Marvel Silver Surfer appearance surpasses expectations on ComicConnect.com.

The 1968’s Fantastic Four #72 is a hallowed issue among collectors both for its early Silver Surfer Stan Lee story, and classic cover and art by legendary penciler Jack Kirby & inker Joe Sinnott.  Predating even Silver Surfer #1, the story, entitled “Where Soars the Silver Surfer,” has always gotten a lot of love from fans.  This past weekend on ComicConnect.com, the highest graded copy on the CGC census got a lot more love, fetching 29 bids and hammering at a staggering $25,389.

“The previous highest, publicly recorded sale for a Fantastic Four #72 was $1,500 in 2008 for a 9.6 NM+ copy,” stated ComicConnect CEO, Stephen Fishler. “We anticipated this higher graded 9.8 NM/MT to sell for a premium, but $25,389 exceeded many expectations, including our own.”

“Prices on high-grade Marvel Silver Age continues to race up the charts, and clearly top collectors are willing to pay top dollar to obtain the best copies,” added ComicConnect COO, Vincent Zurzolo. “When it comes to this famous issue of Fantastic Four #72, there is no equivalent or better copy known to exist.”
