As a part of their upcoming Signature Comic and Comic Art Auction, which opens on November 20, 2009, Heritage Auction Galleries will be auctioning off original art from Living Legend, Joe Kubert. The art is part of his personal collection and features work from his seven-decade career including: cover art to Tarzan #243 (DC Comics 1975); cover art to Star Spangled War Stories #156 and #159 (DC Comics 1971); cover art to The Greatest 1950s Stories Ever Told (DC Comics 1990); original art from Star Spangled War Stories #137 (DC Comics 1968); and orginal art from Our Army at War #193 (DC Comics 1968).

Kubert began his comic art career in 1938 at the age of 11. Throughout his lengthy, seventy-year career, he has worked as an artist, writer, editor and educator, inspiring creators for generations. In 1976, Kubert founded the Joe Kubert School of Comic and Graphic Arts in Dover, New Jersey. Since its inception, hundreds of creators have attend the school to learn from masters of the comic industry, including his own two sons, Adam and Andy.

"Anyone who was a kid from the 1940s through the 1980s will recognize Kubert's distinctive style at a glance," said Jared Green, Vice President of Business Development at Heritage Auctions, in a recent press release. "He drew almost every Sgt. Rock story for decades and the cover to almost every DC war comic. Not only is he a favorite among fans, but when other comic book artists talk about their influences and whom they admire, his name is invariably mentioned."
