Metropolis Collectibles’ Vincent Zurzolo, Frank Cwiklik and Ben Smith returned from San Diego after having a good show, and have shared the following information with ComicsPriceGuide.com.
Metropolis reports that the hot “up-and-comer” movie-related vintage comics this summer were all titles related to Green Lantern and Avengers. Hot on the announcement that Ryan Reynolds is locked to play Hal Jordan in the 2011 slated film, copies of the Silver Age Green Lantern’s first appearance in Showcase #22 were quick to disappear from the convention floor, with Metropolis quickly selling out on four low-grade copies brought to the show. A lot of interest was also seen on Wonder Woman books, which included Metropolis’ sale of a Wonder Woman #1 CGC 6.0 for $7,000. Many convention attendees also “oohed and aaahed” over Metropolis’ proudly displayed D Copy pedigree of
SENSATION COMICS #1 CGC 8.0, still available, but unlikely to remain so for much longer.
As always, Amazing Spider-Man remained hot. Sales included Amazing Fantasy #15 FN- for $7,500, and Amazing Spider-Man #10 (CGC 9.4 for $5,675), #27 (CGC 9.4 for $2,720), #51 (CGC 9.4 for $1,135) and #129 (CGC 9.4 for $1,400).
Other Marvel Comics sold at the show included Avengers #57 CGC 9.2 for $1,088, Fantastic Four #12 CGC 7.5 for $3,800, Fantastic Four #112 CGC 9.4 (Tremont Copy) for $1,300, Incredible Hulk #181 CGC 9.2 for $1,950 and Journey Into Mystery #83 VG- for $1,100.
Timely’s Captain America Comics #59 F/VF sold for $1,700. Other Golden Age sales included All Top Comics #18 VF++ (Ohio Copy) for $1,000, Captain Marvel Adventures #3 F/VF for $1,339 and Daredevil Comics #11 FN+ for $1,300.
Cartoon and funny animal books garnered interest, and included the sales of Little Dot #1 CGC 9.0 for $10,500 and Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies #1 GD for $1,025/
Horror comics sold included two copies of Startling Terror Tales (1st Series) #11, with the VF/NM Mile High Copy sold for $7,400, and the CGC 9.2 River City copy for $6,882.
