A special item recently added to the ComicLink January Focused Auction Preview is an uncommon CGC 7.5 example of Fantastic Four #1. Stan Lee and Jack Kirby launched the Silver Age of Marvel Comics with this momentous issue. The Fantastic Four's 1st appearance and origin, published a year prior to the first appearance of Spider-Man in Amazing Fantasy #15, was the foundation upon which the Marvel Universe would grow, and set the standard for realistic comic book characters. The Fantastic Four, along with the X-men and the Avengers, has remained one of Marvel's most popular superhero teams from the time of its introduction to the present day. Now a worldwide movie franchise, the future of the title and the characters within appears extremely bright.

In CGC 7.5, this issue is seldom seen. The offered example also presents very strongly for the assigned grade with a bright, clean cover image and tight spine structure. At the time of its production in 1961, no one knew how successful this issue would become, or thought that it would be worth keeping for monetary gain. Not surprisingly, Fantastic Four #1 is, along with the other early issue numbers within this title, one of the most difficult key Silver Age Marvels to find in the very fine range and higher. With prices rising sharply on quality examples of significant Marvel keys it is becoming even harder to acquire one in the offered condition. In our prior Featured Auction, which closed in November, a copy of Fantastic Four #1 CGC certified 8.5 sold for $69,000.

ComicLink is still taking  seller consignments for the January Focused Auction, as well as their upcoming February/March Featured Auction which will feature Golden, Silver, and Bronze Age Comic Books (and some choice Copper/Moderns), as well as Original Comic Art.  To participate in the auction as a seller, simply contact Josh Nathanson or Douglas Gillock at 718-246-0300 or email your potential auction list or questions to buysell@comiclink.com.
