more. Almost every Mound City book is in 9.4 and higher grade. Prospective consignors can also upload their own scans, item information, descriptions and reserve amounts for the Grand Auction by utilizing the Automated Consignment System. You will then be able to enter the Pedigree Comics Consignment Management System and upload your own CGC certified books and magazines. Pedigree Comics will receive an email automatically once you have uploaded the information and they will then review the information imparted for accuracy. The item(s) will then be added to the January Grand Auction to be bid on. You will be amazed how simple it is to utilize the Automated Consignment System.
