ComicConnect's February/March Event Auction is now officially open and accepting bids for the Golden and Silver Age book currently up for auction. Two of the headlining books feature in this auction are an unrestored copy of Action Comics #1 CGC certified 6.0 and an unrestored copy of Showcase #4 CGC certified 9.2. Each book helped welcome in the Golden and Silver Age of comics, respectively, and both are high-grade offerings.
"During the early and mid-1950s, the comic book industry was dying," said ComicConnect COO, Vincent Zurzolo, in recent press release. "Superheroes were not popular, and parents were being warned that comic books corrupted youth. Publishers were going out of business. It was the debut of the red-costumed Flash that reinvigorated interest, breathed new life into readership, and saved the media from extinction."
Other top books featured in this auction include: All Star Comics #3 CGC certified 6.0; All Winners Comics #1 CGC certified 8.0; Batman #1 CGC certified 7.5; Detective Comics #29 CGC certified 5.0; Human Torch (1940-1954) #2 CGC certified 9.4; Amazing Spider-man #1 CGC certified 8.5; Amazing Spider-man #14 CGC certified 9.6; Superman #1 CGC certified 1.0; Superman #2 CGC certified 9.0; and Whiz Comics #1 CGC certified 1.8. In addition, a rare complete run of pre-Batman Detective Comics (#1-26) is also up for auction.
According to the press release, pre-Batman issues of Detective Comics are very difficult to find in any grade, so when a complete run of issues #1 – 26 are split up and brought to market, it is a rare opportunity for serious collectors to acquire them.
Another noteworthy comic up in this auction is a copy of All Negro Comics #1 CGC certified 7.5. The first African-American created and published comic in the United States, this book is also the highest graded copy to come out of CGC. The book was groundbreaking at it's time of publish (1947) and features stories geared toward African-American children.
ComicConnect's current auction will close in three sessions on Friday, March 13, Saturday, March 14, and Sunday, March 15, 2009 between 7-11 pm, EST. For more information on the rest of the books up for auction or to place a bid, please visit www.comicconnect.com.
